If Mitakeumi worked that way all the time he'd be up there with them. I'm hoping he can regain his confidence. I was really happy and surprised to see Shodai become an Ozeki. He's one of those guys you feel suffered from being bullied (not just by Hakuho). To see him be successful, was really great. I know his rope tactics are physically risky but they are fun. I hope that he can continue to learn new tricks.
@@MarsofAritia Maybe some people are late bloomers. Shodai is 29 and, hopefully, he will continue to develop his mental toughness. As an example, George Foreman reclaimed the heavy weight boxing title at 45. Big George credited his second title to mental toughness he didn't have as a younger champion 20 years earlier.
Shodai has the "look" of a yokozuna. He also is passionate about sumo which makes him one of my top picks. Asanoyama disappointed with his lax approach to training and his ozeki rank and Takakeisho just seems too one sided to be a real Yokozuna contender. Bright future for Shodai if he sands off the rough edges a bit.
It's not fair that the Ref was in the way to prevent Shodai's ability to maybe have recovered. Maybe Ref's need a class on how to "get out of the way"! Just saying.

Shodai's always have been my favorite since I began watching and closely following sumo in 2018.
I really think Shodai will be the next Japanese yokozuna. He just needs a stronger mindset.
