@@BrianVaughn I'm going there tomorrow and I was just doing some research! The park is massive Nad full of trails! I can't wait to ride rolly polly and bobsled, me and my dad really haven't rode any trails in the Mahnomen Unit (South) much at all so I'm excited to explore and probably just ride the random trails we come into.
This is wordy but I do think its a makes for a good discussion - After three days there riding (just got home) I'd have to agree that many of the trails difficulty ratings are over rated. but at the same time I have to wonder what area we're comparing them to? As a long time climber (all trad, none of that clipping bolts crap) I spent nearly 20 years bouncing around to different areas only to find that a 5.12 in CO is not a 5.12 in Yosemite - much less another part of the state. I see the same thing in MTB ratings. I also wonder if Cuyuna isn't doing it on purpose since it does see much more traffic from unexperienced riders and families. In climbing a route is graded on its most difficult section or more so single move and is why I'd agree with some of the black ratings in cuyuna. Great video - knew I SHOULD HAVE RIDDEN SAND HOG....
Wait a minute....you didn't ride Sand Hog??? Big mistake. Trail difficulty is one of those things I only care about when it comes to black and double black trails. Most of the blue trails in Minnesota are basic trails and I'm ok with that. I just don't feel most of the black trails are that hard and probably should be still a blue. Bobsled, Winzee, Grizzly, Man High Hill, Screamer and The Chute are not black diamond trails. Nothing on those trails will catch you out and get you hurt. It feels like they added these trails as blacks because the blues are so easy.
@@BrianVaughn I was trashed after riding drawpoint twice and mucker mountain twice - still gotta a lot love for old school single track. The "word on the trail" was that the area was closed for maintenance, so I didn't even head over that way...I parked at the skills area as well.
@@BrianVaughn Its a good conversation I used to have all the time with other climbers we also brought up reach for short people vs hand and finger size when climbing cracks (my favorite) For example, La Crosse's trails were also built by rock solid, there is a blue trail Jedi with a huge drop in it that would make any trail a black - but there is an alternate go around. On the other hand War Path is easy, but has a single feature that one cannot go around and it's a double black....
@@BrianVaughn I think that in our area of the midwest, Duluth should be the standard starting point for trail ratings as IMHO they did a good job and are consistent throughout their trail systems. Bobsled and winze should be rated: Very, very awesome. Grizzly: Pretty awesome. I didn't ride the others...rode the other three multiple times....
hey Brian - what do you think of your bike? I'm looking at a 2019, wondering if you ever feel under gunned on the trails we have around here? My cardiologist gave me the OK to go back to riding the way I want to. I've looked at many rigs over the past year knowing I was going to be OK to get on the gas again and I keep coming back to the 5010. I'm also wondering if its purple? I'm very colorblind. SC's Website says purple but your rig looks blue.
Mine is purple but it looks blue based on the lighting. My 5019 came 130/130 and I modified the fork to be 140. I think the 5010 is great but it is a burly bike. It's 31lbs with carbon wheels. That gives me more confidence to take it further but I still have things I wouldn't mind a little more travel. I kind of wish I could get the V4 5010 because I could modify that bike to be more rear travel. I'd love a 140/140 bike but it would be overkill for most trails. I have only ever felt under biked at the double black trails in Duluth. Maybe if I road more park but for the trails here the 5010 is perfect. Maybe a little heavy. My old bike was 29lbs and still holds a few of my PRs.
@@BrianVaughn kinda what I was thinking and I go to Duluth twice a year but do wish I could go more though. I miss 27.5 and a shorter wheelbase more than anything. I still have a litespeed obed hard tail with 2.5” of marzzochi sprung goodness that I rode crazier trails on in Moab than I’d ever ride these days. Thanks for the thoughts Brian, I’m on the fence with the purple though but doubt it’s a deal breaker.
@@driftlessareasingletrack2933 Well, the V4 is different colors and the 2021s are going to be yellow or dark purple. So Cascade Components sells a link for the V4 to make the rear travel 140 or with a 55mm stroke shock you can get 150. I could see swapping that out for different trips. It's not an option on the V3 so I'm bummed. I know a lot of people that have gone 55mm stroke shock but most ended up switching back.
That tree at 7:22 on the right almost snags me every time.
Yeah, that one is always on my mind when I get to that section.
Looks like A fun trail. Look out for that double black berm 😂
That one always makes me laugh. So many people probably never ride it not knowing it's super easy.
Love the red dirt there. Reminds me of Laramie. Some good stuff! I enjoyed the 30 miles of easy and 100yards of difficult comment haha
That is what you'll find. The drops and jumps in the skills park are fun.
Really like me some of that Sand Hog! And Rolly Polly! Didn’t think you were gonna make it here! Glad you did.
I had to ride Drawpoint so I put out some additional stuff I like to ride.
Cool video, the landscape looks fantastic. A really nice trail, well ridden buddy. Keep riding and have fun, buddy
Thanks for watching
This is just what I needed, thank you!
Glad I could help!
I see the park is sectioned in units, would've been nice if you told us which unit each trail was in.
My favorite trails are in the only unit worth riding. You can use a trail map to figure that out.

Good morning!

Thanks
That was nice.
Thanks. Hopefully some people get to enjoy these trails this weekend.
@@BrianVaughn I'm having a tough time being patient and waiting till we go at the end of the month.
Bring water and food. You'll need it.
@@BrianVaughn I don't normally recommend bottled water but I do in this instance as their tap water is horrible.
I typically buy a gallon of water when camping. Easy for brushing teeth and pouring into a water bottle. Plus well water can taste awful.
