Wow. You have to be nearly crazy to venture down that hole and drill and dig for opal. But it certainly was a exciting video of your find. I have two black opals from Lightning Ridge that I inherited. Set in jewelry. Beautiful stones.
I'm a retired welder, been in all kinds of mines here in the USA 🇺🇸 especially coal mines, but when I seen these roofs of the mines with very little support actually zero it spooked me , you guys have balls of titanium....lol...

sure its overdramatised but a small rock falling could very well turn into avalanche. You saw how they mined straight into the wall, weakening the whole structure of the mine

Royal peacock in nevada is a perfect place to dig opal without getting in a cave and it's some of the best black opal you'll ever see

People lived in them opal mines. Most now live above ground.
Many still do in Coober. I've been in some quite nicely-furnished ones.

That material is quite precarious. Opals form is such a delicate environment. Essentially being silica,water,mud and sometimes other "impurities". Being underground in those fields,as much as I wish to be,it still makes me heart pound. Potch also makes up at least 80ish % of the opals found in these mines,which is why fiery opal is highly valued...And I love both. The labor,the intensity,the risk,the not so rare moments of serious excitement. I would be squealing slightly if was in that situation,but also yes..running for meh life like they did.

Im no mining expert but have lived in a few opal mining towns in QLD and yes d dinosaur bones are discovered too including opalised dinosaur bones.
