@@CASWoodcraft Hopefully one day I’ll be able to graduate to a big boy lathe myself. I bought a 10x18 harbor freight lathe to learn and see if it was something I would like and stick with. Now it’s been 3 years. It’s safe to say that I enjoy it. lol. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get a Laguna, which I consider the best you can own and use, but I’ll certainly get something bigger.
This bowl turned out nice. I am intrigued by your technique, i.e., the use of compression clamps and the oven. I am hoping you will respond to the requests of others regarding the kitchen oven treatment. Thank you!!!
Thanks. I was the guy who came up to you at church. Lived in Illinois when I subscribed to you. Now live in Franktown. Am also the brother in law of James who had an aspen cut down maybe six months ago. I am hoping that the aspen on this video was from him because i have some of the same wood too. Can''t believe how beautiful it is. Can't wait to work with it.@@CASWoodcraft
Now that's a challenge and a half! The Laguna did squeal a tad but she's a keeper and stood up to the beast. Well done mate!
thanks for the kind words!
Beautiful piece and very well shot! I felt the pacing of this video was one of your best!
thanks Dave!
That was cool video and the bowl very attractive
It’s so beautiful! I love your style, it’s very appealing to me. I wish it were mine! ❤
Thank you so much!
If a piece of wood is big enough to make a Laguna lathe drive belt squawk, you know it’s heavy. Nice work man.
True that.

Love the grain pattern on that one.
it had a lot more interesting elements than I expected in the grain

Thank you!!!
I put it in at 170 for about 12 hours. The compression clamps seem to help avoid splits.
@CASWoodcraft Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the process. I am going to see if I can have some success.
Very nice. Thanks for commenting on your drying process.
Как здорово! 👍
Какое это дерево?
В духовке какая температура? Время сушки?
Чем трещины замазываете?

@@CASWoodcraft Благодарю! 🤝
Nice bowl! What was that product you used for the cracks and endgrain filler? Looks like it cured with UV light?
thanks! yes, that was Crystal Clear UV Resin
I didn't know how beautiful aspen wood is. How long did you keep this in the oven and what temperature?
lowest I could go was 170 and I kept it there overnight

Looks nice. How long did it take start to complete? What did you use to fill the chip-outs?
I probably had about 2 hours of time on the lathe. chipper were filled with Crystal Clear UV Resin
Nice piece!
Did you find that the 12 hours in the oven was enough? Or, does it still want to move?
it was bone dry after 12 hours. it shrank quite a bit too
Nice job! Aspen is beautiful wood. Too bad it doesn’t smell nicer.
You got that right!
I wish turning vids had no fast forwarding through the actual turning. I want to see tool presentation.
Did you check the moisture content after having it in the oven. Honey, why do my cookies taste of rotting wood.
it was down to about 3%
