- Alex Cobb goes back to the injured list as quickly as he came off it, as the Guardians had major transaction news on an off-day.
Today's episode talks about whether or not there is regret not doing more for pitching at the deadline and what the rotation decisions are in the short and long term with Cobb out for the time being.
Chase DeLauter was also promoted to Triple-A on the off day and we debate about the surprise of that move by the Guardians and what his timeline to the big league is now, and what it could have been.

Goood morning gentleman have a great day today BIG GAME!!!
Morning
I may have to leave a day early and try to make this meetup on the 12th!! Roadtripping from southern Oregon
That makes at least 3
Great show gentlemen. Can't watch the game as I'm blocked out in CT. Looking at the gamecast they are making some terrible swing decisions. Pitchers are aware hitters or OVERLY aggressive. This offense needs to be patient and swing at pitches that they can handle and do damage with.
Will say the umpire has also been terrible looking at gamecast
New everydayer since June. Will be there in sept 12th meet up would be awesome
Top of the 10 and 2 and 3 we have to get some runs now with no outs
was a fun day in the end
I'd like to see Valera get a look in September since he is out of options after this year. Might as well give him a look.
my view too
We still have three more games in September at the Dodgers. Go Guards!
Yup
I would love to see Chase against righties at the very least!!!
I think it's more about next year
I think you have been a little negative on Valera. His biggest problem is injury. Simple as that. We not seen him enough to say definitely because he is injured so much, I think he should and will get called up. What happens at that point is up to him. Dude is a really smart player and puts in the work. Let's see if he got a future. It's now or nothing for me to be honest with him.
He has a passive game and injuries have held him back for sure but he also has grabbed his chances when healthy and he has a lot of contact issues. I think he deserves a chance but he is a really tricky prospect
Can they please bring back arias for Rocchio
I would be up for it
Cobb got that Split Fingernail Fastball.
😂😢
Booooo
Non data take-what do they have to lose by giving Valera some MLB at bats? Less of Schneeman or Freeman? Give him a look. They can look at DeLauter next month as well if they like.
I’m for giving both guys a shot. If you can make the roster work, I’d love to see DeLauter in CF and Valera in RF for a few games in September (especially vs RHP). Neither position currently has a guy that has completely captured the roster spot, and since both have absolute cannons and decent enough range to play CF at the AA or AAA level (and Kwan has elite RF range), I actually think you’d have yourself an extremely effective defensive OF at the MLB level. Not saying to make this the everyday OF going into the playoffs, but I’d like to see it for a couple games at least.
Need more than a month
Yessss
I’ll be there
Tommy Thumb surgery? What is the recovery time to have a prosthetic nail implanted?
About a month to grow back
When do you think Bazanna moves to Akron and or Columbus or not this year at all?
Not looking good for this year
We have 6 top 100 prospects and ALL of them are hitters.
Do you expect we try to turn the backlog of offensive talent into some pitching depth that isn't 18 years old this offseason?
No, for several reasons. First off, the vast majority of MLB top 100 prospects are hitters bc pitching is very hard to project and MiLB pitchers so often miss (MLB likes to be able to go back and say how correct their top 100’s are, and pitching puts that at risk). Second, in this organization pitching is developed, not acquired. The pipeline is refilled through drafts such as the 2021 and 2024 drafts (as well as veteran reclamation projects like Lively, EDLS, Cobb and Boyd). In these drafts projectable college arms are taken with the vast majority of picks. Guys like Nikhazy, Mace, Webb, Espino, Cantillo, Walters, Alemon, Tugboat, etc are all the next wave, and many of them are probably close to top 100 prospects (Espino still has one of the highest rated fastballs and sliders in MiLB according to MLB.com). Players like Doughty, Oakie, Mobley, Humphreys, Sullivan, and Campbell (who have all been drafted since 2022) represent the next wave after the guys I previously mentioned and all of them have a decent chance to be top 100-level players as well but they’re too far from the show to be realistically considered
No they have some nice pitching that should be hitting next year, no need to rush a trade
I was not as curious about prospects in the past as I am now. Since you guys have been looking at them for a while, what kind of prospects were guys like kluber and beiber? Were they huge prospects or kinda surprises?
Neither Kluber or Bieber were ever significant prospects. Neither was top 100 ranked prior to their MLB debuts, and idk if either was ever above number 15 or so in the organizational rankings. They weren’t as hyped as dudes like Bibee and Espino, who got national recognition.
@@davidwindell kinda interesting that those guys were the ones who really panned out compared to “top 100 prospects”
Kluber was an older player , Bieber moved so quickly that's the only reason he wasn't a top 100 guy
Bring up Arias, Delauder and Marzando. Sent down Rocco and Sheesman and put Thomas on the IL with Cobb. Thomas and Cobb.. unreal. Just do something for Gods sake.
Can't put Thomas on the DL without an injury
I do agree that we need to see Valera. But Chase will turn out to be best offensive prospect. You want someone with a great looking swing but does not produce?? I’d rather have production no matter the aesthetics.
I don’t think Jeff is necessarily worried about the aesthetics, rather his concern is that ugly swings rarely produce sustained MLB success. I have to comments on that however- 1, Chase’s swing is NOT that ugly, however the “uniqueness” tends to be amplified when he pulls an inside pitch because the short-armed aspect of his swing is put in focus. In pitches in the center to outside part of the plate, he gets decent extension and his swing looks fine- it’s just that the highlights tend to show the pitches he smokes to RF. 2, I am actually a fan of his swing because he is able to keep the bat in the plane of the ball for much longer than lefties with a traditional “pretty” one handed upper cut swing like Valera or even Ken Griffey Jr. and we all know that when the swing plane is flatter, you’re more likely to make contact. This is probably the reason that DeLauter has a 60 grade hit tool and Valera has a putrid history when it comes to in-zone contact. I’ll take an ugly swing that connects over a higher launch angle all day, especially if the flat swinger is as strong as an ox like DeLauter and can put a ball over the fence with ease, even at a 14 degree launch angle.
