Just started playing Halls of Torment. It is an absolute banger that really brings the Diablo 2 vibes. I have also gotten back into Qud-which is actually the reason I found your fantastic channel; I hope it continues to grow as you provide thoughtful takes and your delivery is excellent background listening while I grind away at my job. I also really enjoyed the Dead Rising remaster and a couple from the previous year in Neon White and Risk of Rain Returns. My son has really gotten into gaming, so I have also had less time to play for myself this past year. I have enjoyed playing coop Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons and also sitting in the copilot’s chair while he beat Link’s Awakening from start-to-finish. He has also enjoyed watching me play Cook, Serve, Delicious and he delights in my meltdowns and abject humiliation as customers walk away unfulfilled.
Glad you're enjoying Halls of Torment! Absolute banger, as you say. And thanks for the kind words about the channel :) Also glad your son enjoyed Link's Awakening. That was the first game I ever played on the gameboy colour. Utterly beautiful game, still one of my favourite Zeldas. Thanks for watching! :) (Neon White is an absolute belter too)
Interesting list! I added Halls of Torment and Path of Achra on my wishlist. My TOP 5 at the moment: 1. XCOM 2 with Long War of The Chosen (mod) 2. Caves of Qud 3. Slay the Spire 4. UnReal World 5. Shadow Empire I think I could play with these games for long time. Not sure if I ever needed anything else! ;) I like to have games that makes me enjoy different things and aren't too "overwhelming". For an example, I like Cogmind but to make it shine for me, it would require from me so much of focus and there are roguelike games that require "less" focus, yet I can feel immersive in them. I've been wishing for a proper and realistic "gather/produce resource, sell it for profit, affect the world" game. Victoria II is closest one. I've tried Against the Storm, Captain of Industry, Workers & Resources but I feel "lonely" in those game: No neighbour countries to interact with. If you have any suggestion for such a game that would suit the description above, let me know. ;)
Good picks, I didn't know about some of these. It would be useful if you could provide a list with the written names, because since english is not my first language I sometimes have difficult understanding them.
My top 5 for 2024: 1. Pathfinder: wrath of the righteous 2. Pillars of eternity 2 Deadfire 3. Silent Hill 2 (original) 4. Death Stranding 5. Castlevania: Symphony of the night
4:42 One of the biggest curses Diabolo's popularity has wrought is having health/mana and sometimes action bars at the bottom. I always preferred the blood omen or blobber style vertical layer out. Makes even more sense with the various roguelike branches which tend to have far too much of the screen covered by trinkets and icons (which doesn't matter in a card or turned based setting but does in any other situation.) The utility of 4:3 is probably the hauntologly I wish gaming did have. (This even stretches out to the god awful modern inventory screens too where the need for a filled wide-screen has made everything hit a utility horizon)
A few games that for one reason or another stood out to me the year. (this doesn't always mean there were the best games of the year, I'm not sure there _was_ a "best" game for me this year, this is more just a list of games that I appreciated slightly more than others at the time I played them) Primarily for the Art: Daemonologie, Miniatures, & DICEOMANCER For developers achieving what they set out to do: Frontline Crisis, The Hungry Fly, Path of Achra, & Grønland Top-notch gameplay: Intravenous 2, Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery, Dominions 6 & Slice & Dice Free: The Thief, the Witch, the Toad, and the Mushroom
@@BreakingZGame You're welcome. With 1700 overwhelmingly positive reviews, I assume Slice & Dice has garnered a small audience--plus whatever community there is for the phone version--but it has an excellent loop and plenty of depth, so it feels like it has underperformed (especially when compared to something like Balatro). Hopefully it has a long tail and continues to sell copies through 2025.

I added the list to the description, thanks for reminding me! :)

Some interesting recommendations there!

Thanks!
You should check skate story
Looks promising! Devolver are usually pretty consistent too

Thanks for the suggestions! Slice and Dice is very underrated in the roguelite sphere I think

Very nice list.
Glad you think so!
nice :D Qud is cool
Did I hear rift wizard?
oh yes. Path of Achra's the closest experience I've had in a game to Rift Wizard. Except I actually managed to beat Achra a few times
