Cornelius, just spent 2 days in your intimate company following your tutorials frame by frame to create a pattern and make my own pair of trousers. Just wanted to say thank you, you are just a brilliant teacher.
Cornelius, I just happened on your channel. As a male trying to learn how to sew his own clothes, it’s been difficult to find a good channel. Yours fills that niche. Thank you so much. I think your content is fantastic and am following along as I sew my own trousers. Looking forward to more projects. Rgds, Scotty.
@@CorneliusQuiring good Friday evening to you your video was interesting to me beacuse I am new at sewing and I do like to learn more about putting together a pair of pants 👖 the pattern you have made where would I purchase the pieces you used to make the curves on the pant leg do these come with other parts and my I ask what would the name for these items bye 👋 from 🇨🇦 #YSW
You should be able to buy it at any fabric and sewing store or even art supplies store. It's called a French curve. Alternatively you can always get online too. Good luck in your sewing!

Yes, you can get all different shapes and sizes. There are "French curve kits" that gi e you all the option. If you go to Google images and search you will see. Good luck!
As a fellow male sewer starting to make his own clothing I love your tutorials. I'm dyspraxic and the trouble with a lot of tutorials online is that they go too quickly with the steps/instructions for my brain to properly process and don't show clearly enough what they are doing so that I can understand it fully. Your tutorials are precise, clear, visable and most importantly go at a pace of which I can easily understand what you are doing. Thank you very much and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do next. (Ps do please make your own sewing/tailoring book)
Well I am happy to hear you're getting value out of my videos. I am happy to they make sense and work for you. I appreciate you telling me and good luck with your makes. It's great to hear from fellow sewists.
its 2 am and I have no clue why I watched this entire video, but now I'm so invested I think I'm actually going to make myself a pair of pants. This is a seriously amazing channel.
One and only " on point, without unnecessary stuffs added in and without selfishly hidden steps" video I've ever seen. Subbed, a nice pair of pants coming up with your guide from scratch, from pattern making to sewing the final product. Made one from old bed sheets to try it out, looks pretty good as someone touching a sewing machine for the first time. Now halfway through making another one for real. Give yourself a medal 🤝🥇, and a pat on the back Sir Cornelius you deserve it, a lot of satisfied comments all over your videos. Will comeback for other projects to learn from you, you are a good teacher.
I'm happy to hear it. I hope your final pants turn out well and I'm a little jealous that you've got a new machine :) Thank you for watching and thank you for the kind words! Happy sewing and may you make many a thing.
This Channel is the best for fashion design- entry level and any other designer interested in learning to sew pants for guys. His tutorials are easy to follow, its basically above design school quality. Cornelius you are boss!
I love that your machines aren't high end expensive ones that ordinary people couldn't afford. Mine is a Toyota from the 80s and it's a total workhorse. I just found your channel but after a video and a half I've subscribed because of the way you take time to explain every step
You are kind. Thank you. I am glad to hear that you appreciate my content and thank you for watching. I agree and I'm happy to hear you've got a machine that continues to work well.
I never learned sewing from my mother who used to run an alterations business before she fell ill. Getting a new appreciation for what she was able to do. She made all our clothes as kids as well.
There´s a saying which stays forever in my head: "If you can´t afford nice things, then you still can build it." Thank you a lot Cornelius. Your channel is exactly what I needed. I never have sewed my own clothes from scratch, but I always loved the Old Money Style. Except that I can´t afford Chinos for 60-80€ or Finer pants for 100-130€. In past I rather have bought clothes made them to fit. It was a way for me to look good without spending too much. But this tutorial is just on point and so detailed. Thank you a lot.
One thing I appreciate is that you're turning out high quality garments on a sewing machine anyone can find at a thrift store for $20 or $30. Really shows that it's the workman not the tools that turn out quality.
