That poor little thing was so scared it couldn't even eat. Thank you for setting it free and not hurting it. Opossums are omnivorous and beneficial to humans because unlike raccoons who may be much cuter, possums cause very little damage and they consume undesirable insects, snails, and slugs. They keep neighborhoods clear of unwanted pests like cockroaches, rats, and mice too 🙂

How would you like that done to you.
They are harmless and very much scared of humans and dogs. They are just trying to live their life. Help them but don't hurt them.

Opossums are actually very good creatures. They keep your yard free of pests like ticks! They look scary, but opossums are some of the most docile creatures out there. Seriously. You're better off having a possum in your yard, than a rat, mouse, skunk, or raccoon, or what have you.
If you find one in your bin, it's because you're not putting away your trash properly. They're opportunistic! Bag ALL your trash before you put it into your bin. Preferably twice.
Trust me. Where I live, we don't even have raccoons or possums, but we do this too to avoid the mice and rats, and it works.
Either way, possums aren't pests. They're friends! (unlike some of the other animals out there)
Edit: When an opossum bare its teeth, 99% of the time it's bluf. They're even more scared than you are. All you need to do is leave it be, or, if it's in a difficult spot, move it with some thick gloves (just IN CASE they may bite, which they rarely do, but still)

No,we don't treat animals as the government treats citizens 😉
