Agreed, he had fantastic screen presence and was just as good. I remember the credits had a photo of them together on set and thinking hopefully he gets other great roles like this. Never happened.
Same thing with Mukesh Rishi - great in Sarfarosh, went toe to toe with Aamir Khan, but never got a push beyond that.
Ghulam was the most memorable role of Sharat Saxena. The acting was amazing and the role of Ronnie was equally powerful to Aamir Khan's role.

Sharat Saxena is a versatile actor. Especially liked him played Dhanna in Kaala Patthar and Ronnie in Ghulam. He is an institution in himself. Very few actors have done films in multiple languages, and what a fitness at the age of 73.

Ive heard in numerous interviews like this where actors/directors/trainers have thanked him for scouting them or suggesting their names for movies, etc. It plays a huge role in success of a movie. As a child watching Mahabharat, I was genuinely scared of him.
And obviously role of Ronny in Ghulam. Simply iconic. Immediate change in facial expressions dealing with Aamir and his own goons 👌

His performance in Ghulam was exceptional. I believe had he started his acting career in the Irfan Khan-Nawazuddin era he would have made a name for himself and won many accolades and awards. Such a grounded person and beautiful soul.
Sharat Saxena is so underrated. He never got the main villain role, but side roles, though he was and still is such a fine actor. Ghu;lam did come and he could show his range in that. Unfortunately it came at a time when action films were winding down. But i know he did memorable cameos even after that. I loved his work in Bhagban (emotional) , Baadshah (comedy + action) too. But the small roles in the late 80's early 90s were also good.
Very true. Sharat Saxena never got his due even though he got such a fine personality, a good voice and good acting. Sometimes (in fact almost often) Lady Luck side-steps good people.

Ronnie in Ghulam was a memorable role. Due to his impressive physique, Sharat Saxena mostly got negative roles. However, he was equally good in comic roles. In Mr. India, he was Amrish Puri's henchman alongside Ajit Vachchani. This was both negative & comic. Superb actor in character roles. He was a shagird of Dara Singh.

Sharat sir has given a memorable performance as Ronnie in Ghulam. Iconic. That movie is part of my childhood and without Ronnie, it would be incomplete. What a brilliant performance and ease of switching mood when he beats one of his employees and then starts joking while washing his blood stained hands. One of the best villain roles of Bollywood, right up there with Katya and Mugambo.