Hello Cornelius! I've been sewing clothes for me about a year, occasionally sewing for others. For Hanukkah, my son wanted updated Oxford Bags. I figured, how hard could it be. The patterns I found were awful, with little instruction or instruction for historical reproductions. Your site saved me. After creating a new pattern based on the ones I found I needed basic construction guidance. Thank you so much for your clear, fun, thorough visual and spoken instructions.
How wonderful. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and congratulations on figuring out how to make the pants you wanted for your son. I hope that your son is happy with what you made. You are a wonderful person for making the effort.
I LOVE IT! "Do it before it becomes a chore". That's greaaaaaat! I'm adopting that scripture. I read this book called the PEP method. It was all about working effcientcy (back when I used to work, tee hee, I'm retired!) and it had almost a mantra "DO IT NOW". I love your mom's scripture, "Do it before it becomes a chore". That needs to be a plaque hanging somewhere.
I did it! People were surprised that the first thing I sewed in my life was pants but I did it thanks to your videos. I really like how it just suits perfectly! Thanks a million again. By the way, it took me around 6 days to create the pattern and sew the actual pants. I might have listened to you more than anybody else in my life in the last weeks :D
Haha. Well it was a pleasure spending the week with you :) I'm glad they turned out as you hope and thanks for following up yo tell me. May you make everything you desire moving forward.
This was the first sewing video I've ever watched. I've been sewing for a year and a half now. I've made many many pants and I still always come back to this video to remind myself how to make the pant zipper
Mr Cornelius you’ve saved my life! Prior to discovering your channel I couldn’t fold a towel much less construct a complex garment such as pants! My universe is now complete, the planets in alignment they are!
It's baffling to me, that this channel doesn't have more subscribers. The quality of the content when it comes to the sheer knowledge supmemented by the editing and consequent graphic design and adorable sense of humor make me wish that we'll be keeping on seing more from Cornelius. As a guy who wants to start sewing I find this kind of content quite hard to come by.
You are too kind! I am glad that you appreciate my efforts and I will continue to put out content. Slowly but sure I figure is how we grow the audience until eventually, we reach the tipping point :) Thanks again.
With no previous sewing experience, I was able to make two perfectly fitting pairs of pants using this tutorial. Couldn't have asked for anything better.
You're doing god's work here my guy. As someone that cannot stand tutorials that skip steps on small details - you've done a wonderful job. I'll be buying a serger soon, as I plan to make some of my own clothes in the near future.
I am very excited to do my first own sewn pants. Thousand thanks for your instructional video. This is the most UNSELFISH DIY I've ever watched in you tube.
You may not know it, but you've become a member of the family. Running from sewing room to computer every step of the way, everyone knows your voice. Fantastic video, fantastic instructions.
Well, hello everyone. Thanks for having me. I'll really have to have you all over one day as well for dinner :) Haha. Thank you for watching my videos and thanks for sharing :)
Thank you! I feel confident that I can make pants for my husband because I watched your videos. You're a fantastic teacher and I'm thrilled to be learning from you.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your tutorials I finally moved on from easy sew and doll clothes to my first pair of trousers thanks to your help. Now however I must admit I just watch for you...
Love the humor and the meticulous explanation for the process. Recently I've been trying to figure out a front fly zipper for my pants, and so it happens you popped up on my feed. Ouff what a pleasure to watch this one!
Fantastic Cornelius. Thanks for breaking down the processes and stages in the construction, and also for pointing out the key details around the fly and zip fitting. Chapeau!
This is the best channel I have come across with cutting and stitching. Which is very clear for anyone who knows nothing about stitching. It is clear and perfect. After following you, one can understand that what you can do and what you cannot. It is as if you are attending a regular class on stitching. Most of the doubts you clear it before it arises in our mind. Marvellous.!! All the best
I am glad to hear that my video was of use to you. Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Happy Sewing my friend and may you continue to make what you desire.
