The Yoda Grogu Lightsaber Problem - Book of Boba Fett Explained

  • In the Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker presented Grogu with Yoda's lightsaber from Revenge of the Sith! This was a huge surprise, since many of us thought Yoda's lightsaber was long gone.
In this video, I'm going to explain the retcon of Yoda's lightsaber from the canon star wars comics, as well as how I think Yoda picked his lightsaber up from his duel with Palpatine in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith in the senate arena while Anakin fought Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar.
I'm down with this retcon, I think Yoda's lightsaber should show up instead of being destroyed by Mas Amedda after Order 66 on the Jedi.

Isn’t it possible that Palpatine kept Yoda’s saber as a trophy, gave Mas Ammeda a fake one to destroy to symbolically show the galaxy that all the Jedi, including Yoda, were dead/traitors, and Luke recovered it after the fall of the Empire?

Ah, found it. It was on the Wookipedia article for Yoda's Lightsaber. It said this and has annotations
"The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations depicts the lightsaber as being stored in a box in Yoda's Hut by the time of the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[12] However, the 2017 comic Darth Vader (2017) 1 states that it was destroyed during a celebration of the eradication of the Jedi Order.[4] When asked about this, writer Charles Soule mused that perhaps Yoda built a new one, that he had more than one or that Darth Sidious built a fake to make a point.[17] Lucasfilm Story Group's Matt Martin then stated that they are aware of that but that it isn't an error as Yoda likely had more than a few lightsabers during his lifetime.[18] The discrepancy was solved in The Book of Boba Fett episode "Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger" with Yoda having another lightsaber in his possession.[15]"

Exactly Yoda isn't a hypocrite. I thought in the Vader comics Yoda's lightsaber was collected by Palpatine's HYPE MAN Mas Ameda who threw it in a bonfire of other collected lightsabers of dead Jedi at The Jedi Temple when Order 66 ended but maybe I'm wrong and it was rectoned. Luke will train Grogu in The Ways of The Force to be his own style of Jedi kinda like how he did in Legends letting the New Jedi have attachments and express feelings which make them stronger in protecting others and loved ones. I really appreciate this content from Star Wars Theory I've been watching his videos since my junior year of high school now I'm a senior in college about to graduate so Time flies. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

But this isn’t some random Jedi, this is Luke freaking Skywalker. Prior to his appearances in the sequels, Luke was established as a hero and a symbol of hope across the galaxy. And if you have an established character, you can’t just say “oh, he changed, that’s why he became a hopeless hermit”. In movies, it doesn’t work that way, if you want your character to change, you have to SHOW that; not tell, not hint, you have to SHOW, and not just show, but also giving a good reason why he changed. Unfortunately, none of this was done very well at all, his change is inorganic, and that’s why people hate it. Not because he just changed, because it was just overall poorly made.
Maybe next time you should actually *plan* out your trilogy (meanwhile you have the MCU that spent 10+ years planning out their entire series) and learn about what “proper writing” is in movies. In the corner of the hut you can actually spot a small box with Yoda's keepsakes, old texts and his lightsaber in it. I think Yoda had another Lightsaber that he kept but never used or showed to anyone. After his death, luke probably found it and kept it until now.

Even in cannon his attachment to his father is what allowed him to redeem Anakin in the end. There is no consistency in Diz-canon. He had his lightsaber when he escaped. It is even in the novel. Shows simply that Disney doesn't care about consistency, only convenience. That Episode with Luke also wasn't right. Luke saw attachment as something that could be allowed if controlled. So this new canon with its INFINITE problems have turned me off of their Attempts at Star Wars. I watched BoBF out of curiosity. And see all the lore problems and such. It's unforgivable in my eyes. If you enjoy it, awesome. But I cannot see it as anything more than attempts of corporate fan fiction. They call it Canon, I call it crap.

Check out his wookiepedia article for more on what I mean. Also, Splinter of the Mind's eye has like zero continuity with anything. It was basically Lucas' backup script in case he couldn't afford to make Empire the way he wanted... so even though it was the first EU title, it goes down a very different path than the actual narrative of the saga and Legends/EU.

The big one for me was Labyrinth of Evil. At one point in the book, Dooku is reminiscing about what "a delight" Grievous was to train and what a quick learner he was, while in a later chapter, Dooku is thinking about how predictable Grievous' moves are and how "hopeless" he is. It's like those two chapters were each written by a different writer with a different idea of how Dooku and Grievous' relationship should be.
Actually, the final season of Tartakovsky's Clone Wars seems to take some inspiration from Labyrinth of Evil, despite there being some crucial differences, particularly the invasion of Coruscant. Labyrinth of Evil references certain events that happen in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, but after Labyrinth of Evil, I don't think they're meant to be the in same continuity.

