Hey guys! Back with another video exploring Fairbury, NE. We love exploring forgotten places, and we found 5 HOUSES that had been abandoned in one day. We are trying to get to the point where we are able to do this full time, we love to do it and we love to bring you guys along with us. If you would, leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video. Anything you do helps out a lot of we appreciate it! Hope all of you are doing well. Thank you! :)
My folks moved to Fairbury NE in 1966. I graduated from the old Jr/Sr high in 1968. The monopoly man is called “Jeff”, short for Jefferson County, and used as a reference to the comic strip of Mutt and Jeff. The school mascot is the Jeffs. The folks moved away in 1973, so I haven’t been back. I appreciate you taking me there, as I watch from my home in Omaha NE.
It must have brought back a lot of memories for you! That was a fun town to explore. I would have loved to have experienced these small towns back then. Glad you liked the videos!
Wow, my old hometown of Fairbury! I wish you would have visited the old Rock Island depot. Both of my grandpas, mom, dad, and brother had worked there. It used to be the Western Division office. Was a busy place. Thanks for the video!
Watching from Lincoln. Fairbury is my home town. Fairbury’s was one of three division points for the Rock Island Dept. When the RR was abandoned the town dropped in half from over 7000 population. It was also home to Roodes Meat Packing Plant who created the Fairbury Brand hotdogs and they are UNL stadium dogs and sold all over. They sold to Weimers with the recipe not to be changed. It was also home to the circus, hence the moral, that wintered their animals just south of town.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing all that history with us! A lot of the small towns around here withered away after the railroads left. It's good to see Fairbury is gaining some population back and the property values are going up.
It breaks my heart that so many farmhouses stand empty and rot for various reasons after our grandparents and great-grandparents worked so hard to have them and nake them home.
Some people genuinely can't afford to maintain the properties but for the most part, they don't appreciate the hard work, sacrifices, and history of these places.
Watching from West Virginia! Beautiful old towns, making a comeback and people getting to work. The homes make me sad, not knowing why the families up and left. Beautiful cross at the end! Thanks guys, God Bless y'all! (Glen).
Yet another fantastic video! The cross on the hill in the sunset is so beautiful. Nobody paints a better picture than our God. Thanks , and keep up the great exploring. 😊🌄✝️
Glad you like the video! My whole life I always heard that Kansas was very flat. I'm sure some places in Kansas are but I have been very surprised at how beautiful it is.
Green leaf Kansas? Oh how I love small towns like this❤ I lived in a small town in Nebraska I think I was like 7 years old it was called long pine Nebraska maybe you know it i loved that little town it did however creat some baf memories but I have good memories from it too 😊
Great explore! Faith seems to really enjoy exploring. She always makes me smile. Miss seeing your son. First time I have seen a Kansas explore, enjoyed it. Stay safe out there.
She definitely loves exploring! Now that it's warmed up, we will be exploring more. I did a Kansas explorer last year as well. I think it has seven houses in one day on the thumbnail. I've had really good finds in Kansas. I'm going to try to explore it more this year.
That’s a post office built to last! Love the mural! The Oddfellows bldg would make a great loft apartment! Glad to see the school restored and repurposed. I love Fairbury. Hi Faith! Is that Jeremy doing your intro? see ya!
That was my middle son Jacob doing the intro. Seems like a lot of those small towns around here have post offices like that. Faith says hello! Glad you liked the video!
Watching from Guam, Marianas Islands(U.S. Territory), Pop. 160K. It's my first time checking out your channel, I just started..hope it's a good one!!!.
It's amazing the technology we have now! I was able to use Google Earth and explore around Guam a little bit. They even had street view which surprised me. Well I appreciate the comment and I hope that you enjoyed the video!
There has been a Wal-Mart in Fairbury since the 80's. I went to it back then. I believe it was the first in the state. Someone once said that someone who who worked in the corporation was from there. Don't know if that part is really true, but it was strange it was the first one in the state.
That is strange! I assumed it was a new store, but it was probably just remodeled. There are a lot bigger towns than Fairbury that still don't have a Walmart.
Haha! Was thinking the same thing. Bought my flowers there for Job's Daughters in the 80s. Attended meetings in the Masonic lodge and had some sort of choral workshop at the high school
If you can afford it you should get some wind-socks for your microphones. They make them for phones, lapel/lavalier mics and cameras. They are those fuzzy things that cover the mic up.
This town should restore that old Coca-Cola advertisement on the side of that building there's an old pharmacy advertisement painted on the bluff that runs along a 59 highway the highway the highway also runs along elk river😊
I have never been to the East Coast. I think the farthest east I have traveled was Tampa Florida. I have always wanted to go through East Tennessee into North and South Carolina, and then go up into Virginia. Glad you're enjoying the videos and thanks for the comment!
You know I would love to turn back time and stand in some of the old buildings when they were still operating as the businesses they actually were 😊wouldn't that be something before they were sold and turned into something else or before they fell into dis repair 😊😢
The last house was the most interesting I think mostly because of the fading light…..and the use of a flashlight that created a sort of vinyett effect. Spare the expense of a new camera…I like that you guys are just roaming….
Yeah we just kinda wing it when we are out, we never know exactly where we are going to be or where we will end up. We did a video in Kansas last August, and our very last house was filmed in the dark. It's a whole different experience filming these houses at night! Thanks for the comment and we are glad you liked the video.
Yeah I used to live in a Town East Mall in most of it's all buildings over the 20 year period got burnt down or tore down but the downtown area and that's it are cedar lake when I had Bunches of old motels that people used to have been in all of which are gone
That first home was packed full of stuff! Like they just walked away!? I bet that syringe was for livestock. The second house looks 100 or more years old. 3rd home is original craftsman style, early 20th century. Shame to see it trashed. We had a Black n White tv like that first one in early 60’s. Lots of vintage relics in that one! The last one looks like 1940’s perhaps? nice sunset! 👍
That was one of my favorite rides! And I agree with you, it looks like the people just vanished from the first house. Pictures were still on the walls, the dishes and cookware were still in the kitchen. I really loved that big house that had those old TVs inside. It looked like it belonged on a ranch in Montana. He could still be saved but would take quite a lot of money. Thanks for the comments. And we're glad you liked the videos!
I just love the old towns in the Midwest. We really didn't have anything like this where I am from in the South. We moved here when the economy got really bad in the South and we've never struggled for work since. Thanks for your comment.
That's why beautiful old homes like this big old brick home gets abandoned and neglected because a lot of people nowadays especially some of the younger generation prefer new apposed to old
Beatrice is on my list of towns to visit. I should be doing a video on that one in the next couple of months. Hopefully I'll have some good finds around there exploring.
It says in the video to say from where this is being watched. Walla Walla, Washinton. Oh! Hey. Got a potential "bucket lister" for ya: Call it a "personal first". Not "advertising" but one for the list would be a place called Rudy's Classic Cars. It's 5.5-ish miles north of Harvard, NE. Saw another video of the place and I guess the owner's like, "Yeah! Look around all you want! Video? Go for it!" (etc.) Heads up, though: That junkyard looks HUGE. Examples: The "Rambler" section, the "Studebaker" section...You get the idea. (You may get followed by this ultra-friendly mutt who almost constantly wants to play fetch but that's beside the point. PFF!!) Been to NE a few times but don't recall ever being in the Harvard area.
Not too far from Oregon. I have always wanted to go to Oregon/Washington! I will definitely have to check out the classic cars if I'm out that way. Sounds like it would be worth the drive!
@@whatsaroundthebendunless you know the owners, you are trespassing. Unless the door is open, you are breaking and entering. These homes belong to someone, whether it’s a family, a corporation doesn’t matter
I hope yer include crime and race percentage like whites, black, latin or asians who live there, source of incomes, early prominent people who lived there, it really helps.

