Bought one a couple of months ago. Really impressed overall, except the engine 2.0tdi and not as punchy as I was expecting. Got it remapped and now it's good.
Always interested in the actual comparables size-wise, as well as the nominal "class" of the vehicle - especially in a wagon, where capacity can be a major decider. Checking tech specsn (and it's amazing how hard one has to look to find some of these), the Passat estate lands between the 3-series and 5-series on most measurements, but according to the makers' supplied numbers the Passat even handles more cargo than the BMW 5-series (603/1731 litres vs 560/1670 litres). The slick Volvo V60 is smaller than most of the pack, esp in back, but that's what that sloping roof will do. (The v60 does have a longer wheelbase than the VWs, for what that's worth.) I've read that the US Jetta Sportwagon (which looks to be the UK's Golf estate) would be replaced by ... a Golf estate. Not in name, anyway, not yet ... keep watching. As expected, the numbers shake out as pretty even for A4 Avant/3-series sportwagon and A6 Avant/5 series - though, since we only get one of those in the US, it's academic to some of us. (Yes, there is the A4 Allroad ... ) Not to be forgotten, the Mazda 6 Tourer (also not in the states yet), while longer and wider than the Passat, has 15% less cargo space with seats up (506 vs 603 L), though it makes up some of that difference with seats down (1648 vs 1731.) Whatever numbers tell you, head and legroom are best judged in the seat, I think, and those can also be critical depending on your needs.
Well, chances are if you buy a car like this, you're not looking for a sporty shape or dynamic performance. So I don't think the negatives are so applicable. If you buy a Toyota Prius, you're not looking for horsepower or sporty performance. You're buying it to get 50 mpg. It's not exactly fair to criticize a car for something it wasn't designed for in the first place.
No one said 100% of all their cars sold will leave them with huge repair bills. But the % is a lot higher than the more reliable brands. And when one of those brands fail and need repairing, the bill is not as big as VW's.
The Alltrack is based on the Passat Variant (estate), but it's a bit higher due to higher suspension, it has a Haldex 4-wheel drive system, plastic and aluminum covers all around and under the vehicle for improved off road capability. And it weights just 50kg more than an equally equipped Passat Variant.
you forgot to say that after some mileage you can turn on the tire pressure lamp, that is, the pressure processor in the tires and that the authorized service can not solve it
Alfa= unreliable, expensive parts VW= reliable with a soft touch of premium (it nails premium cars) and much better than its rivals. Perhaps Honda Accord would be an andvantage for me, but Honda Accord 2.2 I-CDTI has a smaller fuel economy and insurance/taxation is higher. What a Passat 2.0 TDI BlueMotion can do, is no other car is doing. The biggest fuel economy in its class, the biggest space. Top safety ratings. And i like the style!! Why not? Its German. Solid, serious, excelent.
But do they leak in water as badly as the B5 did? I like the look of the car not dull at all, this model looks great with those alloys.. I'm a big fan of the passat but not the amount of water the older models let in... I hope VW have overcome that problem.
Rebecca, you are lovely, as all the good perfumes they come in small bottles. The Passat and BMW 3 Series is not quite appropriate comparison for dynamic is not the same segment, I would say a 5 Series is in that size. also keep in mind that now the Passat has a killer, that is the Hyundai i40 which is a nice Break too in that segment.
Even if the parts cost the same to replace for a Kia as it does an Audi, you can be sure that the Audi dealer will charge extra in "labor" charges, for the privilege of owning a four ring emblem. Guaranteed. This is not a complaint, just a fact. If you're going to buy a more expensive car, especially European you can expect to be charged higher maintenance costs. I doubt anyone will claim that Audi/VW are cheap to maintain.
The boot opens ok but when the car is locked and you go out of the shop and your hands are full with products should I open the car with the key or only waving foot under the bumper( I ask because following this logic everyone can open the boot)
1. Flat out lies. Ask any mechanic how much it costs to replace something major on a VW/Audi compared to a Kia/Toyota/Hyundai. 2. People who drive a Kia do so because they're cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain. The reliability is just something to be expected from asian design philosophy. Simpler, not as nice, but solid. Are you seriously comparing Audi to a Kia? Go and look up any reliability survey, and you'll find VW and Audi are among the bottom 10.
I had Alfa, BMW, VW and Opel. I'm now selling my 5 series and going back to Alfa. Alfa has the best blend of performance, practicality and styling. And, if you take care of it, it will take care of you for a long long time.
i don't get it, doesn't passat compete with the a6 and 5 series? cause she is comparing this to the a4 and 3 series, thats more like a golf variant and not a passat, right? And could someone explain to me what the different between a passat variant is and a regular passat, except the rear and front lights.
Too bad car reviewers have no way of assessing a car's long term reliability before giving it glowing reviews and leading many customers into buy a car that leaves them out of pocket with huge repair bills once the warranty expires.
They do, but Toyota also sell a shitload more cars than Audi, so you would expect more recalls. Toyota however are willing to admit faults (in some territories), unlike some car makers who keep silent about it and try to hide it under a rug. Meanwhile VW had a massive recall in China for the DSG transmission. China being a very key market to VW's goal of being #1, they decided that market was one they had to treat with care. I don't know if Kia even use turbo chargers.
Is this a new car ?? It looks like the old one, expect for the headlights, grill and a funky looking clock in the middle of the dashboard. Also the highline model does not come with Bluetooth, SAT-NAV or parking sensors as standard. The car becomes too expensive when you add the "basic" extra options. (in my point of view).
When you're looking at some part, even a simple part, on a $40-60k+ Audi, there is no way it's going to cost the same amount to replace as a $15k Kia. You buy an expensive car, you can expect to pay more expensive maintenance. Are you seriously disputing this? Now you said, it's going to cost pretty much the same on any comparable engine. But is an Audi/VW engine comparable to a Kia/Toyota engine? I don't know of any turbo chargers used in Kia or Toyota cars. They may exist, but not standard.
pamajimo, jeez someone needs to check their grammar. You're a little cranky. Do you need a pacifier? What I meant was for the age of the Passat that was reviewed, it looks good. Some cars do not age well after ten years. Take a deep breath and sit down.
Hahaha, foot activated boot. Sounds strange from the standpoint of somehow who speaks English with an American dialect -- we always call it a liftgate, but foot activated boot sounds way cooler! Especially since I don't remember feet having to activate boots...usually you just wear them.
Right so you buy a BMW expecting it to break down on a regular basis do you? Your idea of premium seems to be a bit warped, premium doesn't mean expensive, it means quality, a car can quite easily be premium, or at least feel premium, without spending a fortune...VW proves that, you rarely find cheap materials in them, but they are a fraction of the cost of a Merc or BMW! Well I think your initial statement shows your true colours not only because its ridiculous..but because its marked as spam!
Since when is this thing a competitor for the BMW 3-series, the Audi A4 and the Volvo V60? This is just a mainstream midsize car like a Insignia or a Mondeo.
Same old reviews every time how tall she is, all cars not like 3 series BMW and all the space and adjustments which are available in all new cars nowadays
It may look dull, but it can carry a banana in the glove box, and enough bottles of water to supply a large town for days! I am sure she said she was 4ft 5 and a 1/4 in the last video?
i count the numbers not the quality. For you Czech boy VW are the best, just like for me. Ofcourse if you live in Prague in a bohemian house you can have a CLS. But for less money, VW does its job.
Volvo v60 isn’t in same category as the Passat for space / room in fact it’s pretty awful the boot is awkward shape and it’s small as is the rear seats
Ford are not perfect and if people have had bad experiences in the past with Ford reliability or build quality, or have had poor service from Ford dealerships, or they simply don't like the 'look' of the Mondeo, then they might consider the Passat (although as she say, it does look a bit dull) =;-)
it looks dull? I like the design.. verry clean and sharp horizontal lines
I find the estate better looking than the saloon.
Oh snap, look at that 0:52 build quality.
Hahahahaha
Bought this car today I love it and Rebecca is so cute and elegant when she talks and all together
Bought one a couple of months ago. Really impressed overall, except the engine 2.0tdi and not as punchy as I was expecting. Got it remapped and now it's good.
I used to drive a 2.0 TDi and it went like a rocket, maybe it was on limp mode ?
140hp or 170hp?
My 177PS is rapid.
Went to see this car last week, instantly fell in love, and is going to get it home tommorow