Casey, I have no doubt that you are Not going to let this "glitch" break you. It sounds as if your treatment is spot on for HER 2 positive. Thank God you followed your gut instinct and got that mammogram. I am going to add you and your family members to the list of friends and family I pray for every day, You got this. We all love you here and I always look forward to your next project. We are going to watch your videos come hell or high water. ❤❤❤
I decided to try my hand at sewing and saw this and the pattern video. I made a scratch pair to check the fit out of an old bed sheet then finished my first real pair today. I’ve got a long way to go but this video helped me so much. Hopefully I can add some stuff to my business attire wardrobe.
Glad to see a curved waistband here, I don't think I've had men's pants with that before but I discovered a while ago that those stay up over my lack of hips with no room between rib and hip better than a straight one when I'm making skirts! I had some stretching issues with mine where it's on the bias so what I did was make sure my two layers were rotated from each other so that anywhere one's on the bias, the other's not. Kinda works! Would probably work even better if I could find my interfacing. Next challenge (I try to have no more than one new challenge per project), a fly! I'm barely adequate at skirt plackets and I've practiced welt pockets on some of my wearable mockups. And I'll be coming back to watch this again next skirt placket, that's a lovely crisp corner on the waistband!
This is by far the most comprehensive and detailed tutorial I've seen. I have just completed sewing mine using your vid as a guide, and I couldn't be happier with the result even though I'm an absolute beginner the result looks like it was made by a professional. Thank you so much for the vid. Greetings from Brazil! ❤
As a sewing machine trying to understand humans and behavior, I see the need to share a comment to unknown people expressing their endeavors like if everyone really cared about. I find this channel practically informative. Best regards Juki DDL-5550
Juki DDL-5550, thank you for informing us Humans, we appreciate your reaching out and communicating this vital information with us mortal beings. We send our regards to mechana-verse.
I am happy to hear that my video was of use to you. But more importantly, I think it's awesome that you're sewing for your dad and my best wishes to him.
Well-produced content! (I'm just starting out here with my wife's overlocker and machine. First pair of pants looked like a muppet costume, so much more patience needed. Thanks for this.)
Excellent, excellent video! But also, you have captured all of the tiny details so clearly on the screen in such sharp focus and clear lighting that we can see and understand every one of them. Very well done!
I am happy to hear that you appreciate my work. I have a pretty simple setup, so I am pleased with the quality I am able to get out of it. Thanks for the kind words.
I was looking for a channel so I could learn to sew dress pants for my husband, your dress shirt design vid came up on my suggested vidoes and after a search for dress pants, yours came up first and I've gotta say, after 2 tutorials, I'm sold 😂 I love how easy you’ve made them to follow along. Haven't sewn anything as yet but I can assure you, you've gotten a new sub from this gal. I'll have a pretty snazzy dressed hubby in the near future (Lord's willing) thank you!
@@CorneliusQuiring Agreed. Clothes are just fabric. ; ) These videos are helping me finish sewing some pants for myself (female who wears women's clothes) and for my girlfriend (female who wears men's clothes). I'm merely tweaking the details based on our preferred personal styles. So happy I happened across this channel, you're an excellent teacher!
so many excellent detail shots! Impressed you saw the need for, and then got the ones of the pins going through the zipper underside, this whole section on doing the zipper is so clear.
Thank you, Cornelius! This video is awesome. Made two pants with it, with no errors or weird consequences along the sewing. Especially love the little detail tips with excellent video shots, so I really know what you're doing. You make sewing easy and fun.
I have to thank you Cornelius, I've just sewn my first pair of trousers, I was using a pattern but most of it was gobbledegook to me, so I kept referring back to your video when I got confused (which was a lot) Very clear instructive video, lots of great close ups and you kept me giggling and encouraged. Awesome job my friend. I'll keep a look out for more. Thank you!
Oh wonderful! I am happy to hear that you got value out of video and were entertain. Congratulations to you for making a pair of pants! May you make many more and do share if you wish to. My net video is a tutorial on high waisted pleated pants. Thanks again.
