Hey Everyone! As mentioned in the video, this is video is both a celebration of our channel and our wedding which we are away for while this video goes out so we hope you enjoy it!
We would really appreciate if you haven't subscribed and are a regular watcher or just enjoyed this to consider subscribing as it would really help us! 75% of viewers aren't subbed, and many of those are returning viewers. For those who are already, big thank you!
Congrats on getting married!
Cheers!
"That's how numbers work." Probably the best line in the video. =)
I think for me and my game groups (now in our thirties !) the games that stand the test of time are the ones that give more than they take. “Old school”, elegant titles like El Grande, Chinatown, Acquire etc. that have a simple rule set but allow for a deep and interactive decision space.
A lot of the modern Euros you mention (and that are popular on BGG) have left my collection. Too many layers, too long etc.
Nothing wrong with that. We recently played Through The Desert for the first time and that was a great experience! But, we also love mean, long, tough euros. There's something thrilling about the struggle.
Congrats, you two! Have loved watching your content and keeping up with the dramatic list reveals ;)
Thank you so much!
Congrats! Thanks for the great video
Thanks! You're most welcome!
Great video! I'm looking forward to the upcoming Res Arcana expansion!
There's another one???
Thanks for sharing. Great lists!
Some of my favs - Oathsworn, MC:LCG, Ruins of Arnak, Castles of Burgundy, Dwellings of Eldervale, Agemonia,
Really enjoyed Oathsworn and want to get back into it! Love Burgundy too!
Fun video to watch. Great that you share so many top games. Even if a game is #8 on one list and #2 on the other’s, means that you really enjoy playing together. Have fun in 2024! Cult of the new 😉
Glad it was fun to watch! We do have a great time playing together!
Discovered the channel recently and really liked all your videos! Awesome top 10 as well, gonna give another chance to Res Arcana seeing it so high on the list!
Also, have you guys tried Dwellings of Eldervale? I'm pretty sure you will love it!
That might be a bit more personal love so don't expect too much! But if you love efficency games, it's the one. Have not tried it, very interested to. Mainly didn't because of limited stock.
Congrats on your wedding! Enjoy yourselves
Thank you!!
Caper Europe is really good thanks shouting that one, otherwise I would not have got to it
Haha it's worth talking about it in every video then
Great list. Really enjoy you two. Can’t stay here long, have to go buy John company
Smart decision. John Company > Board Of It
Congratz on getting married! All the best! Also, great list :)
Thanks! We like to think so😇
Great list guys. Some of my top games are Ankh, El Grande, For Glory, Pax Porfiriana, Vindication, and Keyforge.
Ankh is terrific! We're just starting to get into El Grande so watch that space!
@@BoardOfItReviews Oh and grats on getting married.
@@BoardOfItReviews Also given you are Caper Europe fans - try The Battle of Versailles, I think you'll like it a lot
Congratulations on getting married! 🍾
A little surprised that Imperium: Horizons wasn’t on anyone’s top 20 😅
It was...and then it wasn't! It was close. I think the fact that is such a solo experience and a long game hurt it in the final ranking.
Have heard mixed reviews on Root. It looks so pretty and the asemetrical factions sound fun.
I think it's only for certain types of people. Completely get why some wouldn't like it, but there is also a reason it's in the top 50 of all time on BGG!
Congratulations both!
Thank you!
Both of you like Barrage and Brass, have you had the chance to try out Nucleum yet?
Yes we have! We even have a review of it! Looking forward to trying the expansion.
Thinking of playing scythe at 6P this coming week. Have you played at this player count? What are your thoughts ? And advice too haha
I think we've only gone up to 5. Some people will prefer it because of more interaction. For us, I think we like it better at 3 or 4 as the turns are so rapid with experienced players...we mainly don't like it at higher because how it slows the game down. That said, we did do a 5 player campaign and it was excellent!
Thank you for the great content. I just got Dune war for Arrakis, but have not played yet. Ordered that one because the consensus seems to be it best. Any thoughts? Also, I want to buy Voidfall, but the weight scares me. Is is as heavy as the rating of 4.6? I own Anachrony, Kanban, Feast for Odin, and Ark Nova. Is it heavier than those games? Thanks again.
The thing about Voidfall is there a lot of up front work (rulebook, setup, iconography), but once you know how to play to goes very smooth. It ends up being fairly intuitive and has terrific indexes for references.
Congratulations on getting married!
Here is my top 10 in no particular order:
GWT New Zealand
Scythe
Dune Imperium
Spirit Island
Age of Innovation
Ark Nova
Wyrmspan
Nemesis Lockdown
Cascadia
Tainted Grail
That is a really strong top 10!
