Not a Gabriel fan in particular, just stumbled upon this song a couple of days ago and I’m not going to lie: I cried my fucking eyes out. It’s so rare to hear a piece of music like this. Probably the best song I’ve heard in a very, very long time.
I'm now 53 & I can say that only one singer has ever made me cry. I've been a big fan of Peter Gabriel since the start same with Kate Bush, & in 2021 I discovered Onuka from Ukraine (Nata Zyzhchenko) voice of an angel. Put Gabriel's music in a pot with Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor & a bit of Kraftwerk & Onuka will come out the other end. The first song ever that truly made me weep was 19-86 by Onuka. It was her voice & the fact it was about Chernobyl, the natural world & the environment. But her voice reduced me to a liquid mess! 😂 Like Peter Gabriel she is also a political & environmental activist.
I can't understand how such a classic song 'fucked' up your eyes. Or else maybe you could not have used the word 'fucking' in that sentence as it makes no sense, and quite frankly, sounds aweful and makes no point at all.
Yknow, Ive hated who used to be my old high school buddy for nearly 5 years now after fracturing a friend group and betraying a friendship going back to elementary school- hanging out nearly every day just to throw it away in an instant. I never forgave them. Ive hated them for so long. Ive hated this bitterness. But having listened to this a couple times now- I think im finally going to try letting go of that hatred. Free myself from this anger and pain.
Perfect time for this song and message. This whole album is a testament to Gabriel's rare staying power and enduring quality. Pop music today has no comparison to this song.
My god, that end is so powerful. During the tour we all stood up and sang the chorus even though we were hearing the song for the first time, it tells you how powerful it is... Thank you Peter for an amazing journey, last time one of your albums got released I wasn't part of this world, and it brings me tears of joy to think that this music will stand by my side all my life. Thank you so much. PS : I still attended the Growing Up tour as a foetus, it might have had an influence on me later on.
Congrats on seeing the I/o tour! I was lucky enough to see the 'So', 'Secret World live', and '(Still) Growing Up' tours. The 'So' tour was fantastic for its time. 'Secret World live' was one of my top favorite concerts, good vibes (even tho Peter's voice was a little tired, my show was near the end of the NA leg). '(Still) Growing Up' was a good show, and his standard North America setlist was... very nostalgia heavy, good times.
This song just takes you to another dimension...a place full of hope, love and respect. I first listened to this piece of ART in my car, a week ago....Goosebumps... It almost moved me to tears. For me it is even better than Secret World and this album is an absolute MASTERPIECE❤ long live PG!

Friends, I'm 42 years old. I have long been a little aware of Peter Gabriel. I knew Sledgehammer, In your Eyes, and Solsbury Hill of course. But recently in the last couple of years I came across Shock the Monkey. It started me on a journey to get to know Peter's music more. Since then I have found song, after song, after song, after song that I love. He is one of my favorite artists now. This newest album i/o is perfect and a masterpiece. So glad I have discovered him, even though I am like 30+ years behind everyone else.

I agree, fabulous end to wonderful new collection of songs. This end chorus has a real feel of Blood of Eden and Biko, but it should have had a powerful hard stop not a fade out in my humble opinion! I like the stronger strings on this mix vs the dark side mix.
I agree, the end chorus is magnificent. . It's a good long fade out though and gives the impression it is going on forever, and in our hearts and minds we KNOW it's going on forever.
@@CaptainOatwright I felt personally that the strings were a little too strong even, but the drum cymbals in the second half are so much 'wetter' than the Darkside mix, which I think really works fabulously for the gospel-vibe (i.e. at first listen I immediately started clapping along when Manu set in)
