No use even learning to hand sew if you can’t thread a needle! This video walks you through my favorite way to thread a needle (or needling a thread) and knot my thread. Dreaming up a slow stitched wardrobe? Fantasizing about hand sewing your first 18th-century gown? Practice this simple but sometimes daunting task so you can get to stitching! Remember people have been sewing by hand for over 30,000 years. If they did it so can you!! #rememberwhatyourhandscando

@@sewncompany I agree. I didn't get the knotting tutorial. You made a video edit in the middle and that confused me. Other than that your video tutorials are just excellent. Thank you! :)

It says to put the knot where you want it to be. I didn't know I wanted a knot at all though

I had to slow down the knotting part to 0.5 speed to follow it... Mimic her hand position and movements. It works!

The knotting technique is magic! 🤩 Can´t believe I have been trying to knot the end in such an ineffective way for all this time! Well that stops today. 😁

No she didn't, and there's text instructions as well. Try playing at a slower speed if you have trouble following it.

Love this channel...what a find! However I still cant thread a needle...thats exactly how I try, and fail to do it all the time but I have found making a tiny loop in the thread gives it enough rigidity to usually go through the eye. Of course thats dependant on the size of the eye. Also, since I broke my wrist in a few places last year, I have found that a curved needle is more comfortable (just in case it helps anyone else, it just seems to do a lot of the work for you,) I have them in normal, hand sewing sizes and love them!

She's using linen thread, most likely waxed, which is probably why it goes in easily. :)

So this is an absolute dunce-y question but you end up with a single thread threaded through the needle with a knot at the end? I was taught by my grandmother to form a loop with the thread threaded through the needle and tie at both loose ends, but I'm thinking thats double threaded? (Thank you for this video, I had to pause it a few times but it worked great)

First and foremost thank you for taking your time to make this video just some personal points this video starts too far ahead there are details before even this step that need me explained, for example am I twisting just the being piece or the whole line of thread I plan on sewing. Also mentioning the fact that twisting the piece stiffens it allowing you more easily pass the eye over it. Details.

I’ve watched this 20 times and still have no clue. Is the thread through the eye of the needles before you wrap it around?

"Needle the thread"... Yes. I cheat and beeswax my thread, too. I am going to try the knot, it looks easier than double-wrapping the thread around a finger..

You are actually threading the needle, and not needling the thread. Your right hand starts by moving the needle, but stops. Your left hand then guides the thread through the eye. Watched with 25% of the normal speed and volume turned completely off.

I was taught to do this by a blind person. Their thread was heavy and quite coarse, and of course the needle matched the thread sixe.... and now... I can most often thread a needle, which I can not clearly see !

Thanks for sharing! I definitely think you can sew by feel. Ive seen several people who are blind or have difficulty seeing hand sew beautifully.
