I'd like to think Andy's "Thanks, guys." was not only a thank you to his toys, but a thank you to the first generation of Pixar fans as they themselves have grown up and can now pass on that love of Pixar the the next wave of kids. As for me, I will never stop loving Pixar, and I hope to pass that on.
You’d have to be crazy not to get emotional with the ending of Toy Story 3, especially if you watched the first two films.we grew up with the toys just like Andy did, and when this movie came out, a lot of us were adults too. We were saying goodbye to old friends, just like Andy was. It certainly tugged on my heartstrings.

Or you have a functional braincells and laughed at all the weepy scened while you're supposed to pretend a 12 year old NEVER GREW past his childhood toys, cause them being actually replaced by toys for older kids would actually make a point about things moving on.
Andy saying good bye to his toys as he drove off with Woody's final words saying "So long partner" really hits me home as college student. I hope my boy Andy lives off a better life now. Wish him luck for the best.
Not only is this the best ending for Toy Story, but for Pixar as a whole, having Andy pass done his toys to Bonnie a metaphor of older kids growing up and passing these movies to newer, younger kids. Also adds to the fact the I was around the same age Bonnie is in 2010.
Woody was in the box with everyone before Andy even left the house, probably buried deep in the bottom under everyone else. Him looking frantically back towards the college box on the desk as he was writing the note indicates he realized he wouldn’t have time to race back up as Andy was coming back, so he joined the gang instead. If I remember correctly from the commentary on the dvd, the shot from the college box was meant to be misleading, to keep Woody’s reveal a surprise to the audience by making us think he did indeed make it back to the college box. Seemed it worked all these years later 😂
Although I didn't watch Toy Story growing up, it still had a profound impact on me. When the final scene of Toy Story 3 appeared on the screen, it broke my heart.
I will completely admit that when I watched this in theaters years ago before I left for college, I was stoic until Andy said "He'll be there for you no matter what" and the music swelled up.
This is a good ending and Toy Story 4 didn’t need to do anything. But it unfortunately did. And now there’s gonna be Toy Story 5. Toy Story 1, 2 & 3 were amazing for my childhood and everyone else’s.
What’s funny is that they probably realized they messed up by making 4 and the entire group not ending together so now they have to make another film to in that
All Toy Story movies are good but I still prefer fourth film. So don't bash my opinion. I just honest. But really. For honset. how do you guys know that Disney is going to continue with the Toy Story franchise if the news never say about it?
I like to think that deep down, Andy knows to a certain extent that the toys (or at least woody) have some form of sentience. Maybe not to the degree we as the audience sees, but some nonetheless. The fact that he states that woody was always there for him when he needed it, and never gave up on him no matter what. He’s noticed- though never made a big deal of it or mentioned- how Woody sometimes seemed to appear out of nowhere. In places he shouldn’t be because he wasn’t placed there previously. It would also explain (outside of plot relevance) why woody means so much more to him when he most likely had several of the other toys just as long. Sure, we all have our favorite childhood toys, but Woody was Andy’s closest friend and held no grudges, even when Andy eventually stopped playing with him. And it only makes the final goodbye all the more bittersweet and heartfelt.
I can't believe you didn't mention that, during this entire scene,a Beutifull arrangment of "you've got a friend on me" was playing, truly one of the most beautiful thing's i've seen and heard.
It's almost depressing just how much the plot and resolution of Toy Story 4 ruined and twisted every message and impact this ending had... its like they did everything in their power to directly do the opposite of what the message of this scene was supposed to mean.
@@Smiley.08 I wholeheartedly agree. If they absolutely had to they should have started a seperate Toy Story spin-off trilogy starring different characters entirely (but of course... that wouldn't make as much money as nostalgia pandering would)
This scene is so powerful. I am even trying to hold back tears going through it in this video break down. For me I think the scene hit so hard because it reminds me that I used to be a child. I used to be innocent I used to be naïve. The world used to be so big and now it’s so hard and mean and I wasn’t so jaded once upon a time. I miss little me 🥺
19:30 - It's also a callback to the intro of Toy Story 1, where Andy is making his way from his room to the kitchen. Love it when sequels do stuff like this!

I love Toy Story 3 so much, one of the best films of all time. I would love to see u do a video on Dr who's 50th anniversary like a scene that changed day of the doctor. Just a suggestion tho🤷♂️
IKR! It might seem that way since you don't expect a college student to be playing with toys at that age, but I find it super sweet since it shows Andy finally playing with his toys after who knows how long while creating a memory that'll be remembered by Bonnie forever.
I think Woody was in the box with the other toys since Andy's bedroom, if I remember right, there's the shot of him looking back and forth between the boxes in the bedroom, then he doesn't actually get into the box before it cuts to in the car. I feel like the shot showing the box not having Woody looking through the hole before switching to a very static pov also lends itself to Woody never being in there, and he would have hid at the bottom so when Andy looked in he wouldn't have seen him since while he's taking the toys out of the box to give to Bonnie he stops looking in to grab them after Rex.
Ah yes the movie where toy story should have ended. If they wanted to keep going with this then I feel like following different toys with the originals being in some background shots would have been a good way to continue, like they could have named it " Another Toy Story " or something. But who knows maybe they plan on making movies centered on each toy after this.
As others have pointed out, Woody was already in the donation box. The shot with the College box is a misdirection to make you think Woody is still in there (when it peers towards the box hole, we don't see him there directly).
So, I don’t think Woody rushed into the other box. I think showing the box that he was supposed to be it was a misdirection for the audience, as for Andy. We all assumed and expected him to be in the College box, but we never actually see him in there, he was always in the other one, and he was always going to let go of Andy in this scene
