  • In this video I'm going to show and explain how the Tesla Powerwall 2 was installed in an outside location. I wanted to talk to you about our Tesla Powerwall 2 installation as we had ours installed outside.
This is perhaps a little different from many other installations I’ve seen in the UK. Almost all have been installed in a garage, utility room or somewhere inside the house.
If you were considering getting a Tesla Powerwall installation and had concerns that you didn’t have any available room inside and didn’t think an outside location was a good idea. Let me reassure you, outside is just fine.
We’re based in the UK in the East Midlands, the Tesla Powerwall 2 was added to our existing 4 kWh PV solar array and we have a 3.8 kWh Sunny Boy investor.
These were fitted in Sept 2010, today is 18th March 2019. The Powerwall was installed on 4th Dec 2018.
The supply and installation of the Tesla Powerwall 2 was done by a company called JOJU Solar who were very knowledgable and did a good installation.

Powerwall 2 in an outside location, not seen many that have been fitted outdoors in the UK. If you have one, is it inside or outside?

Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to you and the installers. Do let me know how things work out for you, interest to know.

Hi John just found this video which makes me more relaxed about having my Powerwalls outside. We are waiting for logistics for the installation which will be nearly a year from order. No site survey due to Covid restrictions, I have sent photos and drawings of our set up here so hopefully no issues on the installation day.

Thanks for watching Mark. An outside location is fine, if you get snow mounding up in the chosen location then the Powerwall should be mounted off the floor.

Nice video. I am trying to get the powerwall. But I will need someone to install. Can you please recommend?

I used JOJU Solar Ltd twice and they were excellent 👌

Quite a lengthy video which lost me a bit With the photography plug. I didn’t quite catch it all but would you recommend JoJu solar and the Tesla wall?

Thank you for watching. Noted on the duration.
Yes I would recommend both. I've also use Stratford Energy Ltd who installed our second solar array. Both companies are very good.
The Tesla Powerwall is a great solution for home energy storage. However, it does not suit everyone as it depends on how much your home usage of electricity is. If you are a low user, less than 10kWh per day, then it may be overkill and a smaller battery solution would suit. Depends also if you have solar panels as they will offset the need to a large battery in the summer months.

@@johntisbury Is there a reason you went with Joju for the PW rather than Stratford? (or did the PW preceed the extra solar)?

Good question. Powerwall first then extra solar. I got quotes from both, like for like Stratford Energy were £1,000 cheaper.

Thanks for this video! I am contemplating a Powerwall installation with similar features (side of the home where there is a fairly narrow walkway, much like your install). Online it says you need 6ft of clearance in front of the Powerwall, which I don't quite have, but you don't seem to have that either. So I wonder if the clearance requirement is just for indoor installations. Did your installers say anything about how much clearance an outdoor installation needs? Thanks!

Hi, thanks for watching. No problems with installation position. Perhaps as you say it's 6 feet indoors. There was never any issue when ours was specced or installed. I can recommend JoJu Solar if you haven't chosen anyone already.

Yes that sounds like a plan.
During the survey we were going to install it outside at the front of the house, then I discovered it has an on/off switch and we a bit worried about it being vulnerable to being switched off. So we then considered it’s position in the under-stairs cupboard, next to the fuse board and meter. Plenty of people have installed them in garages and the like but as the under-stairs cupboard is in the centre of our house (surrounded by the kitchen, hallway and lounge) we finally decided it would be best outside the back of the house. It did mean we have some trunking running through the kitchen now but it’s not too obtrusive, and they did a really tidy job.

A sensible solution. A battery in the core of the house may not provide the safest exit route in the event of an incident.

+And what just checked... the last four digits are XXXX which I’ve added to obstificate the Wi-Fi network ID. It’s a photo so I did that slightly differently than the video where I blurred the footage. Thanks for pointing it out but it’s all good.
