At first, yes. But the birds actually learn pretty quickly that the are unable to fly through the window. It’s usually migrating birds who aren’t used to buildings with glass that end up flying into glass, not regular birds that live in an area around houses year round

Courtz Ok, nice tips, except for the presence of the cats: if you wanna watch the birds, put the little feeder in a position where the cats cannot 'interact' with the birds. Cats are natural hunters and birds are their natural pray: don't play Hollywoodian Hitchcock with nature!

I have a suction cup hook on my window from which I can hang a seed bell with just small seeds. It means I get more small fluttery birds, which my cats really enjoy. You might think that birds would be nervous about a cat’s face a few inches away but their birdbrains have that figured out so no worries

There’s nothing more rewarding than feeding the wild birds. I live on a farm in Devon in the UK and we’ve counted 22 different varieties of bird that visit our feeders throughout the year. Watching the mama birds bring their babies in the spring and summer for food is the most precious thing in the world and worth every penny spent!

In my last apartment, I lived on the 2nd floor and had a small balcony. During the winter, I would spread a thick layer of bird seed on the balcony floor. My sliding glass doors had vertical blinds on them which I kept closed when I was at work. They were perfect for my cats to hide behind and watch the birds. They couldn't get the birds because the doors were closed, but they had fun all day. The birds got free food to get through the winter but only if they were gutsy enough to resist my cats movements.

Squirrels constantly get in mine, it sucks, but since it's an open tray, they don't destroy it to get to the seeds, and the suction cups are really holding up. The only downside is that sometimes the squirrels will sit in the feeder for like an hour stuffing their face and emptying it, meanwhile all the birds just stand nearby and can't use it. But hey... Squirrels get into bird feeders no matter what you do so 🤷