I've been trying to find guys that sew and see what they are working on. Thank you for your videos. Btw, for future reference, when sewing darts, never backstitch because it will leave, what we tailors call a bubble. Stitch off the fabric and leave about 2 inches of thread and tie thread together
Many thanks for this, I needed to make pants for my sons next con costume and didn’t have a pattern, I started with your video for making a pattern and then moved to the sewing video that I probably watched and paused 10 times, but they are done and he’s thrilled! Thanks again!!
Good on you. Congratulations and making a pair and I hope your sons have a great ol' time in their custom pieces at the con. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. It's great to get to hear about the folks watching my content.
Great stuff! Been learning how to make clothes, but struggling to find anything to make mens clothes. This is a great step by step tutorial to follow, thank you
That zipper/fly tutorial is the best I've found so far, and I've been looking all over for a while now! I've subscribed and can't wait to watch ALL your videos on my day off Thank you!
Great fit and the way you handled that welt pocket was spot on what men need in a dressed up but strong functional pocket. Your videos are very good teaching tools I hope you are teaching someplace.
Oh wonderful, I'm glad you like what I'm doing with my videos. I am happy to hear it's translating. For now, I'm focusing my teaching efforts here on TH-cam :)
Holy shit! This was amazing to watch. I know nothing about sewing, and now I want to sew my own pants. Definitely need to teach my daughters to sew too.
Hi Cornelius! I've watched several of your videos and they are terrific! Thanks to them I think I'm finally able to make better a better zipper fly. That's what I've been having the most trouble with. Someone told me that you're in Montreal... if that's correct, then Hi from a fellow Montrealer! I just started sewing at the start of Covid and sewing has become a passionate hobby for me. I now own 7 sewing machines! Addicted? Who me?
Once you get another 7, then we can start talking addiction :) Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you appreciate my content. I've been to Montreal, but I reside in Toronto currently :) Happy Sewing.
Your channel just happened to come up on my feed and I am more than grateful it did so ! Your tutorial was excellent. The way in which you broke down the steps for each process, was very clear and informative. You are definitely a talented young gentleman, the pants you produced look very professional. You have the natural ability to instruct information and processes, in such a manner the information is easily understood. Your cheeky wit and humor, appreciated ! Looking forward to more Tutorials and videos. Best regards !
You are very kind. Thank you! I appreciate your comment. I am happy to hear that my efforts translate in an understandable way for you. Feedback like yours is motivating and encourages me to make more of them.
Cornelius, This was a very informative tutorial. I enjoyed it . I also enjoyed your pant drafting tutorial as well. I would recommend your presentation to anyone wanting to draft and make trousers. Well Done!
I can not help but fall in love with your candor good sir! Your skills are clean and the way you explain is impeccable! Thank you sew much! 😂😊 This has been a blast following along with you.
Bless your soul 🙌 Thank you for producing and sharing this content. I learned some basic garment construction many years ago but I didn't practice enough to remember what I learned, and I put this aside. Getting back into making pieces for myself, will be such a joy now thanks to your channel 😃 thank you again!

The front fly was a little too intimidating for me so I did buttons in the front, but this video pared with your pant drafting video gave me amazing results. Anytime I feel stuck in my projects I pop by your channel and for some reason I find all of my answers easily explained. ❤❤❤
I've only ever sewn for myself (all skirts, no trousers), but I'm about to make my boyfriend a seersucker suit. Because of my inexperience I have a really hard time wrapping my head around trousers, so this video is very helpful!
Thank you so much! This was such a great tutorial. I feel better about trying to sew pants for my sons now. Especially the zipper and pockets. Thank you!
Incredible video! I can’t wait to have some more time to myself to be able to follow your pattern video and to take a shot at making a pair of pants finally
Thank you very much Cornelius. I have never ever seen this kind of detailed presentation on this profession before. Again thank you. And, if you can please share us every detail of measurements also please. 👌
I am happy to hear that you appreciate my content. Thank you. If you want to learn how to draft pants, just check my page, the video before this one is all about that. Thanks again.
