Yep, close match, but Royce controlled most of the grappling as well as landed the most strikes. Sakuraba had the devestating knee shots from clinch and was the aggressor. Slight advantage to Royce still.
There's absolutely *nothing* wrong with Sakuraba's right knee. As a matter of fact it's very probably stronger than his left. You can see in all his fights that he not only kicks predominantly with his right but he also absorbs *a lot* of punishment to it. Throughout his whole career and all the matches I've seen he's always banded his right knee. *Sun Tzu's art of war. YOU* con your enemy into thinking *'he'* figured out where to attack *LOL*
He was a southpaw, probably because of his wrestling background. The front leg was his shooting leg and after a lifetime of going for takedowns off of that leg, he probably just wanted to prevent injuries or maybe to make sudden level changes easier. But yeah, he never really seemed to have actual issues with that knee.

That was at the height of the Gracie name being pushed through the US. I think some big money was changing hands. My brother's law enforcement training school was even changing to BJJ.
@@papadjrowe I might have worded that wrong. Their name got bigger through the years, but it was exploding at that time. I guess I should say that it was when it was the new "Did you hear about?" topic.
This fight is meaningless without context. Royce was the first true jiu jitsu expert in the UFC and he was destroying everyone. Sakuraba was the first to really beat him with his thai kickboxing, and from that day on, anyone worth their salt in the UFC was trained in both Thai kickboxing and brazilian jiu jitsu. Also, imagine how BA Gracie was, he agreed to an unlimited length fight against someone. Fighting for 25 minutes straight is more exertion than most of us can posssibly imagine. Also, even after his leg was broken, he was willing to keep fighting. His laying on his back is actually an advantageous position given his BJJ training. He'd beaten an incredible number of people before by doing exactly that. He knows countless submissions for every limb from every position. Yes, he lost, but he lost well. And Sakuraba was a beast and an incredible fighter to beat him.
Saku won the standup game and did more damage and forced Royce to shoot. Sakuraba caught about every attempt and the ones he didn't he ended in a dominant position. How you could judge a win for Gracie is crazy to me. Even in the clinch Sakuraba escaped or reversed it on Gracie even getting a take down on one. This 100% was fixed lol
fights now have time limits and everyone trains Jiu jitsu so it's a lil different. the overall strategy of defense and allowing your opponent to make a mistake does work for fighting however...
akshay satish I totally respect grappling. I was just pointing out that laying on the ground from the get go is not how fighting works. I would then just walk away and wait.
akshay satish fighting needs to be efficient. Could you go also for the kill? The military in many countries include Martial arts that use just couple of contacts to break the neck. I know many people glorify special army forces but all they say is that they are also just human beings who cannot just kill you by staring you down. I just want to know whether their combat system can really kill people in a fight of life and death. There is one thing to win an MMA Fight but to fight to survive and kill is another.
I like his fighting style. It is not about win or loses, it is about how to put energy in fights. It is about to be the best... but your best, improve every day, every battle, step by step. Training hard :) Saku is my favorite fighter.

