      I really enjoy the older army/ military instructional videos. Why aren’t they used more today? So simple, yet so effective lol.

    Great video to learn about a submersible pump, currently I'm studying in Petroleum amd Mining Engineering, so this helped me a lot to learn about the topic of fluid mechanics.Thank you!

    If you're going to design it to go down into a pipe, or wish to pump to an almost empty state, have the water inlet below the motor. Pass the fluid around the motor to cool the windings as it pumps, which allows for much more fluid evacuation from a vertical drop.

    • @edwinshelly993
      @edwinshelly993 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To make this effective they need to have two inlets one at the bottom and other as it is now. That increases cost but may work out.. Not sure..

      @@edwinshelly993 dirty water will corrode the copper wires. usually ro water is filled in the motor and then sealed.

    • @ROVA00
      @ROVA00 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would have to increase the diameter of the casing or the pump in order to allow for water to flow around the motor. Most well casings only leave milimeters of space between it and the pump diameter. You would also increase the chance of getting water inside the motor shaft seal if you're pumping high pressure water directly into it.

    We use them in farming in Turkey, in my region they usually work in a depth of 100 meters. If a submersible pump fails it takes like 4 hours to pull out all the pipes and finally the pump. Also they are so expensive to run and to maintain but we have no surface water supply so we have to use submersible pumps in 100m deep wells

    While not articulated in the video, these pumps are used by most all well pump scenarios. In fact, most rural civilians would be hard-pressed to find an alternate potable water pumping solution, as well pumps tend to be the most affordable in most situations.

    Large multistage submersible pumps use the fluid being pumped as the coolant by having the inlet at the bottom of the assembly, and then passing the pumped fluid around the motor jacket. The motor may be located either below or above the impeller section, but is most frequently located below it..

    Wait, I'm confused. At 2:52 you say that water is pushed instead of pulled, but isn't this always the case? A high pressure fluid wants to expand, and it does so by moving towards low pressure zones, right?

    • @Robbedem
      @Robbedem 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      the reason given does indeed lack a bit of depth.
      I think what they mean is that if the submersible pump is installed deep enough into the liquid, the liquid will push itself into the pump.
      To achieve the same with normal pumps, it would have to be installed at the same height as the submersible pump which is in most cases not possible (think of the oil wells).
      If it is possible, you still have the issue of priming if the pipe goes above the liquid.

      @Peytona 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LegendLength perhaps this is what is meant, yes. Odd though as cavitation occurs primarily due to insufficient NPSH so can happen irregardless of the position of the pump relative to the pipe. Having it positioned where it is does minimise pressure drop and flow resistance upstream of the pump though...
