  • I have been working on sewing myself a pair of high waist pleated trousers inspired by those vintage but modern pants all the boys on Instagram are wearing.
    I made a few samples over the last few weeks ( • Sewing Pleated Pants. ... ) and now it was time to sew the final version.
    The main focus was figuring out how to slim down the fit for a more modern cut and what that means for the pleat. I ended up going went with a shallow single pleat.

    Bring back men's high waisted pants - If you're a long lean type of bloke (waist smaller than hips), high waisted pants are so much more stylish and comfortable.

    You do very nice work. You were saying that the buttonhole tab where it is rounded did not come out as nice as you would like. I would suggest instead of just clipping into the seam allowance on the semicircular part, notch triangles out of the seam allowance. As a general rule I always clips concave curves and notch convex curves. I hope this helps.

    Yesss! You did it, it looks great!
    I think you should add a back seam to the waistband, and sew it together with the back inseam (I dunno whats called in english, the butt seam you know) with large stitches and keep bigger seam allowances, perhaps two rows of stitch for strength, but so you adjust it as the last thing, and to make sure that it fit snuggly. So if you find you lost weight, or gained, you can just unpick this part, refit it, and sew it.

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good tip. It seems so simple, but having extra seam allowance is a solid idea. I want these to last a while so that would allow for it.
      I agree, they are a little loose in the lower back. I may at some point go back in and update them, I just need a little break for now ;)

    Really enjoyed watching that & nice pair of trousers - you are clearly very talented. The trousers don’t fall straight down to the ground, as a well tailored pair of trousers should. They instead follow the curves in your legs, which would ideally not be the case. I think that small change (cutting the trousers to drape on you) would amplify the aesthetic of the trousers - would be very elegant.

    Hi there :) i really enjoyed this video! I think you could avoid the crooked pleat problem by adjusting the width of the pant at crotch level. Folds pointing towards the crotch indicate that they are too tight there. Pants are super duper hard to get right fit wise. I think I’m on mock up 4 or 5 by now! Found ‘The Complete Photo Guide to Perfect Fitting’ by Sarah Veblen (e-book) as well as youtuber Alexandra Morgan really helpful when trying to demystify my fit issues so highly recommend these :) Frida

      For the bleu ones you seem to have used woven but for the green ones it seemd to be a twill

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find that twills are often heavier and good for things like pants and coats. I find knits often have stretch so they are good for tops and things. However, I am not very knowledgeable in this subject. My strategy is to go to fabric shops and simply feel the fabrics to see what I want. Touching is the best way to understand.

    May I ask, why did you made the waistband curved like that? Is it because of the high waist? I'm learning to sew so I'm a bit curious.

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. If I cut the waist band as a straight strap, it will stand up perfectly vertical. I have a slender waist and so curving the waistband helps to taper it inwards at the top. I hope that make sense.

    • @brunohenriquemoro6830
      @brunohenriquemoro6830 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Cornelius Quiring I see, it does actually, and since this waist band you made is higher than the usual it also needs to compensate the curve of the body. I asked because my teacher instructed me to use curved waist bands on female garments, but is smart to think about the details and experiment with the techniques to get a nice fit.

    hey i was wondering what kind of fabric did you use to make these?

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got it from my local fabric store so I I'm not certain, but it feels to be some sort of a wool / cotton blend.

    • @CorneliusQuiring

      I started off by downloading a pants pattern off of freesewing.org. I then tailored said pattern until it fit well. Next, to make these pants, I simply raised the waist to be high-waisted and added the single pleat to pull them in around my torso.
      I hope that helps :)

    Hey man, nice job on the pants :) What kind of fabric are you using for the navy pant?

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well thank you. I was told the fabric was a cotton, but I'm getting the sense it may be a cotton / wool blend of some sort because they have this slight itch to them, even after I washed the fabric. Honestly, I picked it for the colour :)

    • @AideninBroland
      @AideninBroland 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CorneliusQuiring yah it looks like wool suiting to me. I was thinking the single pleat in the front might look a bit like tactical pants but the cut and belt changed the design enough. you could always line the pants with a bit of woven cotton or linen to take some of the itch away from the really annoying areas.

    • @CorneliusQuiring
      @CorneliusQuiring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have considered putting in a lining. But I also tend to wear long johns in the fall / winter and so perhaps these will be winter pants. We'll see.