Vader held Anakin’s lightsaber at the time (Palpatine made it very clear that this was the saber of another and not his own anymore in that issue) likewise the saber of the dead no longer held an owner, it would be claiming that which had no counter, like picking up a rock from the side of the road. It’s the same reason why on his quest when he went to some kind of information repository that held many lightsabers in storage and even used one for a moment, he discarded it and continued on his quest. He had to take a lightsaber FROM a living Jedi, prove himself the superior to claim it. And then corrupt the crystal. Anything less would be unworthy of a Sith Lord.

You can't tell me that Master Yoda doesn't know how to duel wield lightsabers. So unless he borrowed Yaddle's lightsaber, he would need another small lightsaber to train with two.
Also, there is a possibility that a Force teleportation, a al TROS, happened.
Bottomline is they can easily explain why Yoda has another lightsaber.

Exactly the Original Trilogy and Prequels were consistent. Most Jedi have multiple lightsabers especially the oldest and most powerful.

Just because Yoda swore to never wield another lightsaber in the comics does NOT mean he did not HAVE his lightsaber. I know some recovering alcoholics that keep a bottle in their possession as a sign of their determination to never take another drink. Yoda may have collected his lightsaber and took it with him to Dagobah, but its very presence reminded him of his failures, and he put it away and swore to never wield it again.
My grandfather kept his Oldsmobile 88 long after his driver's licence had expired. Though he couldn't and wouldn't drive it, he kept it as a monument to what it meant to him and the family he raised with it.
Also, in the comic it is never said outright that that was Yoda's lightsaber. It could have simply been one that looked very similar. Similar looking lightsaber hilts are very common in the Star Wars universe. And, likely the artist simply used Yoda's as a reference when drawing that scene on Coruscant.
It doesn't have to create a plot hole when it is never explicitly explained that Yoda's blade was lost or destroyed. It was certainly IMPLIED, but never was it explicit.

I just now discovered something, pointed out by the channel New Rockstars in their "All Easter Eggs and References" video from this week's episode of The Book of Boba Fett, about Yoda's "lost" lightsaber: Apparently, there was a later comic made, one of the "Age of Rebellion" issues, that hinted that Yoda kept his saber on Dagobah all those years, but had it completely disassembled to keep it very well-hidden and after he died, Luke later recovered it and re-assembled it himself I'm assuming. But I'm not sure why they even name-dropped Yoda's lightsaber in that Darth Vader comic then. Maybe Yoda built a decoy hilt to kept it for an occasion like Order 66 so that he could cover his tracks? I dunno....

Is it possible the lightsaber thrown in the furnace in the comics was Yaddles? As for the size of Yoda's lightsaber compared to Grogu, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for Luke and Grogu to reconstruct the lightsaber to be suitably wielded by Grogu or for that matter modifying any weapon to fit Grogu's hands. Its possible Grogu already knows how to wield a saber, he's remembering training, not gaining new training from Luke. When does Grogu get a helmet if he is a Mandalorian foundling? Why isn't anyone talking about the force choke Grogu performed, clearly a path to the dark side, as it's only been used by jedi to crush droids and Grievous' chest armour by Mace Windu. Great vid!

Yeah, the issue I've always had with Filoni is that in his journey to provide great content for Star Wars, he often undermines pre-existing lore from other sources. Now, this is a good thing in some cases because sometimes it's bad, but in other cases [bad batch affecting Kanan comics] he accidentally morphs other people's stories and leave holes in places there weren't.

the sith are full of deceit, that wasn't yodas saber they destroyed in the comic, it was a fake one. it's really that simple. plapatine knew yoda survived order 66 and didn't want the people to know that, so what better way to show yoda was no more than to show his light saber being destroyed in public.

InVerse did an article on this...:
A 2016 book called Star Wars: The Complete Locations claimed Yoda had his lightsaber stored in his hut on Dagobah. Meanwhile, a 2017 Darth Vader comic depicted Palpatine publicly burning Yoda’s lightsaber publicly as a propaganda stunt. Both comic book writer Charles Soule and Lucasfilm rep Matt Martin have pointed out there’s no canon error, and fans can easily imagine Yoda having built a second lightsaber.

There are other options…. The lightsaber thrown away into the furnace could have been a former lightsaber of Yoda (after all, not every new lightsaber must require the loss of the former one). Or Luke managed to get one of the earlier lightsabers of Yoda after he rummaged through the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant…

Why is it so hard to imagine Yoda having multiple lightsabers? The clip of Yoda's saber falling during his duel with Palpetine shows a much shinier hilt while the one Luke offers Grogu is more matte. I don't get why Yoda the GRANDMASTER of the jedi couldn't possibly have had not even a single backup. It's really not that deep. Not to mention Yoda is like a thousand years old so I'm almost certain that he's had more than one lightsaber in his incredibly long lifespan. You guys are treating this like it's an actual historical fact rather than a just story.
