  • I finished another sketchbook, woohoo! This one is my A4 Etchr Sketchbook with 100% cotton watercolour paper. I ended up using this one a lot for previous videos, so you may well have seen some of what is inside already! I also decided to paint the white canvas outer cover of the book, as it was very dirty and needed to be decorated to hide all of the marks (and cat hairs!). I hope you enjoy this one; it is always so satisfying to complete an entire book.
    I've included a link below to the sketchbooks I bought on Etchr's website. They come in bundles of three and aren't exactly cheap, but they are very nice and excellent with watercolours. (I have the cold press ones).

    Oh my goodness! What a LOVELY sketchbook! It is entirely a work of art, no pun intended...haha!
    I personally LOVE that you didn't tape off every piece the bleed through around the edges as you painted through the book really added to the overall feel for me.
    This completed sketchbook is definitely in my top favorites. 🥰
    Your paintings are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing with us. 💝

      Thank you so much! It is always immensely satisfying to finish an entire book. It's not something that happens very often in my case, so I call it a win, haha! Hopefully I will get another book I'm working on finished soon. 😊

    Loved this one. Trip down memory lane for me. My father immigrated to the U.S. from Barbados in 1909. We had a HUGE orange frangipani tree & loads of hibiscus in our front yard in Miami.

      Oh wow, amazing! Up in tropical Queensland, the white flower frangipani seems to be most common. I wish we could grow one here but it is too cold in Winter.

    It’s such a gorgeous and thorough sketchbook! I love the front and back cover paintings. I think I saw the point when I started to recognize the artwork from the book, so there were definitely some new ones in there for me! The Etchr sketchbook looks like it can take a LOT, especially because you’re using front and back. I’ll have to look into it🤯

    I'm getting an A5 hot pressed for my birthday this year and am looking forward to giving it a go. I've been waiting for these sketchbooks to hit the US market, and Blick's art supplies finally got them! So I had to rejigger my list for my birthday order to fit the A5 into it. I'll remember to gesso the surface before I paint the cover though, thanks for that tip! I typically like hot pressed paper better for inking projects and such. Plus, sometimes the texture of cold pressed paper really bothers me. I love how your paintings turned out! I know this is late, but it helped me decide if I wanted to invest in Etchr for my next A5 sized journal.

    That was inspiring Becky, I’ve just started using my new A4 Etchr sketchbook & decided not to be to precious about it, just going to jump in and go for it. It’s so nice having 100% cotton paper to paint on in a book. I’ve been mainly using cut up sheets of 100% cotton watercolour paper and storing them is a pain it’s nice having everything in one place.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that's great! I hope you enjoy your book as much as I loved using mine! I have another A4 one that I have yet to use, lol. I almost always start a sketchbook with the intentions of having it be one of those perfect aesthetic things with not a blemish or mistake to be seen, but then I get too impatient and it always ends up as a right old mess, lol. But I think it's fun having a busy sketchbook, and it feels a lot more authentic to me than trying to maintain some sort of "perfection". Also once it is messy, it makes it a lot easier to keep using. 😆

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It was easier to paint on the cover once I had scuffed the book and made it dirty, haha. Sketchbooks show a journey of art learning, so it will reflect where you are now, and it's always fun to look back at them in later times. The hardest bit is painting that first stroke on the cover, and then the rest is a lot easier! You can do it. 🙂❤

    I love how the front and back cover came out, I like the concept of the ocean scene behind the flowers. Also really enjoyed the flip through, if I had to pick a favorite I think it was M Graham painting of the iguana (I think it was a iguana? lol)

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'm pretty sure it's an iguana, but I have been wrong before. In an early video I drew what I thought was a bearded dragon and it turned out to be a sailfin lizard which someone pointed out in the comments weeks later. 😂

    I just got one of these and have been wondering what to do with the cover. I might paint it first since it's clean and fresh, although I don't have any gesso or acrylic on hand. I wonder if anyone has done pour art on these. Although you'd have to tape off the cover well! In your Kuratake set I'd just start with the green provided, then mix yellow or blue or brown with it to adjust.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  ปีที่แล้ว

      A pour would be an interesting experiment; I can see me making a huge mess and getting it all over the paper inside though; far too risky, haha!