Anyone who has followed Royce through the years can tell just by looking at him here that he was on steroids. Royce has never appeared to has any sort of muscle on his body but he clearly has a more built upper body here.
He's not even that built. Sure he's muscular as in athletic muscular but he doesn't look like a freak on steroids. Being muscular doesn't=bodybuilder. Mike Tyson, or Dwayne Johnson, Brock Lesnar look more like they might use steroids. Even A lot of guy's that are 6'0" at a ripped 190 to 200 pound's aren't usually on steroids cuz even those weights aren't freakishly muscular. A lot of guy's that are 6'0" that workout can get to those weights naturally. It's the guys that are like 220 pounds and heavier that might be on steroids but not always. Some guys like Samoans have naturally huge Muscles. Dwayne Johnson is Samoan and he probably doesn't use steroids cuz a lot of Samoans even tho most of them look fat are built like guy's like the rock underneath all that fat. 6'0" 190 pounds to 200 pounds is a mesomorph build which is in between ectomorph and endomorph which makes mesomorph a average build. Of course most guy's aren't a ripped 6'0" 190 to 200 pounds unless they workout but for guy's that workout that's a pretty average weight if you ever seen the average healthy guy not a musclehead at the gym. The big muscle heads at the gym are way way heavier than 190 to 200 pounds. Nowadays since guy's having big muscles isn't attractive to women anymore so guy's don't care as much about trying to be the size of the hulk guys that are even slightly muscular are considered huge to people cuz most guy's are going for the Justin Bieber, lil Wayne, or Tyga look cuz the skinny tattooed lean rapper guy is the guy's girls like nowadays. Girl's like guy's that are punky looking or boyish looking nowadays. Back when the emo trend was popular when I was in highschool (I'm 31 years old now that was years ago) all the girls liked the skinny emo boy. Girl's aren't as much into the big muscular country boy with thick muscular forearms and big muscular callased hands anymore. Royce Gracie is only in the 170s in weight. I forget his exact weight but it's in the 170s and he's 6'1". A person doesn't have to be huge to use steroids so their is a lot of athlete's out there you can't tell by looking at them they're on steroids. Royce Gracie may be on steroids but that doesn't mean you can tell he's on steroids just by looking at him cuz he's not freakishly muscular. There's A lot of Olympic sprinter's that take steroids but most sprinter's even if they are really muscular usually are only in the 170s to 190s in weight at 6'0" 6'1" to 6'2" in height cuz they need enough muscle mass to be explosive and fast but not so much muscle it slows them down. Even tho sprinter's don't look like bodybuilders a lot of people would assume every really muscular sprinter they see is on steroids cuz being skinny or having a average dad body is the norm nowadays. Even if there are a lot sprinter's on steroids that doesn't mean just cuz a sprinter is a little muscular and ripped he's on steroids. Cuz people are so use to seeing skinny muscular guy's like Justin Bieber people forget what a real man's build looks like. A real man's build is that country boy with muscular thick forearms with muscular callased dirty greasy hand's and thick finger's. I never thought the day would come when people thought guys like lil Wayne, or Justin Bieber. The media keeps mentioning how much more muscular Justin Bieber is now than when he was a teenage boy but to be honest he still has a skinny teenage boy body just with some muscles but he still looks skinny.
The 10 punches Gracie threw in the corner saved him for the judges card. Otherwise the judges would have exposed themselves to have been bought. That and steriods was a sad day for the Gracie legacy.

Grande Sakuraba!
The 10 punches Gracie threw in the corner saved him for the judges card. Otherwise the judges would have exposed themselves to have been bought. That and steriods was a sad day for the Gracie legacy.
What a joke..... Gracie with the stand up rear mount and gentle hold again as the crowd boo's and the ref calls for action for the 15 time. What a joke 🙄 I don't get it at all???
Royce: Mad at Eddie Bravo for using weed.
Also Royce: Takes steroids.
Whats with this story? Weed doesnt give advantage to fight
How in a hell that's win for Gracie? It is a shame. Respect for Sakuraba.
the Gracies write all the rules for their fights
I use this fight, and
Kazushi Sakuraba's record as proof that the gracies are protected and MMA is as fake as anything else
Yuppppp. Facts
quite correct, gracie did not win in fact his performance was poor
Heretic
Yip fake as:

How can royce win this fight? he was humilliated
They are a mafia you know....
He was with roids also Royce !!!
🤓🤓
He may have walked away with the W but Sakuraba clearly was better.
Chora muito
Humilhado onde? A maior quantidade de golpes nitidos ele quem desferiu
Man, i havent seen this full fight in years. Nothing better than watching Sakuraba take a Gracie down a notch..
Wow how embarrassing its all over Gracie's face he knows he lost this fight but because of his family they gave him the win...
The fight that coined the new name "Roid" Gracie.
Lol. So true
Is it also spoken Hoid? 😄

This video came out in 2009. I respect the continued viewing of such legends.
Kron Gracie would destroy Kazushi Sakuraba. Come on now.
Rickson would eat sakuraba alive
None of it! SAKURABA lost to Ralek Gracie! th-cam.com/video/eAch-TiMois/w-d-xo.html
Kron would probably own Sakuraba. Especially since Sakuraba is super old nowadays and Kron is young and amazing.
Nessa luta o Rudmar estava no corner do Sakuraba?
I like how in an interview before the first fight Royce said something along the lines of “look how much I weigh. I’m 74kg” he loses the first fight. Takes the second clearly roided out lmao. Much honor in the Brazilian sport eh?
You’re already beat, when you have to cheat.