Nice work guys I love both of the list. All of these games are right in my wheelhouse. A few more to check out them. So thank you very much hi just a bit of constructive criticism. I reckon you could zoom the camera in a bit I’d like to see more of you guys and less of the plant on the left and down the hall to the right.
Thank you!
Disappointed that Articulate didn't make Tali's list this year. By far my fav shock pick last time
Truly sorry to disappoint on this one 😔 - Tallie
thanks😊
Boardlandia basket open, defibrillator ready for the wallet, here goes nothing
Sorry to hear that you had to remortgage your house 😘
Congratulations on your wedding!!! 😀😀😀
Thank you!
Congrats🎉
Cheers
I’m interested by hearing that you played Root a lot at two players, as it’s a game I’ve long wanted to play but was under the impression it was awful without four players. Is a certain expansion “necessary” to make it work at two? Your inclusion of Eclipse as a great two player game in an older video made me pull the trigger on that, happily. So bummed you don’t still love Scythe at two. I love it at any player count. Finally, I’ll recommend Huang (formerly published as Yellow and Yangtze)-not a heavy game, but deeply interactive and mean. It shot into my top 5 games immediately after buying this newer version.
Not Board of It, but: Yes, an expansion would be recommended.
The main problems with Root at 2 are that it relies on players to balance out faction imbalance (which is hard when it's just you and your opponent), and that Root requires "map presence" to function well (stuff on the board is required to have interaction).
Marauders sought to resolve that. As part of Marauders, there are two additional "lots of stuff on the map" factions, which add to the base game's Cats and Eyrie. Additionally, Hirelings (which are also available in their own packages) are now available to add map presence, but also to add a catch-up mechanism - they are the player balancing for a 2p game.
As a note: Certain factions, generally called Insurgent factions, still won't work well. Root requires a map presence and certain factions like the Vagabond simply don't have the "stuff on the map" necessary to keep the game running smoothly against a single opponent.
Also, with Root Digital available, I would strongly suggest trying that to see if you even like the mechanisms. Root is very confrontational and very mechanical (do exactly what the rulebook says, no interpretation of rules should be necessary). There are plenty of people who Root is not for, but the digital version is inexpensive enough to get a feel for it against the AI.
Yea you do ideally want an expansion. We usually play with the clockwork expansions, they add in automated opponents to fill the board up that work real well. Alternatively, the Mauraders expansion has some factions great with two players for variety.
If I were to get into Root, mainly as a 2p, how would you recommend I approach the gameplay…with an automa faction? Would you recommend the clockwork expansion if we’re mostly 2p gamers? Thank you!
Yea defo would recommend the clockwork, although it is quite expensive for what you get. There are print and play options available though! Otherwise the Mauraders expansion is good for two players.
Congratulations for the wedding 🎉🎉 i am a suscribed viewer 😊
Thanks so much!
What I learned was the group makes the game fun.
Because no-one asked my favorites are
Decrypto
Paleo
Rainbow ito
Euchre
Cribbage
Codenames
When I Dream
Shipwreck arcana
Pictomania
Fake artist goes to NY
Decrypto for the win!
Some crossovers:
1. Marvel Champions
2. Cloudspire
3. Voidfall
4. Slay the Spire
5. Final Girl
6. Pax Pamir
Love Final Girl!
Damn, I wish I was in your neighborhood and could prevent this Scythe downfall! 😁
So do we!
Some of these games are super expensive. Like i cant own them ever expensive. Sound amazing tho. Almost like Lego expensive, and thats a lot.
I would own so much Lego if I was a millionaire.
Where does Stationfall rank guys?
It's a tough one, haven't played it enough since reviewing to have it high. Really like it, but hard proposition to introduce to people or find the right group for.
Love the list, but could do with higher quality video 😅
In what way?
What happened to 9 3/4's?
We've left behind our Harry Potter phase
@@BoardOfItReviews May we start a new one and call it 8 3/4's? lol Just having fun 🤣
Congrats on your legal documents! :)
I do love GWT! My game group has no interest in John Company due to the theme.
I would be hard-pressed to make a top ten list, but a couple of my favorite board gaming experiences have been Clank Legacy and Mechs vs Minions. A couple non-campaign favorites include The Search for Planet X, Quacks, and Orleans.
This video needs more doggos :D
Thank you! We love legal documents!
Some great games there, I think we need to eventually try one of the clank games.
@@BoardOfItReviews Regular Clank actually didn’t impress me that much. Granted, I haven’t played Clank Catacombs. But Clank Legacy was just fun and silly! :D
How did you lose an entire group? :)
They moved away! Internationals tend to do that unfortunately.
Bored of your jobs, but not of games!
