- This is Matterhorn Bobsleds POV Front at Disneyland California! [HD]
The Matterhorn temporarily closed on January 9, 2012, for a 6-month refurbishment. The mountain was renovated by redoing the paint job throughout the outside of the mountain and some repairs on the inside. The vehicles were also changed to single seaters instead of the lap sitting, with three seats in each bobsled with two cars linked together for a total of six guests (similar to the trains used on the Florida incarnation of Space Mountain). The new bobsleds were shown as painted red, blue, and green. The ride reopened on June 15, 2012.

Ah, this is a classic! I never get tired of these great rides. I hate hearing "It's not scary". I'm of the firm belief that not every ride needs to be scary. Fun can be exciting, without the fear. Just my opinion.

I remember when I was 9, my mom promised that when we went to Disney Land, she wouldn't make me go on any rides I didn't want to go on. Well, I just so happen to hate a lot of rollercoasters. My mom saw the Materhorn and she said, "Ooooh we have to go on that! Come on, *my name* you HAVE to do it!" I was TERRIFIED! I cried in line and then I got on the ride and nearly had a heart attack, and lost a filling I found out later, but I can honestly say that I don't regret one bit of it. Magical!

I'd rather the right side cause if you wait at the line for like 30 minutes, or 1 hour, you get to experience a little longer on this ride rather then wasting your time at the station.

I love this ride. My favorite time to go on this ride is at night around the time when the fireworks show is about to start. It adds to the spectacle of the whole ride and makes it that much better.
Theres actually a hidden basketball court at the top of matterhorn for employees and VIP guests

You would think this ride is scary but honestly I've been on it an it's really just super exciting and really fun! I definetly recommend it for kids and adults you will love it!

People need to do their research before saying Everest is better. Which is totally unfair. Keep in mind that the Matterhorn was a prototype when it opened. It was the latest in roller coaster technology at the time. Everest was based on the Matterhorn but with more features. There's a limit to how much you can put on the Matterhorn. It is basically a hollow structure supported by steel beams. Also at least our Yeti moves. Lastly, Disneyland is original and for families. All other Disney parks are based from Disneyland. They just build upon the ideas on how to better the other parks.

Disney world is for more extreme rides Disneyland are rides for kids and teens that dont like extreme rides
I remember when I was about 6 I really wanted to ride the matter horn and would watch videos on it. After some time me and my family went to Disney! I ran a wile to the ride and after we got done riding I started crying 😂

Old Yeti roar was scarier and louder than new one. The yeti moans also when you're about to enter the mountain in my opinion don't really match the new one. Definitely like the new animatronics more though.

I went with a group of friends and we took the rougher path. On one of the sharper right turns, we felt the bobsled lift off the left side of the rail. Freaking scary and fun at the same time.
I remember when my sister and i used to make fun of the yeti for being so stiff. Then they renovated and updated the ride, and now we genuinely get freaked out by the new yeti lmao.

I remember when I first went to Matterhorn. I heard girls screaming and my dad was getting me scared. I ended up going with my brother and when it was going up,I was terrified but now it's my favorite ride at Disneyland .

My tip for this ride (because it worked for me and I'm only ten) is just to keep your eyes closed and it will be a really fun ride(and open your eyes occasionally)

I remember going on this back in December. Same place, too. Honestly, I recommend this to ALL ages, its kid friendly. The only scary thing is the line, and for younger kids, the snow-monster-thing.

I’ve been to Disney land maybe 9 times? Maybe more. And every time I would close my eyes because I was young. And the more resent time I went I opened my eyes and it was my favorite ride. But I dint remember it. 😂😂😂

the first and only time I went on this ride was just after graduating from high school in 1985. I got on the ride with a friend during the ride at one of the turns the ride was bumpy and we smacked our heads together. Had a headache for the rest of the day.

One time I stood in the line for over an hour and when I had less than 5 minutes left it broke down and wouldn't be working again for 4 HOURS! 😤
The Matterhorn in June 2015 is very different. The track of the ride is more rough and in the beginning instead of crystals its a collapsed bob sled that is ripped and torn apart. Also they changed the monsters they look more realistic and the first monster is trying to pull itself out of his cave. They have added more small drops but they felt like glides not drops at all

My dad told me that this ride that I like when I was younger will be closed for refurbishment AGAIN last year in November for my 30th birthday celebration when Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage returns this year in September. PLEASE make a note of that on your iPhones. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😭😭😭😭😭

I remember I was trying this ride when I was 11, nothing was scary about the speed or bumpy rail but I freaked out when I saw that yeti in the darkness. Oh, that was horrible. I wasn't prepared for it XD

A few weeks ago we went on this ride like 30 minutes before the park closed and I kid you not it started HAILING as soon as we got on the ride. You guys saw how the park goes from indoors to outdoors so going in high speed in and out of the hail was awful and so uncomfortable. Having yettis scream in your ear didn't help either. It definitely made this ride much more terrifying.

This use to be more scary before they changed it. It use to go 2 or 3 times faster. I think they made it so even a 90 year old can ride it. And remember not all those rides at Magic mountain were around when this was made. So you just ride it for the memories and ride it at night to enjoy the Yeti more.

He got the fantasyland side that is less sharp and has no drops, I have a pass and experienced both sides more than enough times to know that he recorded the easier side

Keep in mind it's:
A: Disney. For the most part, they keep their rides kind of tame so that younger kids can ride, but adults will still have fun.
B: The first steel coaster ever made. It was a prototype, so they couldn't really go too crazy with it. On the other hand, the fact that this ride was (and still is) popular proved that steel was a viable medium for coasters; now we're pushing triple digit speeds, 500+ feet in height, double digit inversions...the basic track technology that allow those to happen exist because of this.
But haunted mansion was not like that

CupcakeMadness that's because the matterhorn was built in the 1950s so of corse this is going to be no where near what is considered as "crazy" today in the present, and don't forget this was what was considered "crazy" 60 years when this was as crazy as roller coasters were. And if this ride was never built then there would be no expedition everest or even Walt Disney World for that matter. This was the FIRST steel coaster to ever be built so next time you think about talking trash about this ride, just think to yourself, "if this ride was never built, expedition everest would not exist, and that this is the coaster that if not built, then there would be even no walt disney world b/c it wouldn't exist"
Expedition Everest was built over four decades after this, with much, much more room (something of that size would never fit in Disneyland) and never would have existed if it weren't for this ride. Everest is basically the Matterhorn but on steroids. Calling it "better" is a little unfair.
abnormalAL Yep, and I always think of Matterhorn being a roller coaster geared more towards kids (still enjoyable for the whole family, though), whereas Expedition Everest is for slightly older thrill-seekers.

I remember this ride when I was a kid. I remember seeing the Matterhorn from a distance and from the parking lot. The ride didn't scare me. I remember the red glowing eyed yeti being on the left side. Don't remember much more than that though.
My friend and I rode this ride first thing in the morning and it scared the living shit out of us!

People may not know but the Matterhorn bobsleds is the granddaddy of all steel roller coasters it was the first so all the other steel coasters out there are because if the success of Disneylands Matterhorn Mountain which opened in 1959....just a little trivia to share with everybody.
When I watched The Wonderful World of Disney on NBC in the 1960s, this looked like fun!
