The idea of monkey rider symbiosis is such a novel detail. The niche partitioning was also really interesting. Love the way you’re integrating such core biological concepts here.
My one thought is that the current lineup of herbivorous dragons are small, gracile creatures. I’d love to see some tanky herbivorous dragons that adapt their fire to aid digestion of denser, woodier plants. This world is so inspiring!
Keenan did an interesting thing where the dragons only got big after humans domesticated them, after the society that domesticated them collapsed the dragons turned on their masters and now hunt humans.
Keenan is a master of worldbuilding, I loved his explanation
I do not know this Keenan elaborate please 🙏
@@crimsonshadowjj7935Keenan Taylor’s Tales of Kaimere is both a series of books and a speculative evolution project on TH-cam. Dragons aren’t the main focus of the project but they do have a pair of videos they appear in as a focus.
H
Sorry I should’ve specified that the link I sent was the link to Keenan’s channel. sorry for looking like a bot ‘._.`
I absolutely LOVE your incorporation of basic phylogenetics into the world! Connecting the species of dragon in convincing, realistic ways just adds so much more immersion to the whole project!
The Hellbasker is still my favorite dragon from a fighting perspective. But this Red Racer is a close, close second in terms of design, and lore. 10/10 dragon!
thanks man!
first video made by a westerner to ever aknowledge the romanian dragon riders, thank you :D
I do my homework, my friend
music a little loud but very very nice video love it
Damn you went above and beyond. The best I could come up with when making a culture of dragon tamers was that the humans let the dragons nest within the city walls, and in return the dragons attack invading armies. Yes that's technically symbiosis not taming, but it's the best thing my setting would reasonably allow
I love the concept and like how you try to make it very different to ASOIF. One thing though, surely the breeding habits would massively change if they insert themselves as the dominant male to domesticate them. Which would then change how they are kept in captivity
1:59 has anyone actually _tried_ to selectively breed zebras for several hundred generations to alter their nature to one that is more mellow and easier to train? Domestication is a very long-term project, and the animals aren't very useful (and even quite dangerous) for most of the way. It took a couple thousand years to get horses to their current state.
Now imagine that with dragons.
Thats why he goes into detail on all the traits needed for domestication and why only some are even conceivably tamed, the red racers are herbivorous grazers with a co-operative social system, similar to horses, but also have a natural and evolutionary symbiosis with the dragonkin monkeys. Meaning most of the work of being accepted by the dragons has already been done for them
Love this culture and their dragons. Your videos are amazing, and I especially love your work. One question: how do they steer the Red Racers?
Basically the same thing with a horse or a camel with a saddle.
I was expecting the red racer to be a mid dragon but holy Jesus you broke my expectations I turned out to like this guy a lot more than I should XD basically the dragopnslayers codex version of British people have dragons now
aye I'm glad I could make the dragon interesting! means a lot man
@@sawyerleeart anytime a lot of my dragon art was inspired by you it’s nowhere near as creative but yea
I agree ( this is not my alt account what are you talking about?
@@Rill862 helllo I’m sure your not my alt account at all
i genuinely put down everything and immediately watch these whenever they come out
Thank you! Means a lot
This is one of my favorite vídeos so far.
hell yeah!
Man this world is so damn cool, as someone currently struggling with their own dragons your designs and in depth behavioural analysis really helps me find what I want in my own designs.
P.S wailing bishop is still the coolest
Damn bro. Really really good
cool as hell! i thought the wing runners would be nomadic, instead they basically treat dragons as bees(create an habitat, give them plenty of food to prevent migration) lol.
The wing runners may have the most potential as they will probably change the dragons with selective breeding. The concept of dragon riding could become way more common in the future!
Awesome video, I really enjoyed the animal sounds for each creature. Now this makes me think about if giants have some sort of relationship with dragons. Nice job
will explore that in the giant videos!
Hey Red Racer, Racer fans it's time for another great day. I like your idea to the hard task of how do I keep a dragon. This one feels like a dragon/horse to me. Really love your ideas and art.
Could you do an explanation video on how dragon vs dragon encounters might go and how different dragons handle confrontation differently?
I’ve heard of a story about this one kid in Scandinavia managed to tame a dragon. I don’t know how well it went for him, it’s just another example that i’ve heard of.
Link?
@@dubuyajay9964 nah, it was a weirder name. Something like Hiccup
@@jandocarrillo2731 No, I want a link.
Possibly a weird question, but could a dragon species, or population, develop a relationship with humans similar to the dolphins helping fishermen? Or are they, well, not on the same level as dolphins? Love this series so much, btw :D i just get random questions popping up
And he delivers another masterpiece
The speed of the red racer, as well as the defense’s of other creatures suggests that there used to be a larger predator. I mean it could Possibly be that the ancestor of the red racer was this predator, but why wouldn’t need to keep it speed if it wasn’t hunting anything? it would be a waste of resources… unless there was another reason for its speed.