Sou do Brasil, e fazendo uma pesquisa de conteúdo de costura e moldes de roupas, encontrei seu canal. Onde você ensina passo a passo . Eu me sinto bem entusiasmada em aprender a costura. Parabéns por esse dom que você tem. Desejo muito sucesso. E obrigada por compartilhar.
Fantastic as always! A pleasure to watch and beautifully crisp instructions. I was pleased to see I had managed to more or less reconstruct your flies technique perfectly! Some minor variations in the pockets but to more or less the same effect - I do a lot of the reinforcing stitches around the back pocket just through the pocket pieces and the seam allowances of the back panels which means you can get a really crisp finish without visible topstitching but that's just a style variation. I also like to catch my belt loops into the seam of the waistband then stitch them with a straight stitch just below the waistband seam and then at the top of the waistband - but I have to be honest, the perfect fit of the pattern from your drafting video means I didn't bother with the belt loops on my most recent pairs as I was enjoying the luxury of trousers that fit without a belt! I applaud the effort you've put into this resource - this video will be invaluable as a reference when I make my next sets of trousers! Thank you so much for taking the time on this.
Well I'm a little jealous of you: no belt loops! They sound like they're a fantastic fit indeed. I am also happy to hear that my technique is similar to yours. I've just patched together random tutorials and general experimentation to arrive at the techniques I displayed in this video. I also haven't attempted to use a commercial pattern ever. so knowing it's similar means I am doing something right. Putting the belt loops in with the waistband is a brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing how you make yours. The reinforcing stitches is also top tip. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for chiming in.
Thank you so much for making this video, and the one for drafting the pattern. There is such a lack of this type of content for menswear -and videos like yours are a huge help for those like me who are learning this stuff on their own. Could you please consider making a video for a shirt pattern/block and the assembly? Thanks again and keep up the great work 😄

I certainly plan to do the same for tops one day, however the next handful of videos are going to be a bit more "selfish," but I plan to do it eventually. Thanks for chiming in.

I have never seen sewing made so easy like your channel. Thank you for your hard-work
I am happy to hear my content is of use to you. Thanks for watching and happy making!
Fantastic Cornelius. Thanks for breaking down the processes and stages in the construction, and also for pointing out the key details around the fly and zip fitting. Chapeau!
Oh wonderful, I am glad to hear you appreciate my efforts. I am happy to hear they translated. Thanks also for watching and commenting.
That's awesome, I'm glad to hear it.
Hi, I've been looking for a how to on mens pants and I'm so happy I found you. Your instructions are expert. Thanks a MILLION. Sharon Miller
Oh wonderful! I am happy to hear that you appreciated and thanks for watching.
Pants Sewing Methods made simplified and very easy to new learners like me! Cheers and all the best to you!
I'm glad to hear it.
The idea of swapping the direction to account for the bias is a great solution. Thank you for sharing!
That's awesome! May you now go on to make many more wonderful garments for yourself.
It’s 4am here almost and I just watched this whole video. Fantastic channel. I’m gonna make myself a pair of trousers
I hope you do ... and also got some sleep :)
As a sewing machine trying to understand humans and behavior, I see the need to share a comment to unknown people expressing their endeavors like if everyone really cared about.
I find this channel practically informative.

You are by far the goofiest of the lot I have watched... but your content is spot on 100%
Then I have achieved to the highest of my abilities. Thanks for watching. ☺️
@@CorneliusQuiring yeah you have a new fan for sure. Keep making this type of content and I'm here for it.
🙏🏻🙃☺️
You’re amazing! I’ve just started to learn how to sew, so I can create personal stuff for my sick dad. Hopefully he’ll love these fantastic trousers ❤
Hey, at least you tried making your first pair. That's most important. Now you know what to work on for the next pair :)
I'm chuffed to hear it. I am glad to hear that my videos are of use to you. May you make your husband all the garments you desire! Happy sewing.
Wonderful tutorial!! Your instructions could easily be applied to woman’s tailored trousers as well. Thank you.
Well that's just wonderful news. I should remove "mens" from the title.
