I don't think it will work for wide items like engines.. to clear the gate you need the arm all the way out, but once you swing it arm hits the far side of the bed walls. Would have to remove the tailgate to work
Idk if you're still doing this channel, but thank you so much for this video!!! I was so frustrated after buying this crane and trying to install it! You're design and vid was excellent!
Finally, this vid shows how to brace it right. So many others install theirs and have to do it over and still its not braced enough. Thanks for sharing.
@@quickspoolgarage Checked it out ! Im about to install mine except I have a Toyota Tundra, I can only fit 1 cross brace being my spare tire cradle is in the way but maybe I can just use a 2x3 or 2x4
Don't normally comment on videos, but you did an excellent job! Straight to the point and great work all around. My friend sent me this as he has MS and wants me to install so he can use the lift for a wheel chair. Will just replicate and save me some extra thinking time, lol. Keep it up.
Love the braces, maybe overkill but I would do the exact same thing. Better overkill than dangerous. Bravo, I feel better now installing mine, this is the best vid iv'e seen. TY.
I did something similar but i mounted mine by my wheel well. I only had an inch of room under the bed so i used a piece of 1" plate 13"x45" across the wheel arch of the frame along with 3/4" gussets and it doubles as gooseneck hitch. I also added a winch and a shiev pulley 2:1 to help slow down the winch speed and make it easier on the winch motor as well. Next step for mine is to add a 12v hydraulic jack for the boom height.
A long arm jack would be more useful to get the boom up with a load and clear the truck bed. A hand winch on it would be another useful addition. Nice job reinforcing the bed. Too many people actually believe the advertising and just install it. A good way to trash your bed.
I need to do this. Would you explain how you got access.. removing the lights, or whatever. I just looked under the truck to see if there was a way to get to it from the underside, but it did not look like one could. And, thank you. Great video.
Super easy unbolt the fuel nozzle neck usually 3-4 screws, remove the torx bolts holding the bed to the frame, and unplug the main harness to the taillights most of the time it’s right behind the spare tire.
The mount seems good but i don't see how its usable. You cant pick up that engine and place it in the bed as it will hit the side of the bed. you cant go shorter on the arm for more capacity because it wont clear the tailgate. you'd have to add a winch to make this useful.
Can you get the crane high enough to put the engine on the bed tho?? Was thinking of getting one for loading welder but it seems like it doesn’t have the reach
Metal square tubing along inside of the edge of the frame, you know he'll I don't know 3/4 ft to the front you know so it's pulling on them back now. Then they're pissed it really is you know if you're pulling off the back and I'm pulling off of sideways so it's just going to rock that over and roll it over to bring weight to it but he needs a lateral link to the bed front-to-back
There’s no way that brace is gonna hold 1000 pounds it’s still depends on the trucks bed floor which it will crack if brace was under the frame would made more sense never weld to the frame of any vehicle
You need a bigger crane, this is basically only useful for 500lb loads as the boom needs to be extended all the way. On top of that there isn't much room to lift larger objects. Useful, but not as useful as it could have been for the same amount of effort.
Best version of this build I have seen
Thanks I really appreciate it.
How about uploading a continuation of the video, showing the engine actually being loaded into and out of the bed ?
Will do as soon as I finish the upgraded winch, thanks
Guess it didn't make it into the bed. How's it doing, do u still have it in the truck?

Great brackets i think i will try that on my old dodge. I like how it ties into both frame rails.

Thanks, check out my other updated crane video.

Good video, thanks! What are the dimensions of the base plate?
Man your a youtube natural.. This channel is gonna blow up!

Good job; great idea on the bracing. Darlington, South Carolina

Thanks Bud, I’ve added a winch and pedestal to rest the boom. Video coming soon.

That's a well done job sir. When did you say that I could bring you mine to do? 😂😂😂
Hey mate I jusy want to say thankyou for such a detailed video. Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
i loved the bracket you built

Looks solid man. Will be doing a DIY build on mine

Thanks I’m installing a winch new vid comin soon.
Harbor freight sells one with a cable winch on it as well but it was about $60 more
@@brandonGCHACHU yes but I believe that sticks out way above past the bed. This one is not noticeable unless you look inside the bed if the truck.
@@quickspoolgarage about to do this where did you buy the 2x2?
Good video! Actually gonna use this to put my welder in and out of my truck
Stay tuned for a update video next week
Same thing I plan to do. Don’t want the extra weight of the welder at all times making my gas milage go down unless I’m doing a job
yeah that's the way I'm gonna do it , thanks man .simple strong and not expensive .
Thanks, stay tuned.. I’m working on adding the pedestal for the boom and a winch!!

No problem, thanks for watching
really considering getting this for my truck bed. Thanks for the video.

Left side opener tailgate convertion kit will be nice
Sounds like folks are liking this. YA might set you up a jig and sell them.
That's cute but since you can't get that engine in the back of the truck What the hell is the use of that thing ?
Check out my other video 🙄

Very usable and works amazing! See my other video
Is the gas tank far out of the way when you are welding? That's the only thing that would give me pause welding under there. Thanks!!
Yes gas tank is a good ways. Way further than if the muffler were to get replaced. Thanks for viewing
Great video, man. Super helpful
Thanks
Would be nice to know if the boom goes up high enough to get that in the truck. My guess is no.
Check out my other video 👌
Why don't you remove the tailgate before you lift something with your crane?
I’ve taken the tailgate off when I’ve needed to leave the boom retracted.
Can you get the crane high enough to put the engine on the bed tho?? Was thinking of getting one for loading welder but it seems like it doesn’t have the reach
it definitely has enough room to get an engine in and out of the truck. I have an update video coming soon hopefully tomorrow. Thanks

Hey brother we can give it a real test it and see if it can put that LS3 in my truck bed lol. Nice vid
😂thanks for watching
Nice work
Thank you. Update video coming soon
Great video bro
Thanks bro
Very nice job! I need to do the same. What were your dimensions? I have the same set up.
2x2 square tubing 1/4 thick. 👌
@@quickspoolgarage Thanks but I meant the dimensions for the tubing: cuts for length from end to end.
how you going to lower engine in to bed arms to long
Raise the boom all the way up and lower the engine with the manual winch. Check out my other video.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Not concerned about the bracing rusting out?
I really wasn’t worried about it. But a coat of paint definitely not of hurt. Thanks for watching
@@quickspoolgarage Thank you for sharing 👍
How high does this go up?
Check out my other video I have a pretty good demonstration on it. Thanks for watching
How high does the arm articulate?
Almost completely vertical. I try and post a new video with the winch and at deferent angles on the next video

This has worked perfect for what I need it for. And the fact it’s totally concealed is what sold me.