Not about aesthetics just that guys with weird swings rarely work how many awkward or hitchy swings can you recall with a guy who worked
@@LockedonGuardians hmm. Julio Franco, Rod Carew, Cecil Fielder, probably many more if I think about it.
Bottom line is Chase has performed so far. What’s to say he won’t in big leagues? It’s like a golf swing. Doesn’t have to be the prettiest to be effective. It works for him.
Can’t be worse than some of the current big leaguers and would be exciting for fan base.
If DeLauter is FULLY HEALTHY right now, he is the best option in the organization for EITHER right field or center field.
The swing is the swing- Vogt has already said the org isn’t changing that at all. Saying that DeLauter can’t hit lefties is a false narrative. You clearly can’t base your opinion off of a .685 OPS in just 28 MiLB plate appearances vs LHP (both because it’s not actually that bad, and it’s obviously a minuscule sample size). His cape data and college data vs lefties doesn’t indicate some massive challenge or inability.
Yes yes it does his college data vs lefties was terrible not sure where you are getting split data but he it was bad when he faced any decent pitchjng.
Make Avila your number 5. Thomas is such a disaster for this team. I can’t even talk about it anymore. And for the first time this year I’m placing the blame on our excellent manager who, for whatever reason, has failed to figure it out. Trade him, let him take a leave of absence…
pitching doesnt work that way he would need weeks in the minors to be stretched out, and complaining about thomas after he lead the way to the big win is a bit weird
Avila has thrown 2-3 innings at a clip. He could extend. Thomas had a hit.. behind on the pitch and gets an opposite field double. Move him to the 2 slot and strikes out 3 times going 0-4. He’s hitting like .100. Come on man.
guards will be out of the playoff race in 2 weeks. this lineup is toast.
Just about impossible to be out of the race with where they are record wise
@@LockedonGuardians right.. they are literally still in it because nobody else will go on a run in the AL. its going to happen eventually. the twins will catch them and the guardians will not make any true lineup promotions to rotate guys out who are slumping. this team has no chance as constructed.. and i am a lifetime guards / indians fan. they are gutless.. a true reflection of their ownership and front office.
@@LockedonGuardians gutless. just like the front office and ownership.
Finally 8 -3 is time to change the narrative I am tired to see them lose to the yankees
hoping they can get one more tomorrow
@LockedonGuardians tonight the oodsmakers didn't lie cantillo is not to pitch in yankee stadium
Jeff woke up on the wrong side of the bed today
I thought he was pleasantly positive, go Jeff!
Thanks for watching
When dose our new owner take over? Very tired of penny pinching.
Jun 27, 2022 - Blitzer now has a 25 percent stake in the Guardians, and the terms include an option for him to become majority owner in six years.
Penny pinching hasn’t been an issue for this club at all. There hasn’t been a move in a long time that was purely money motivated which hurt the team (nor has there been a clearly accessible player that would’ve been a solution to a problem that wasn’t picked up solely due to salary). You’re parroting a false narrative from lazy media members who are looking for something to blame things on. Dolan is a great owner and he spends almost perfectly in line with attendance. This team is 20th in attendance this year and 23rd in payroll. That’s not some massive discrepancy that clearly indicates a cheap owner, and that is the case nearly every single season. You cannot expect an owner to dump money into a team recklessly without the associated revenue coming in.
Been almost no updates on it
not being jokey...okay, maybe a little jokey...but it sure seems like a fake fingernail would be an option. to the manicurist!!
on the other hand, maybe feel is just too important for such an option.
I brought it up can't get a grip with one
@@LockedonGuardians thanks!
2-0 already yankees ahead Mathew Boyd is not a starting mlb pitcher anymore it seems the only team in the al central who beat the yankees is the tigers. The rest of the al central is owned by the yankees every year the Al central is a joke vs the yankees unreal
3-3 now only giving up 3. runs over 5 isn't bad for the yanks
@LockedonGuardians I hope I am wrong but we are what the twins have become to the yankees jose ramirez has looked awful today the Yankees have played awful we should been ahead luis gil was all over the place
Jeff. You are so negative in Chase. I hope he comes up and proves you wrong. You think you know it all - all the time. They pay you for this????
He might sound negative, but he’s simply bringing up valid, real concerns. The swing IS very unconventional (although I personally believe that this is exactly why it’s so effective but that’s for a later post) and he DOES tend to struggle more against LHP than he does RHP (however, a .685 in just 28 MiLB plate appearances isn’t exactly some huge call for alarm). Jeff also likes Valera more than most, and he’s absolutely correct that at some point you need to see what you’ve got in him (and/or showcase him for an offseason trade). There are valid reasons for Jeff’s negativity, though I don’t believe any of his concerns are wholly valid
David, I have watched 90% of the shows this year, and anytime Chase is brought up, Jeff has a negative comment about him. I get that he is oft injured but the guy is a big time talent. He will make us forget the Will Brennan and Tyler Freeman’s of the roster ( both who I like and root for).
@@scottbattershell9870Jeff makes important points about his health, which is a big issue. Jeff also says he could be a very good player and talks about his talent. I’ve been listening to Jeff since 2022 and he always brings a prudent analytical take. More often than not he gets things right. Go Guards!
