Timelapse: Steam up Snowdon Mountain Railway in 4 minutes

  • On 4th May 2018, I took the first steam train of the year to the summit of Snowdon. Sitting at the front, I was able to use a camera that didn't affect the operation of the train or affect the staff - so managed to record this timelapse video. Usually the ascent takes an hour - this version takes just 4 minutes. The steam loco, "Padarn", No.6 of the Snowdon Mountain Railway barked and roared the entire way up; the views from either side are incredible and I can honestly say this is one of the most remarkable steam railway journeys of the UK. If you can get the chance - ride it. Cloud or clear, you'll not regret it.

      Could you explain why they don’t go to the top now? Me and my partner went on this trip today and were quite disappointed that we only got to the point where (in the video), the train stops to let the haulage one pass. We were allowed off for 30 mins then went back down

      @@AirsoftSolutions I believe it's due to covid. The summit station and cafe get packed with visitors so social distancing would be impossible. Neither the station nor cafe have been open since the train restarted.

    Very nice video, indeed, but I really regret that you didn’t upload the real-time version! The time-lapse with a factor of 16 and the missing sound both ruin the atmosphere of this one-hour ride. Is it possible to view the real-time video?

      At this very immportant time for everybody in the u.k. with Coronavirus dominating the news.
      Personally if people from outside Wales like it so much, why do they not show more respect to
      the places that they visit here in Wales. Yes, Wales is truly beautifull, sadly to see ignorant, selfish
      tourists now arriving, no concern about keeping themselves, let alone others safe by wearing masks, keeping to distancing
      leaving there rubbish here and there, parking their vehicles anywhere so they can get up Snowdon., Thirty pounds fine
      is not enough for parking tickets it should be a lot more. Never do we hear abot locals having to be rescued in our Snowdonia
      Park by, R.A.F Rescue, only tourists, same with RNLI not locals , BUT shame that we have them coming to Wales Land of Song
      it is only their money that we are glad to see and goodridance to them afterwards. Have a safe journey back to England.

      There is always an idiot like you pushing mask wearing. Bet you had your Covid jabs like a good little sheep too. No Covid jabs or masks here and I've had nothing. @janiap5235

    Be better if the SMR sold tickets more like other heritage railways. The don’t do day tickets where you can hop on and off wherever you like.

    • @dianerogers8805
      @dianerogers8805 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nathan N Farnell you wouldn't want to hop on and off there is not many places where you could do it. The train does cling to the mountain in places. If you want to take in the views from different places better to walk. I have done it 6 times
