pyrotechnics like flares are highly illegal (up to 5 years in jail), but our fans outsmarted authorities and they are not pussies. They do what they want, their stand= their rules.
The short version is that "we" as hometeam fans try to intimidate the opposing team and play mindgames with them as well as showing our team support... As soon as you put your colors on and go to the arena/stadium you are a brotherhood connected to the team...
@16:07 lol... a lot of "older" stadiums in Europe are located in neighbourhoods. Newer stadiums usually farther away. People in those neighbourhoods are in love with the game and don't mind anything. As long as their house is not set on fire, which normally doesn't happen. These people are thrilled with any game

Your born with it, it goes through generations of family and area your from it's not corporate it was founded from grass roots that's the difference the songs are deeply embedded in society
At my club Rangers (Glasgow) we have songs we sing that have been sung for a 100 years like "Billy Boys" we have a songbook of maybe 400 songs, chants that get used and pretty much the whole stadium knows them off by heart. West Ham's main song "Im forever blowing bubbles" was penned in 1918.
every club have thousands of chants we all know just because we are going to the matches, we learn it just by going there and also we pass it through generations.
It's ok to call it soccer, afterall it was used IN ENGLAND Linguistically creative students at the University of Oxford in the 1880s distinguished between the sports of “rugger” (rugby football) and “assoccer” (association football). The latter term was further shortened to “soccer” (sometimes spelled “socker”), and the name quickly spread beyond the campus.
Your sports stays just sport or a hobby. Football is life here. You rep your town and your favourite team. We support our home. The places we were born and bred. I can say my team are shit but if our oppositions fans say that. Its on bro.
As an example, here in Portugal, the big 3 (3 biggest clubs in the country) have chants genuenly older than a century, and we just learn cause its passed down from generation to generation
Skip the highlights and give "funniest football chants" a go. Like you said, the atmosphere and the chanting in the stadium are what makes us fall in love with our team. The games are a bonus.
I hear on every video an american sais :" waw flares / fire / no way etc " or something like this . I am amazed that a country full off guns & with the right to buy them from every were they are in awww about flares😂😂😂. How? A flare is nothing compare to a gun, a flare .
In my city in Romania, they have a stadium in the centre city and they have games there and concerts l,they host a really big concer similar to Tomorrowland, and it last till 6, 7 sometimes 9 am so the whole night there is very very loud music , electronic , you name it, people rented their houses to make money and escape the madness 😂
In Europe, football is our religion. The stadium is our temple, the players are our gods, and the game is the religious service. Normally, you are a fan of your home team, and when you are born, your parents teach you the songs and hymns, and then, when your children and grandchildren are born, you teach them to them as soon as you are born. Another difference with the USA (America is the continent, not your country) is that fans go to all of our team's games when they play at home, and to as many as we can when they play in other cities or even in other countries. Also, every year the teams create new songs.
I do have friends that aren't as much into sports, but love their first 🏈 experience, because it's way less aggressive and more like a feel good event. Not saying one of it is better, just different.

Much love from the DC area lol, and yeah like some other comments said, politics is very tied into football in europe and around the world, you see and hear a lot of times fans calling UEFA, the European football governing body, corrupt, and with good reason.
it isnt American Arrogance Soccer was a term used in the UK during the 50`s and 60`s and countries that had their own version called it Soccer like Australia and Canada
Before 50s and 60s, if i remember correct its from 1800s sometime. Dont forget south africa (New Zealand recently changed from soccer to fotball if i remember correct).
I'm in my 8th decade in London and have been brought up with milder forms of this since 1962 These stadiums are All Seater yet few fans sit down and Americans on TH-cam came to watch Spurs in London and were drinking and then noticed that the endless fans who WERE drinking were all in the crowd to greet the teams and they were, LITERALLY, the only ones there. The crowds are, heavily, segregated which is the only reason you might see some empty seats separating the 2 sets of fans. Fans sing on their way to the Stadium, before and during the whole game and ,often, afterwards. Most teams have 40 or 50 songs that they could sing but are, usually, associated with one song. Countries vary but some crowds are 99% Male....
