What I've always loved about this song it captures the human frailties and passions that we experience everyday. At the end becomes about our choices, and yet we cannot ignore the fact we have these feelings and experiences.
I was 8 yrs old in '86', leaving DC my sister played this song in her car taking me and my sisters back to our new home in Fairfax county, Virginia. Our oldest sister passed 2 years later, in a car accident. Plus I moved away from my third grade love. What a harsh year.
This song came to life in my life! When this song came out I was sleeping with a married man and gave birth to his child! He never went back to the wife but I never became the wife because he never divorced her. Even today we are the best of friends and together we raised a very intelligent, sweet, college graduate, but it's nothing like being raised with a mother and father together who loves each other! I never wanted to hurt his wife but I fell in love with him(they both were cheating on each other). Today, I am a Woman of God ( happily married 17 years and counting) and I dedicate my life to schooling young girls on the love of God and not the FLESH! Thank God we Serve a LOVING GOD WHO FORGIVES! The wife and I are friends today and Sisters in Christ! God turned it around for the both of us! My daughter and her daughters interact like sisters and they call me Momma Lady T! What a Mighty God we serve! I BLESS GOD FOR FORGIVING ME and for the wife FORGIVING ME as well, AS WE LAY!
I think a lot people misunderstand the message of this song. She's only confessing that they messed up by committing infidelity. She's not bragging about it. This is story that many have experienced and this is just her telling her story and taking ownership

I love this song! Growing up in the inner city of Los Angels, Calif in the 80's was tough! With the explosion of crack on the streets and gang violence killing what seemed like the innocent over money and turf. +Berenice Gericke Hi how are u, I call this writing Forgiven, It was eyes to her eyes, then wondering came through each mind , indeed we`re all alone a café corner coffee but we didn`t call home , we wanted to this moment to be ours though many people around us couldn`t see what`s going on , Forgiven never came to play with us, so we left together , here we are consenting adults, or maybe barrowed just one night , how can this be wrong ,time swiftly blew fast and now a shameful face has no reasons to look for tomorrow it`s done ,
this song could have easily been a country and western tune; it tells a story of life. People forget that really R&B tells stories, evokes feelings and emotions, makes us think and reminisce about those times, those episodes in our lives; the power of music, the power of Rhythm & Blues! Some of the best singers in the world crossed from Gospel to R&B and taught the world to sing! Shirley Murdock is a master teacher! ALL LOVE!
“We should’ve counted up the cost, but instead we got lost in the seconds, in the minutes, in the hours”. Damn how I love this song. Reminds me of someone I was crazy about at my first duty station. 1986 was a great year!!
Hello everyone who's listening to my girl singing the Truth just like it is.. This is one of those forever lasting Down to the Soul song. Ladies we aren't in this alone. Are we Fellows?
Shirley Murdock is my all-time favorite vocalist. As we lay contains elements of soul, jazz, gospel, country, r&b, Broadway, and opera. No one in the world can perform this song in a manner comparable to or better than Shirley. I wish she was my musical mentor. So undervalued!
💜 Saturday mornings in the 80's all I remember was the smell of bleach and the oldie goldies. And to think I was singing word for word knowing NOTHING!!! It's Morning. 🌄
The old year facing its sundown, 2022 dawning and Shirley´s velvet voice is still sweet as cherry pie that you´ll really like to forget about tomorrow...
This song proves that music can be beautiful and incredibly messy at the same time!

The late master producer, composer , singer, arranger, songwriter, prolific guitar player and funk music pioneer, Roger Troutman (R.I.P.).
🎸 🎵 ✍️
And Billy Beck, ( keyboard player, arranger, producer for the legendary funk band "The Ohio Players") really put their soulful feet into this R&B classic melodic slow jam, about adultery and forbidden love 🚫!!
Their production along with Shirley Murdock's vocals made this song prolific!! "Illegitimate Baby making music" at its very Finest!!
Sick 😣
This Lady is awesome with her golden voice.
The first 30 seconds of this song is pure musical genius!
5:24 is where I get my life!!!!! My favorite part of the song because that woman sang that!! Goosebumps every time. Anita Baker last night, Shirley Murdock this mornin.. yes I'm def gettin my life lol that good R&B that you can't sink yo feet in is the best..
2:30 for me - the first goosebumps, obviously there were more...

Haha! Really?? Who doesn't put their heart & soul into this song I mean come on! Lol
As a teen I use to sing the mess out this song, as I got older, I realized what the words meant but I don't care this song would always be in my top ten 🥰🤣....
it's like robin hood you steal but do great things with it.

+Berenice Gericke Hi how are u, I call this writing Forgiven, It was eyes to her eyes, then wondering came through each mind , indeed we`re all alone a café corner coffee but we didn`t call home , we wanted to this moment to be ours though many people around us couldn`t see what`s going on , Forgiven never came to play with us, so we left together , here we are consenting adults, or maybe barrowed just one night , how can this be wrong ,time swiftly blew fast and now a shameful face has no reasons to look for tomorrow it`s done ,
+Michael Peterson Damn
Cool piece Michael P!!

I've been looking for this artist forever. I had a seizure and I forgot everything and Google is a joke! Wouldn't help me at all!
I was 10 years old when this came out. Thanks Shirley Murdock!🌹
Me too. My mom used to blast this jawn all the time. I knew back then what it meant
Man I like this song. The experience is real
Ramel Rush I was a lil nigga when this song came out....
Ramel Rush you cute
Ramel Rush yes lord
this song could have easily been a country and western tune; it tells a story of life. ALL LOVE!
Can't help but reminisce when I hear this song. It just takes me away to different place.
Some songs can't be covered!!! I like Kelly and she is super talented. But Shirley has that voice that will shake the house!!
I remember my mother was singing this song when I was a little girl r.i.p momma love you

“We should’ve counted up the cost, but instead we got lost in the seconds, in the minutes, in the hours”. Damn how I love this song. Reminds me of someone I was crazy about at my first duty station. 1986 was a great year!!
You're pathetic
one of the greatest vocal performances of all time ..

Yess 🥰💙 song everything 😂
I can't believe my parents let me listen to this as a kid 😂.
Remember this song playing on the radio all the time. Didn't know the meaning at the time, just loved her voice.
One of the most beautifully composed songs I've ever heard, a masterpeice
Thanks Roger Troutman for producing this hit.
This song was written by Larry Troutman and keyboardist Billy Beck(Ohio Players)
I think it was actually one of Roger's brothers that produce the song. I forgot his name.
@@ericpledge1 No Roger produced it lol

💜 Saturday mornings in the 80's all I remember was the smell of bleach and the oldie goldies. And to think I was singing word for word knowing NOTHING!!! It's Morning. 🌄
Man the memories that I have from this song. Growing up to music like this was the best. She sung her heart and soul out in this. 🎯💯❣️
The old year facing its sundown, 2022 dawning and Shirley´s velvet voice is still sweet as cherry pie that you´ll really like to forget about tomorrow...
How can you not LOVE this song despite the cheating concept?
Righttt
Just like Billy Paul's, Me and Mrs. Jones
