I really appreciate how thoroughly he inspects the sword, and how precisely he describes whats wrong with it..

I'm really becoming interested in a Waki and TH-cam knows it. So many videos in my feed.

Looks good man, I like the purple! The katana and wak look good together. How long did it take for you to receive both of these?

Thanks! We received them almost exactly 3 months after placing the order.

Nice review and fair assessment! When I first started collecting swords, I was drawn to SoN's "custom" service, but soon realized it wasn't worth the admission. SoN seems to be an outlet for Ryan Swords with premium price. Their problem isn't necessarily consistently bad quality, it's just that for the price they charge, there are such a boat load of Chinese manufacturers out there doing a more decent job, and the sloppiness of their fittings really turn people off. For the price, I still think HuaWei swords give the best bang for the buck.

Thanks! I was drawn to it early, as well, but refrained from buying until my wife wanted to buy us this set. I've gone ahead and ordered a JKOO/Sinsword custom katana as well, so I can get a comparison between what I see as the two most prominent sellers of custom katanas.

@@alientude The link beloew is to the email reply I got from SoN when I wrote and asked them about why the price difference between them and Hanbon Forge, each seem to be offering pretty much the same thing based on review of their websites.
But as I say, many people (at least those reviewing SoN swords on TH-cam) seem to really like the customer service from them. How much that matters when it comes down to the actual product is I guess a matter of personal preference.

@MichaelRS Maybe I should go all in on comparing the custom katana makers and buy something from Hanbon and RyanSword, as well.

@@alientude yeah, I'm not sure where the list would end when picking the "custom" vendors to compare to each other, but as i say, I chose HF and SoN because their websites basically seemed to present the same product in the same way, except for the price difference.
That and SoN is a larger presence on the TH-cam circuit when people are doing sword reviews.
But then you have HF offering to build and ship a basic 1060 blade for $97 vs SoN which seems to offer the same product with the same fixtures, but for $92 more.

I think all of them - Swords of Northshire, Hanbon, JKOO/Sinosword, and probably others I'm not aware of - are all resellers of RyanSword blades, fittings, etc, and the primary difference is what they choose to focus on. Judging by reviews I've seen, I don't expect any of them focus on fit and finish and getting everything done correctly, but I could be mistaken.

If somebody does not need extensive, long-winded communications in English, they might try Hanbon Forge over SoN. Basically same quality for 80% less mark up.
    HOWEVER,
Many people people seem very happy with the customer service from SoN.
I only deal with Hanbon through the sales email. But Mr Yao (the vendor, rap, or whatever you want to call him) apparently uses a translation program for his communication. That's fine, but realizing that I try to keep my communications and instructions simple and kind of in a list or bullet point format.
In return his responses are, out of necessity, short and sweet...so to speak. But I really have no complaints there.
Also, when I asked SoN about the price differences, they very honestly admitted it was because they were retailer and HF might have similar quality.
However, as I said, SoN emphasizes their customer service. You have to decide if the price difference for that is worth it to you for basically the same product.
Below, in order, are my first two Katana from Hanbon Forge and I have a third, a wakizashi, that I just ordered last week.
The first sword I ordered (link below), "Dragon's Claw" by the name and theme I gave it, for the upgrades to the leather Ito and the engraving and the special length Hi and the upgraded saya and sageo was $277 from HF.
The same thing quoted as $420 from SoN.
I don't say that HF is the last word in sub 300 swords and I don't decry SoN for their business model. You just have to decide which balance of what is important to you.

Heh , nice video, how ever I don't get it how people are so into swords of northshire every video I see of them there prices are to high the swords fail big time on either fittings quality or sharpness , I even looked at there website and they have some swords that are the same thing on Amazon and cult of Athena and they charge less than swords of Northshire, and yet people flock to swords of northshire, I got some of the same swords from Amazon for way less money and they are razor sharp and all the parts are still going on strong, heck I even carry one of my favorite katanas with me anytime I go deer hunting and cut up my deers with it and have no problems with it it's a musashi sword has a 1060 blade , I even accidentally cut into a chain link fence with it and it stayed Sharp , um that being said I wouldn't buy anything from sword of northshire until they lower their prices and use higher quality merchandise.

Swords of Northshire is actually a direct reseller of RyanSword. Take a look at their offerings - it's all the exact same stuff, but RyanSword has it considerably cheaper.

Did your swords take forever to be delivered?? I have ordered 2 Katanas from Swords of North Shire and they are takiing FOREVER even though I didn't order anything special or unique on my swords. I certainly don't think it should have taken them 3 Months so far and still no delivery dat given. Just this sloppy performance makes me think I won't be ordering from them again.
