I think it's weird no one remembers those movies. I mean they weren't masterpieces, but they were at least as good as the average FIM episode, and that's a lot better than most straight to DVD content.
That doesn't mean Bobsheaux won't review it. Just because Critic reviewed it doesn't mean its permanently off limits. That's like saying once Pewdiepie plays a game, no other lets player can play it.
This film wasted the talents of: -Debi Derryberry -Cheech Marin -Phyllis Dyller -Tress MacNeille -Jim Belushi -JIM CUMMINGS The lone fact they wasted the amazing talent of Jim Cummings already makes this film an atrocity.

Now you know why VeggieTales never used arms and legs for their characters (with some exceptions) It's funny in hindsight, since Cam Clarke from this movie later worked on the second VeggieTales movie years later, and Tress MacNeille is now in the Netflix series.

I saw this commercial all the time on some VHS tape. Actually, despite the bad animation and unfunny jokes, I thought it at least looked like an over the top, goofy war between rats and food, so that got me a little excited. Shame when I saw the actual movie it was complete shit.
Why do so many people try to modernize classic and timeless musicals? All it does is date them badly. Also isn't it supposed to be at the end of the story where the Nutcracker is revealed to be the missing prince? It's been a long time since I've seen a proper version of this story.
Fun fact: Phyllis Diller was in the Nutcracker Prince, a better animated version of the Nutcracker that came out eight years prior, so why did she sign on to this movie?
Why indeed, even in that ending it sounds like she was actually begging for actual attention, and the directors decided, "We'll use this to humiliate her."

I actually have this recorded on VHS! One of my favorite guilty pleasures around Christmastime. ^_^ And trust me, "The Nutcracker: The Untold Story" is WAY worse than this. And thank you Bobsheaux for another satisfying year of reviews. Mind I suggest "Alice Month" before "Through the Looking Glass" comes out? :)

Drosselmeyer is supposed to be Marie's godfather not uncle. Aww, you can't ask me to hate something with Phyllis Diller in it....Even if her character does look like a fetus with Acephaly. (Don't look that up). I take it back, this was awful. It would have taken Christopher Walken & Vincent Price combined to save this movie.

We would always stop the tape after A Charlie Brown Christmas and didn't even know there were two other Christmas specials recorded on it, which were this one and and one other Christmas special who's name I forgot (I only remember was that it was stop-motion and the main character was a teddy bear). I can see why we forgot it was recorded on there though, cause this was... something, that's for certain. Is it just me or does the Nutcracker always get the strangest adaptations? I mean, between this and "The Nutcracker: The Untold Story" I don't know which one is stranger.
When I was in middle school or high school (can't remember which), my dad turned on the TV and this movie was playing, although I didn't figure out what it was until about 2 years ago. The part that was playing was the weird song about God. I remember thinking it was a Barbie movie
The fruit in this movie remind me of the bushwullies from G1 My Little Pony. Except the bushwullies were actually somewhat cute and charming. They were also smarter, too.
Few things. First, it's not ripoff of Tchaikovsky ballet, its film adaptation. Second, are movie established that it happens in Russia? Cause in original version of ballet and in original fairytale it was probably somewhere in Germany or Austria - in that area of Europe anyway.

You know what would have been better reason for them to see the Sugarplum fairy? If Marie fell off the ladder, and landed on the star. Making it break, and releasing the Christmas magic. I think how it works is that VAs are offered a role before even getting to see what they're getting themselves into, hence why there are so many VAs that have parts in so many bad movies/TV shows.

6:16 As someone who has watched all 5 seasons of MLP FiM, I can safely say that that is not the case. MLP FiM has done songs that ranged from classical to rock to barbershop quartet and others. Hell, the season 5 opener had a song inspired by *WW2 PROPAGANDA FILM*! So when MLP FiM takes inspiration for a song, the staff knows what they're doing.

Cam Clarke and Jim Cummings, why are you in this...?
I'm not a voice actor by any stretch of the imagination, but why is it that VAs with respectable voice work under their belt end up doing roles for bad movies? Obviously it's their livelihood and they gotta eat like everyone else; but like more often than not you'll see Laura Bailey and David Lodge in shit like "The Swan Princess Christmas/A Royal Family Tale", or even more infamously Jim Cummings as Greaser Greg and Nat Nerd in the Garbage Pail Kids movie.
Is it just like the equivalent of a bad day at work for, say, an office worker? I'm genuinely curious about this...
+MrJustinArt Indeed, I spare a thought for Jeff Bennett (the guy who voiced Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Dad and the Summerween Trickster amongst other well known roles) who was also in this movie. I think how it works is that VAs are offered a role before even getting to see what they're getting themselves into, hence why there are so many VAs that have parts in so many bad movies/TV shows.
Laevateinn102 Yeah, that makes sense. I don't think Jim Cummings would've starred in Garbage Pail Kids if he knew anything about it prior to doing voices. I actually heard he regrets being in it and that it was the worst experience he was ever put in; praise all that is holy he was uncredited...
And Laura Bailey wasn't even credited by her real name in the two 'recent' Swan Princess movies; she went by 'Elle Deets'. Probably pulled an "Alan Smithee" when she saw the finished product.

this is one of those movies that you swear were just a fever dream you had when you were a kid.
I found an ad for this movie on an old GhostBusters VHS and man its funy how much they were really trying to hype it up as the next big Christmas movie.
I remember seeing the trailer for this movie all the time whenever my sister and I would watch the movie Milo and Otis when we were kids. It's probably for the better that we didn't see The Nuttiest Nutcracker.

Holy crap, it _still exists._ This was actually my _first exposure_ to the Nutcracker Suite story (outside of the music) and wow, was it weird. I actually only saw it while it was being played in a department store while we were Christmas Shopping. And oddly enough, I saw _this_ before I saw Veggietales.
What I find bizarre is how much of this I actually remembered - the Big-Cheese Song, the stupid "Shoes Untied" joke...

6:16 As someone who has watched all 5 seasons of MLP FiM, I can safely say that that is not the case. MLP FiM has done songs that ranged from classical to rock to barbershop quartet and others. Hell, the season 5 opener had a song inspired by *WW2 PROPAGANDA FILM*! So when MLP FiM takes inspiration for a song, the staff knows what they're doing.

This movie came out the same year as Tarzan, Toy Story 2, The Iron Giant, Pokémon the Movie 2000, Fantasia 2000, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
Edit: Pokèmon 2000 was released in Japan in 1999 while America got it in 2000. Pokèmon the First Movie came out in Japan in 1998 and then America got it in 1999.
My only memory of this movie was seeing a trailer for this on my VHS copy of Muppets From Space
