i just finished building a 1S 2.5" (65mm) "long range" quad with 18650 battery tray.
in the first test flights i've gotten 15 minutes + easy flight times (cruising around in my house) with landing voltage at 2.7V.
at first i used HQ T65 biblade props, which made me land around 3.2 volts since the throttle had to near 95% to just stay in the air.
i swapped them out for GemFan flash 2540 triblade props and i could fly until 2.5V until i lost enough thrust to stay in the air.
my nano LR isn't even build to be as light as possible, it has an 400MW vtx with build in dvr ( to get some nice recordings), full carbon fiber frame, metal screws, a foxeer lollipop antenna and a beeper on board..
at 400mw power i will loose roughly half a minute of flighttime compared to 25mw, and the step up regulator struggles and gives a lot of interference (horizontal lines through the fpv feed)
parts used (for those who want to build one and on the "cheap")
-18650 battery tray with high current gold contacts (which is JB welded to the top plate of the frame)
    -sony VTC6 3000mah 10C 18650 cell
    -happy model EX1203 11000KV motors
-multi function step up boost module set at 8V (for VTX and reciever)
-namelessRC D400 400MW vtx with DVR module
    -caddx ant 1200tvl nano camera
-Play F4 whoop AIO flight controller
    - SkyStars StarLord micro toothpick freestyle 2.5 inch frame
this little quad sits great next to my 4" 4S long range digital airunit quad and my 3" 4S long range vista quad.

Micro long-range drones are a big interest to me. I came across a project that uses a Raspberry Pi for smart functions like elevation hold and planned flights. There's only a couple of videos on it, but they boasted a 20+ minute runtime which is amazing. Unfortunately the project seems rather dead and there hasn't been any updates in over a year. I may have to give one of these a shot, though I'll likely start with a small BNF drone as that seems to be a cheaper route to get everything I need.

Thanks for your building stories. That was the content which brought me to the hobby. Remember the days with a naze32 and all its problems ;). Now yt is full of BNF reviews and not builds.

Great build! Would like to see a drone with 2 x 18650 batteries and some form of waypoint flights.

Wow, great project! I wonder, is it's possible to make it somehow collapsible, so it took even less space? Would be neat

Something about snapping in that 18650 is so appealing

Great design, an idea for making the frame stiffer and not adding to much weight would be to make slots for 0,5mm CF rods and glue these in the center or similar. Should add some stiffness and improve flight performance

Will build one for sure! What motors do you thing will be good for 2s 18650? To carry digital. Sounds like a completely new project I know.

I would honestly be interested in a 2s 18650 or 2s 21700 4" version also using the snap-in battery system.

This is pretty awesome, love the design and idea!
Got to say, it would be interesting to see if a 2s version could maybe be able to do better freestyle. :)
