- This is the final vlog from our 3 part North Island, NZ road trip. We finally made it to the capital of New Zealand, Wellington!
Our first stop was to Zealandia, an urban ecosanctuary right in the heart of Wellington city. You can either wander around the grounds on your own or go with a tour guide. We bought the general admission to explore on our own. Awesome thing is the pass is valid for two consecutive days so you can go back again the next day.

For lunch we ate at a little pizzeria called Pizza Pomodoro. Absolutely delicious pizza and totally satisfied our cheese craving too. It's tucked away in an alley very near popular Cuba Street.

Our Airbnb was only a few minutes walk from the Wellington Cable Car (top end) making it an awesome location. Modern, immaculately clean, spacious and with interesting architecture too. Our host Brenda was warm and welcoming, making it a great 2 night stay for us.

To visit the Wellington Wind Turbine aka Brooklyn Wind Turbine, you can either do a hike or drive right up to it. If you take the pedestrian route, you'll end up passing the Brooklyn Army Bunkers which is well worth a visit for great views of Wellington city where you can wander around interesting bunkers covered in graffiti art too.

Ecosanctuary looks amazing, one to check out next time. You had MUCH better views than when I went to the turbine (fog had set in!). For any readers interested in tips for Wellington, my number one is the free tour of the Beehive & Parliament. Very interesting. Cheers to Yen and Peter :)
The fog does does sound uniquely nice in its own right though, not everyone would get to see that 😁👍 ads a nice dramatic effect in photos.

That's a really sweet airbnb, yes agree, love the architecture and also the little art pieces around the room. Lol!!! Changed to a longer shorts haha, that's so Peter! Love the night view, omg the view from the Turbine and you get to see so many more turbins at the horizon too! Safe drive around guys! Awh man... how we miss traveling! 💓
Hopefully Malaysia will be able to get things under control again soon. The lockdowns do work it just needs people to keep their vigilance afterwards too. 😅 long shorts come out for the winter 😂😂

Tables always a must for us too in AirBnb’s and hotels! Nice spot with the skylight and triangular shaped ceiling/roof

That city center is super charming and pizza is always a great plan. Yes, never underestimate a small eatery. They usually have the best food. You guys can totally eat the whole thing! Beautiful Airbnb too. Glad you guys were able to go up after all. The views are amazing.

Awesome upload today folks,just love Wellington (got to,got a lot of friends and family down that way),but it's just got so much on offer,and Zealandia is certainly one of those places. But it's the food,and as usual,you guys just find the perfect places to eat - but wherever you go in Wellington,there's always some nifty place to munch down at,and Cuba Mall is perfect (that could be what they're trying to achieve with Queen Street here in Aucklandhole).
💯 agree Wellington is where it's at for the good food. There are so many awesome spots on Cuba Street makes it really hard for us to narrow it down to just one for the vlog 😅 Aucklandhole 😂😂😂

I have lived in Wellington my whole life and I have never been to that pizza place or Zelandia, I now need to go to both! Also they open up the bunkers on ANZAC day and it's really amazing to walk around them and learn the history of it all, a very cool experience!!!

Work does a tennis professional at the Ranouf centre in WELLINGTON and trained with the black caps ....
A friend of mine was a cricket umpire and knew the New Zealand black caps manager .. he asked me could could I come down and train and of course being Australian most Australians are first grade cricket ...
So I went down for a session and was bowling and they asked me back and said that they needed fast bowlers so I trained with them for three or four sessions it was great fun it was great to meet Stephen Fleming , Dan Vettori
It was a great experience and a lot of fun

Was watching a documentary about Zealandia a few days ago, it's so fascinating! The exhibition is insane, that bridge is so so cool, this is the perfect place for Dinosaurs exhibition haha!!

Hmm I only remember the kaka feeding station there was a sign about kaka 🤔 and the tuatara one we only knew to look in that area coz overheard a guide say they like it when it's sunny so might see them come out then 😆 they may have had other signs and we just didn't notice lol but it was nice just wandering about 😁 oh my goodness yes the hardest thing is waiting patiently to eat when you're hungry but having to film and the other person is saying how yum the food is 😂 hahaha Peter definitely had to wear pants when we went to the South Island though! Christchurch was so cold! 🥶

Amazing! I drove to the turbine on the Christmas holiday, not feeling cold but just cool and fresh. Another wind farm in Makara is more amazing, green grass with blue sea!

Wellington will always have the special place in my heart. Spent my first few weeks in New Zealand there. Between Te Papa, the beaches, the tunnels, being set in all those hills, and the tasty food scene, it was a great intro to Aotearoa. Thanks for the vid. Made me sentimental.

As everyone over Internet rating Wellington as a compact, highly walkable city, I did a test during my NZ trip by walking from national library in city center to Zealandia... the walk was quite exhausting 😆

Welcome to our country
Not going to scroll through all the comments to see if someone already said this, but "pomodoro" is the Italian word for "tomato", although the litteral translation is "golden apple".
And now that I'm in the process of showing off: if you like bunkers, come to Belgium. There are tons of derelict ones from WWII dotted across the landscape, because we were a real battleground in both wars, unfortunately. Ypres (Ieper in the local language) is the place to be for witnessing the marks that a war can leave on a landscape.
I'd love to go to Zealandia myself one day, it looks awesome!
Always very curious about your temperatures, by the way. Here spring finally came through after an exceptionally wet and and cold start in April and May. Temperatures have soared to 22 degrees Celsius and I'm huffing and puffing, but I am happy to finally see some light! All the moisture that has accumulated in the soil over the past weeks is now evaporating quickly and as a result, the air is humid and the warmth sort of clings to you. I can hear Yen purr all the way up to here ;)

I think it was around 8 degrees when we went to Wellington however it's an extremely windy city and the wind makes it feel much cooler. I'll trade the winter for your 22 degrees any day 😂

This coming aug will be different! i am visiting nz with my husband and my toddler.
Any recommendation lookout spots where we can drive up, and have less walking track? (3 years old)

Yo!!!! That's funny Wellington is the windy capital because Chicago is the windy city of the US. I don't think we've been to an eco sanctuary. Great place to build an appetite too.

We only stayed in Wellington for a day n night. The last time we were there was begining of 2017 n it was a public holiday in NZ so we didn't get to see much hahahaha.

Awesome tour guys! I always love to see home through other people's eyes. Zealandia really is just the most amazing place, and the awesome thing is that the fence you're standing next to by the wind turbine is the very top part of the Zealandia fence!