Well that hypothetical mysterious dragon eating carnivore is extinct now, but it’s fun to think about!
It coexists with Shearwinter (a speedy ice dragon) and Thundermaw to the south, and a population of Kinsbane and Holdtakers to the east! There is a predator within the hills that will be featured in the future for its own video
@@sawyerleeartAshen Hagwyrm?
Love this! My favorite culture and dragon so far, especially in combination
Great work! A question though, is there not a large predator in the burning fields? I assume it just failed to be mentioned, since otherwise the evolution of the Kanabac and the implications of their horn would be rather confusing.
there is. I'm saving it for another video
@@sawyerleeart cool!
@@sawyerleeart I hope the Apex predator of this environment is not a dragon but rather a large reptile or mammal. It would make sense that there’s probably a giant predatory mammal that outcompeted most dragons. That could be why the red racer became herbivorous. That’s just my hypothesis tho.
@@ej2u545 what about the rib caging capacities mentioned from the Kanabac though? For something lithe which flies alot like a Dragon, a Horn which swings like a battering ram makes complete sense. Compare that to a Mammalian predator who would probably be more resistant and agile, and I don't think the adaptation would be as reasonable.
I love the Kanabac. The big herbivores that can combat dragons. While looking super cool at the same time.
I would probably be the weirdo that would attempt to tame one.
How can the locusts get so big? How have they overcome the limiting factors for size that insects of our Earth have?
I'll be addressing this in a later vid, but essentially the atmosphere is a little thicker here than on our earth- its how dragons fly and how the bug is able to breathe. As for molting, they do it in chunks rather than the whole! like a shed
@@sawyerleeart So there would not be whole locust sheddings, but shedding scarps? So there could be like shedding clothes?
Yet another awesome video. I am ever amazed at the deep level of complex world-building you offer us, so I'm excited to see were the project goes.
a personal love of mine this project of yours.
just beautiful.
This looks good
thanks!
@@sawyerleeartthis was good.
You addressed the previous issues with dragon taming and had a reason for it to work.
I look forward to the next subjects
Bloody Groovy!!! And how can we also forget those stories of Gods, Demigods and Demons riding in chariots pulled by those fabulous chimeric beasts! Literally what HTTYD would look like realistically!! Indeed Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus! xD Intriguing how the concept of herbivorous dragons is currently being highlighted more and more, funny and at the same time coherent considering those guardians of mineral fruits or rodents with milky roots...I adore your every speculative biological detail you put into it, great historical background of domestication to consider and as always fantastic pieces of worldbuilding artwork!! Simply Marvelous love letter of Realistic Epic Fantasy!!!
Aye means a lot man!
this world, the animals, these dragons, it's truly amazing what you've made(can't wait for the new version of the Emerald Bombardier or the Wroughtbelch )
whooooah what a cool world! Im seriously in love with it!
This would make one of the coolest RPG systems ever !!!
I’m currently running a dnd campaign in this setting and it’s been pretty great so far
Question, what happens if the brooding mother doesn't accept his rider? Regardless of that, is nice to see how your channel and project has been growing.
If she doesnt accept, she might hiss or stamp her wings at the child as she would a nest raiding animal in the wild. This is when the overseers step in and calm her down/take the kid out. And thanks man! Im glad yall are liking the videos
WOW, these videos are amazing work. Hey, you know what concept would be cool, that there is a little dragon that is treated like a pet (especially for the rich) but is based on peacocks. A species of dragon with a large sexual dysmorphism between females and males, which uses its beauty to attract females, could be interesting as it could also be combined with the behavior of crows of using shiny things to be more attractive. a dragon that likes to use shiny things to attract females
Absolutely epic, great points given that are so often overlooked! 😃
thanks dude!
A discord server for the dragon slayer codex would be amazing
1:59 Zebras are more closely related to Donkey’s which is why they behave the way they do
Now this one is really cool. I LOVE how sleek & fast it looks. It’s same feeling like when I see Cheetahs and their proportions and build overall is clearly indicates what they are like that to run fast, same with this dragon.
Also yeah, that part about people leaving their children in dragon’s lair for imprinting is kinda really brutal, but effective, I guess? (Although if these dragons are anything like parenting birds, then I really wonder what will happen when it’s time to ”learn how to fly” for juvenile dragons, but there’s also a human child being seen as part of the family, so.. Eh..)
Thank you! I really agonized over getting the design sleek and swift looking! And worry not, when it’s time to fly, they equip with saddles and gear rather than being pushed off a cliff!
It get better and better
Great, now i want a red racer
Out of all dragons I was waiting for this one a herbivorous dragon?? I never would’ve thought
I always like dragons. Fantasy in general, but dragons are what keep me invested. I always disliked the dragon rider trope. Always made dragons out to be just a mode of transport. I’ve struggled to find a good story that depicted dragons related to this video that leaned towards the more feral side of dragons but still retaining the wonder that makes them more than a beast completely driven by instinct.