@serasee I am happy for you and your partner. Both having pants to your preferences sounds like a great way to be. Thanks for a bit of your story.
I think this is the best video i've seen on how to do a zipper fly, thank you
Oh wonderful, I'm happy to hear it! Thanks for watching.
I'm trying to sew some work pants for my spouse and this is the best tutorial so far
I am happy to hear it! Hopefully, they turn out well.
so many excellent detail shots! Impressed you saw the need for, and then got the ones of the pins going through the zipper underside, this whole section on doing the zipper is so clear.
I am glad you think so. I am enjoying the challenge of making a tutorial video clear and easy to understand so I am glad it translated.
Thank you, Cornelius! This video is awesome. Made two pants with it, with no errors or weird consequences along the sewing. Especially love the little detail tips with excellent video shots, so I really know what you're doing. You make sewing easy and fun.
I'm glad to hear it! Happy sewing.
I come here every now and then to just watch the front fly being done. time to master it !
Oh nice. You've got this. I have full faith you can master zippers!
Your videos have solved so many of my sewing challenges! Thank you! ❤
I'm glad to hear it.
Oh wonder. That's a great tip! Thank you. 🙏🏻
@@CorneliusQuiring you are so welcome brother
Great content very informative. I can't even afford the sewing machine but here I am watching all your videos thank you so much for sharing 👏😊
Well I am happy to hear I'm able to entertain. Hopefully you're able to get the money together to one day have a machine of your own!
Thank you for this - I am sewing for fun without any formal education in it and your tutorial is really clear and helpful
Oh that's wonderful! It always makes me happy to hear when people share their stories. I'm glad my content was of help for you.
Great stuff! Been learning how to make clothes, but struggling to find anything to make mens clothes. This is a great step by step tutorial to follow, thank you
That's awesome to hear. Thanks for watching and I hope you're able to make what you desire.
Best play through ever from a newbie
Oh nice, I'm happy to hear it! Happy to help.
That zipper/fly tutorial is the best I've found so far, and I've been looking all over for a while now! I've subscribed and can't wait to watch ALL your videos on my day off Thank you!
I am happy to hear that it was of use to you. I hope yours turn out well. Thank you for watching and thank you for the kind words.
@@CorneliusQuiringhaven't made a neater zipper in my life
Great fit and the way you handled that welt pocket was spot on what men need in a dressed up but strong functional pocket.
I'm chuffed to hear it. Thanks for watching.
@@CorneliusQuiring - no no! Thank you!

Bless your soul 🙌 Thank you for producing and sharing this content. I learned some basic garment construction many years ago but I didn't practice enough to remember what I learned, and I put this aside. Getting back into making pieces for myself, will be such a joy now thanks to your channel 😃 thank you again!
Oh wonderful, I am happy to hear you're getting some value out of my content but also that you're getting back into sewing. Good luck with your projects and I hope you're able to make whatever your heart desires!
The front fly was a little too intimidating for me so I did buttons in the front, but this video pared with your pant drafting video gave me amazing results. Anytime I feel stuck in my projects I pop by your channel and for some reason I find all of my answers easily explained. ❤❤❤

Again, great! I want to sew garments for my boyfriend, but pants are heckin intimidating. This helps so much!

I've only ever sewn for myself (all skirts, no trousers), but I'm about to make my boyfriend a seersucker suit. Because of my inexperience I have a really hard time wrapping my head around trousers, so this video is very helpful!

obrigado por suas amáveis palavras e obrigado por assistir. Boa costura.
Genius. Just the thing I've been looking for.
Thanks again and keep up the great work 😄
Well I am happy to hear that you feel my content is of worthwhile. My goal has been to fill the void you described, so mission accomplished.
I certainly plan to do the same for tops one day, however the next handful of videos are going to be a bit more "selfish," but I plan to do it eventually.
Thanks for chiming in.
Honestly. You said it all. And yeah I think we need a shirt pattern video
The tutorials have been well received and I enjoy the challenge, so there will for sure be more. 😁