Royce the steroids cheater

Christ’s Chin So true. I've been saying it about Jon Jones for years.
Royce lost that fight from the opening bell until the end. Total rip off.
BS. Royce won from start to finish. Rickson would have wrecked Sak so Pride never let the fight happen. Blamed Rickson's salary demands. Sak admitted it in Grappling Mag. interview.
I guess the peple who are claiming royce lost from start to finish didnt watch the same fight i did if it went a minute or to longer who knows but all i so was gracie scoring points
Did you not see how many hits he got in what
@@gerrylee4141 did u watch the fight from another dimension or what!
Gerry Lee I think you are from another planet, because Royce didn’t won this fight
It’s so funny to imagine a modern day 170lber fighting Royce Gracie like this.
I imagine Leon Edwards would headkick him out nowhere and one shot KO Royce
How can you win on your back?
U don't ...its just a backward world we live in now. Smh.!! Just like men with men and women with women, just crazy !
Yeah all judges must be bought!!
Sakuraba has dominated all rounds 🙄
Sakuraba Really Won..The crowd's response showed that. Gracies carry power in the fighting world and often win fight decisions even though they clearly got beat by opponent
@@matooleyobrien2918 The crowd my ass! Did u even watch this or did u fast forward through to parts? I watched the whole thing. Gracie clearly won. He was offensive from the beginning to the end. Other dude was more counter. He landed a couple good strikes, but Gracie rode throught hem and dominated, from his back, where he usually always did. I actually just watched this becasue of the comments and once again, I learn why not to listen to the majority. U wanna see an actual good clear as day Gracie loss (draw actually but, u be the judge...) watch Royce and Eddie at metamorphosis 3...
@@beyondquestion No bro a knock down in the first round plus actually moves towards submission each round compared to what, a weak attempt at going for the leg and pushing him against the ropes with no successful attempts at gaining submission position. Gracie lost this without question he's just too good at slipping submissions. I think both guys fought well its probably should have been a draw. just personal opinion though ;)
he lost 1st round :D
and he lost the 2nd round :D
After all this time...royce still fighting likes its ufc 1.
Would it have killed him to learn how to throw a punch?
Yeah, throw a punch against a guy who's called the Gracie Killer as he's the hard counter to your fighting style, what's the worst that could happen? Oh right, we see what happens when he tries to close in at 4:00.
Royce knew he didn't stand a chance trading blows with Sakuraba. He can punch and kick,(non-sport BJJ has punches and kicks) but is not on Sakuraba's level, being in his 40s.

I'm a big fan of the gracie's and have huge respect for what they did to pioneer the sport.... but this decision is a shining example of the corruption that exists.

Why is the crowd booing? and more importantly why is the ref shouting come on action? I'd like to see if anyone in that arena including the ref would last 20 secs against any one of these two absolute legends.
The Sad thing is I can't find any of Fights of when Gracie was in his absolute Prime. Sakurba II came in 2003 and the Shamrock ended with a draw.

Even without the failed drug test, he clearly lost the fight lmao
Why? Seems like Gracie got in way more strikes, kicks and knees. Sure, Sakuraba's strikes seemed more effective but there were so few of them.
@@ThePopsers Royce was dominated on the flow and barely hit saku. Just because he’s swinging doesn’t mean he’s actually hitting. And just standing there throwing knees for 1 minute doesn’t give you points like that. Also saku knocked Gracie in the first round

Royce was defensive from the start fighting to regain position eighty percent of the time and lost every single round.
Royce and Sakuraba had a rematch in 2007 in K-1 Dynamite!! USA, where Royce defeated Sakuraba by a unanimous decision. However, Royce tested positive for steroids after the fight, and his win was overturned to a no contest. This tarnished his legacy and reputation among MMA fans

Never knew the gracies had respect. Royce has always fought like a bitch, choking people with a gi, slapping like a girl, and pulling hair like the bitch he is.
@@wololo__ Only difference being Graci choked people with his own Gi, that standard practice or?
Royce isn't a legend of MMA, he's a myth. The only time he has ever been a real force in fighting was when absolutely no one knew his style.
Go do what he does, then talk shit.
You mean go back in time and fight using Jujitsu that only I and my family knew? Win a few tournaments and then proceed to talk shit and fight washed up legends of the sport as an old man? Sure. Just let me get on that.
Can't forget to use some of those steroids to help get the job done.
Yeah, bjj was a mystery in the old days of mma. The sport has evolved and one can no longer be one dimensional. Royce in his prime would get his ass whoop by current B level fighter.
He changed the landscape of the sport with his dominance. He is absolutely a legend and pioneer of the sport. He is the reason the sport evolved and we now have fighters cross training in multiple arts. You are a dumbass.
Awww..Royce had finally won one against the Legendary Sakuraba yet he failed his post fight drug test shaming himself. Curiously the record was never corrected to a no-contest.
Yeah the fight happened before California had the rules to make it a no contest
@@coachmikesfilmroom3111why would they test if they would do nothing about it?
@flowrepins6663 the sport was newer at the time the csac already had drug testing in place for other sports, bit as far as mma, didn't have policies in place yet for a positive test post fight.
There is no way that Royce won this fight unless the judges were blindfolded and paid off? Sakuraba was dominant in all aspects of striking, wrestling and ground. Royce on the other hand fought like a random dude who apparently has never practiced punches or kicks. We would expect that fighters would improve upon their weak points but this embarrassing performance showed us the opposite. Unbelievable
Just like his first fight with sakuraba