I’m actually in the process of doing something similar like this myself but it’s gonna take a lot of time.
That's a good world building ❤❤❤
Man, that was amazing! Such an interesting take on the concept of dragon riding and such a cool backstory!
As always I'm left awestruck after each of your videos!
Wow thanks!
Sweeeet, my favorite vid so far
This is so amazingly in depth

Another banger
Banger after banger, hope you have a good day sawyer
means a lot my friend, hope yours rocks too
This is an amazing video dude!
thank you!
As always amazing video and dragon.
Great work.
Like different dog breeds, are there different breeds of red racers? And if there are can you do a video on them?
yes and yes. Theres a sleek speed one, a messenger one, a robust guard one, and the standard breed
@@sawyerleeart that is cool. I'm curios on if there are ones that help with construction on other continents. Like ones that are really robust to help with carrying goods across long distance some what fast. Or even ones that have had there scalding blood spit more potent to help fight other dragons. I cant wait to see a video on it if you do one.
Can you do video on how dragon anatomy effect them, giant pterosaur like azdarchid lost their tail when they got big. But for what i understand pterosaur didn't evolved short tail until they have have the necessary navigation system, making a long tail disadvantageous.
So maybe Dragon didn't have an efficient navigation system so long tail is necessary?.
wow the world of the dragon slayer codex is so variant
This video was well done and as creative as alway! You reaally know how to make a fantasyworld feel alive and grounded. :)
hell yeah dude thanks!
I wonder whether there are other dragons that have the potential to be ridden like Red Racers.
"Do you want to ride a dragon?" me: Sweats
It's very beautiful, really. Art
DRACARYS 🗣🐉🔥🔥🔥🔥
"do you want to ride a dragon"
yes, in a few questionable ways.
Same-wait *W H A T*
Ah I see you are a man of culture as well
*You stare into the abyss and the abyss flinches in disgust.*
i also wanted to ask what if dragons of the same region encounters other dragons aswell similar to the predator territories in real life will, they defend, ward off, fight to the death, or just pass by each others?
This project is "How to train your dragon" for big boys.
Quite like the design of the racers their silhouette being similar to that of a frigate bird. The Kanabac though I’m in love with since its first appearance. It gave me the inspiration needed to polish the design of my own speculative brontotheres. The question really intriguing me is who they evolved such impressive defences for? I mean it couldn’t be for the racers and it’s unlikely those are the only species of dragon in the area.
There’s a few large dragons such as the occasional Holdtaker! The dedicated predator of the area I’ll be showing soon
Red racers remind me so much of Toothless. I think it's because of their silhouette.
I would like to ask how other cultures reacted when they first started interacting with horsemen?
Love the red racer.
4:33. I hope these locusts don't reach biblical proportions.
I am curious what predatory Dragons live in the Burning Hills?
7:32 I hear some JP T. rex roars!
Monkeys riding dragons?! Well now I see where these people got their inspiration to ride Dragons. Also, what family of Monkeys are these Dragonkin monkeys? Same group as Macaques?
Thundermaw, Shearwinter, and rare populations of both Holdtakers and Great Kinsbane can be found here! (The latter in more mountainous areas). And I dont doubt the jp rex roar was used in that sound! I mostly use and edit stock sfx haha
As someone who's watched Jurassic films a lot, and related media using them, I recognize those sounds anywhere.
most Flying animals eat either fruit or meat And those widget grass or leaves are usually sluggish and fly rarely
Geese have entered the chat.
new dragon can't wait
If the Dragonslayer Codex has a main protagonist it should be a female Wing-Runner individual who goes by the "Viva" (voiced by Camila Cabello). Now to make it easier to identify who she is was simple. She is 27 years old, She looks similar to Poppy and has an identical face, although she instead has blond curly hair, unruly like their father, with one lock of her hair hanging down on the right side of her face like a fringe, and pink and yellow sparkling makeup on her ridged cheeks facial marking. She is slightly taller than Poppy when compared to her.
As an outfit, Viva wears a white leotard with golden-colored trim and a pink star with golden trim on the chest. She has red leg warmers with pink lozenges on them. Sometimes she wears a green cape made of Bermuda grass, although she ditches the cape after reconciling with Poppy and getting in touch with the outside world again.
Her past appearance isn't shown or unknown, but she was known to have worn a Hug-Time Friendship Bracelet that her father Peppy had given to Poppy.