We do too, but most of them are shrinking. I guess most people would rather live in the city these days.

Watching from south of Chicago. Originally from Fairbury.
Never been to Chicago but growing up we were always Cubs fans.

It was the first in Nebraska, I went there as a kid when Walmart meant it was all made in the USA and advertised as such….
Haha! Was thinking the same thing. Bought my flowers there for Job's Daughters in the 80s. Attended meetings in the Masonic lodge and had some sort of choral workshop at the high school
Irvington Alabama. Really enjoy watching your videos.
wonderfull history in them old towns !❤
Yes there is! But most people don't even notice it. I have always loved it.
Wow mates old Americana love the Rural Settings Thankyou
Thank you! Sad it is disappearing. I'm glad you liked the video!
I love this old Fi truck😮😊
If you can afford it you should get some wind-socks for your microphones. They make them for phones, lapel/lavalier mics and cameras. They are those fuzzy things that cover the mic up.
FYI there are some DIY versions too.
We'll definitely look into it. We are also getting an app that helps reduce wind noise. Thanks for the suggestion.
I remember that type of tv back in the 50s. Upstairs 3rd house

Yeah I love it when they restore the original advertisements.

Those are not cobblestones. The mascot was from the comic strip Mutt and Jeff.
Most people that I talk to refer to them as cobblestones, but technically they are pavers. Thanks for the info on the mascot!
I live in nebraska hella cool
Thanks for the comment!
Why Nebraska? No hate I'm a Nebraska native just curious
