I think there are more open baffle designs coming up. The new Caladan, the Spatials and PAP are all getting decent show time. As a fellow LX521.4 owner, I agree that they do some things better than any other design I have heard. The room needs to allow placement of the speakers far enough from the back wall for the magic to happen. I don't think people often want their speakers deep in the room.

All true! There are more open baffles than their probably every have been, but the number of box speakers out there still far outnumber them. Since open baffles are so much easier to manufacture (not design), there must be some kind of major challenge in their design that precludes the major manufacturers from releasing them. Perhaps it is their need for room to the front wall, I'm not exactly sure.

BTW, I also had Orions before I had the LX521.4 and prior to that I had some nice Dynaudio Contour 3.0.

When I heard these speakers and I could build them, I was in. I have already built the cabinets and will be purchasing the drivers etc soon.
It would be hard to find better speakers for the price.

You will not regret this. What midrange are you buying, the magnesium or the older design? What crossover have you purchased? See my other two parts of this review for tips on setup and what I think of their sound.

I went with the new magnesium mid, and built a custom bass enclosure

Hi, have you heard this speaker with the magnesium low-mid driver that replaced the poly curv one ?

My goal is to one day upgrade to the new magnesium driver, as I say in part 2 of this series. Cheers and thanks for watching.