Her dragon, "Cirrus" (voiced by ) is a very intelligent, shy, cute, reserved, loyal and sweet female Read Racers Dragon (Hemoinfernus Gracilis) who is Viva & Poppy's best friend. She possesses a tendency to drop her tail when she is sad, rattle her spines and crown scales when she is scared of speaking up or fright. She may occasionally come across as slightly insecure and uncertain, and is prone to worrying a lot, especially about making a mistake. However, Cirrus is distinguished by her kind heart and maternal sweetness, primarily as a result of her responsibilities as an older sister and babysitter to a myriad of younger siblings. Cirrus is wildly earnest and optimistic and steadfast and has a very big heart💜💖. Cirrus also is characterized by her color combination of Vermillion Red, along with orange and pink speckles in some areas. Cirrus knows just about everything there is to know about the continents and has a deep love of fairytale & folklore, both stemming from her love of reading, as well as being an amazing singer and dancer. Her oval-shaped Charoite stone pendant necklace glows when she feels confident and believes in herself (she also has a dragon tooth pendant necklace from her grandmamah). The two were made for each other and she sees Cirrus as a special friend for life. Cirrus saddle is mostly a beige color with white and gold highlights with a holding harness, belt straps, feet holder on each side and storage containers in the back. They fly through the sky and see everything throughout the continents. Cirrus feeds on her favorite treat, fresh Blueberries🫐 either eating it from a twig branch or in a bowl or as a Yogurt or Baked Pie🥧. She has coffee☕with hazelnut cream & sugar with a Glazed Twisted Doughnut in the early mornings. For dinner she feeds on steamed White Rice🍚 and Chanterelle Mushrooms 🍄 (also for dinner Viva & Cirrus feast on a very special Hibachi Japanese Clear Soup 🍲). She also feeds on Vanilla Pudding, Pistachios for a midday snack. Cirrus even sings and dances to Viva's favorite song she wrote and performed "It Takes Two" along with her sister Poppy, her boyfriend Branch and his brothers, making their special friendship brighter.
One day she'll be a good friend to her rider future niece "Ivy".
@sawyerlee needs to add thus!! #dragonslayerckdex NEEDS this!!! Troll on sister!🎉

RED RACER MY BOY
Another banger video as always
Where do u get most of the audio? The monkey sounds was a gibbion anyway
Positive comment
Would this society be advanced enough for in vitro fertilization of female dragons or is there some other way around them getting them to breed but the owners still acting as the dominant dewlapped male?
Sorry artificial insemination was the word I was looking for its really early here lol
damn this is good
We need the sunscourge next pleek!!
What happens to young dragon riders that are rejected by brooding Red Racers? Are they just left to be killed in the enclosure? Or are there any safety mechanisms to make sure the child gets out alive?
They’re pulled out by a hatch, floorboard opening up, or the dragon is netted in
We need a video on Dream works Dragon riders of berk vs codex dragons in a one vs one
If HTTYD was more like the Dragonslayer codex then the entire human cast (including the human villains) would have all be barbecued like brisket or sausages!
I WANT TO RIDE A DRAGON!!!!
Is there any dragons that gave up flight for a different benefit?
Do gun powder wepons exist? Assume that whoud make most dragons easier to kill
Hey sawyer, do you have a planned release date for the codex?
0:58 was this whole sequence just you taking a steaming 💩 on Httyd taming logic?(if so, it was hilarious)
How did monkeys evolve in your setting?
Did they evolve from baby giants like humans or are giants just really big monkeys?
The latter! Giants are hominids that descend from forest apes in the past
Wait what about them fighting other dragons?
How would a dragon vs dragon battle look like?
question, how much weight can the red racers carry?
I was wondering the same thing. I would assume 300 pound max.
As the reply stated, rarely can they carry more than 300 lbs. They need to remain as light as possible to take full advantage of their aerial prowess!
I must ask, how do Wingrunners view Drakoners who have non-Racer mounts, such as the woman who owns Grinner the Gaping Kilnneck?
With great intrigue! and a dash of judgement. Grinner, as a Kilnneck, has the capacity to bite or burn when too many people are about. think along the lines of him being a tamed monitor lizard vs the more horse-like Red Racer- much more risk!
@@sawyerleeart Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the info!
RED BASEDER!!!
does the Racer native range crosses with more hostile dragons?
Yes. They come into contact with Tassled Thundermaw & Shearwinter to the south, and Great Kinsbane (rarely) along with Holdtakers to the east
6:16 cool name like it
I can't find Scholomanari Storm Bringers on TH-cam. Only Scholomance School. 😞

@sawyerleeart What are they though? Scholomance graduates?
Just how many kinds of dragons are their in your world that can be tamed and ridden

Me love dragon
Cool dragons, but what eats dragons and other herbivores that lives in the Burning Hills?
the only thing that could eat a Red Racer - that i know of - is the Kinsbane.
it lives wherever it pleases, and eats other dragons. as for the other animals, i have no idea.
Holdtakers, Shearwinter, and occasionally Thundermaw can take them. A dedicated predator I’ll be showing soon
