    Good thing the ref stopped it, because Shamrock turned his back and knelt down and was about to get destroyed by Sakuraba.

    Shamrock totally bailed on the fight, ref probably stopped it early but didn’t really have a choice with Shamrock choosing to hide in the ropes.

      I always wanted to see Rickson Gracie fight Sakuraba. Rickson was the best all around fighter the Gracies family had, not saying much in terms of striking..but i think it would have been an awesome grappling match that sakaruba would eventually win by strikes.

      @@jessehardin2189 You can see at 4:41 the ref didnt stop the fight right away, he gave him time before stopping, Shamrocks right arm was outside the ropes, his left arm was just dangling there not defending himself from strikes. At 4:51 you can see Shamrock eating two more hooks from Sakuraba before the ref stepped in. The ref didnt stop the fight from the flash ko but from Shamrock being unable to defend himself any longer, he didnt even use his left arm to cover himself from strikes.

    Sakuraba is the smartest fighter I ever saw. He just seemed to come up with things as he went along. Opening and options no one had seen or tried before. Kind of the way Napoleon and Alexander the Great are said to have read a battlefield and been able to make adjustments no one else at the time could do. Imo, this ability is what made him able to defeat so many fighters, especially the Gracies, who fought with an adherence to a system.

      I loved the way he faked kicks and jump attacks. Shamrock came out aggressive and by the two minute mark was fighting defensively; unsure of what to expect. Sakuraba had a Marciano-like approach in his strikes, forget the jabs, just crouch low, calculate and set up for the meaningful punches.

    Stopped too early? I don't know, maybe...My comment is for Sakuraba. He never got the credit he deserved, IMO. He was truly one of the greatest fighters who ever lived. Ken is often obnixious and makes excuses and should have retired 20 years ago but in his prime he was an absolute monster. Anyone who says otherwise either hasn't watched him fight in Pancrase/early UFCs or is an dipshit. Great wrestling that was well suited for MMA, amazing submissions, monstrously strong and quite athletic. The difference between him and Frank is that Frank actually sought to evolve by studying BJJ and kickboxing extensively instead of being stubborn and pig-headed like Ken. Still, calling Ken untalented is stupid. He was by far the better athlete.

      Kagemusha08 absolutely and it’s important to remember how beat up ken got when he was in the wwf he tore his acl after the fujita fight in 2000 to so he lost a lot of his upper body and leg strength. The hilarious irony that some people seem to be missing here is that, if it'd been Sakuraba who'd been dropped and had turned away, Ken would've had to knock him completely unconscious, then hit him about another 20 consecutive times before the Pride refs would even think of stopping the fight. Saku always got special treatment, very often to his own detriment.

    I think the fight was stopped way to early ..... the reason why because what shamrock did was exactly what he did to royce Gracie and they never stopped the fight shamrock got caught so he was using the ropes so the ref would call a reset .. that's why he popped his head up so fast and was perfectly fine as he approached the ref .. i mean its there clear as day but a win is a win no matter how you get it at the end of the day

  • @rivera8709
    @rivera8709 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ken was indeed Rocked but he was probably dropping down to grab a leg for a knee Bar' you turn your back drop and grab the leg and extend, being close to the corner and rope of course its not gonna be effective, but the idea is to tie up and have the ref stop and reposition the fighters.
    It's no different then when I guy takes a shot standing and gets rocked' " usually what he does is try and close the distance buy Shooting down for a leg or tying up the arms into a clentch, So he can recollect himself. If you look closely you'll see Ken is very aware of what's going on and stands up without staggering.. Yes a couple of more clean shots would have finished him but these are Professionals that have proved the their skills to be there. The ref should of let it go a lil longer. I respect both fighters..

    • @EdgeOfEntropy17
      @EdgeOfEntropy17 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see it. There is no way Ken was on the offensive there. He was ducking and running because he was hurt. He had no intention of grabbing a leg for a knee bar.