They are sporty and fun to drive if you go with the sports suspension!
And why did you not tell us about the rear air-con
This girl is so cute when she talks and altogether.
I am a Big Volvo fan but this Passat beats the Volvo V60 hands Down ! Only the BMW 3 series touring can match this estate in class.
Being five foot and a half, she's Richard Hammonds dream girl.
Well I'm 6ft 3 but I wouldn't be unhappy either :)
Everybody would be very happy having the beautiful Rebecca Jackson as girlfriend for sure
5’4 and a half, do you have ears?

Sat in one today and I loved the feel of the dash and the door cards and the door had a solid thunk when I closed it

The review unit that they used was a Passat Highline(top range model) so the basic model will lack many of the features and looks from this car.
she didnt mention the cheap looking plastic on the dash.. all that really caught my eye was that rear armrest with the pocket and cup holder...
This car is enormous. It's a winner.
5'4'' and a half, I'll take her.
But I'm worried about boot space.
you forgot to say that after some mileage you can turn on the tire pressure lamp, that is, the pressure processor in the tires and that the authorized service can not solve it

I love your voice and you made me laugh though the hole video I fell In love with YOU....😆😆😆
forgot to mention the electronic hand brake when if fails you are not going anywhere & will need a tow to a garage....
You don't know about the cable you can pull to release it then
Even if the parts cost the same to replace for a Kia as it does an Audi, you can be sure that the Audi dealer will charge extra in "labor" charges, for the privilege of owning a four ring emblem. Guaranteed.

I wanted to see the seats they don’t drop down level preferred Mats review as more thorough re boot and seats
She didn't go in to much detail and it isn't dull.
1. Flat out lies. Ask any mechanic how much it costs to replace something major on a VW/Audi compared to a Kia/Toyota/Hyundai.

Lovely looking car, estate better than saloon imo!
What happens if a cat runs under the bumper, does the boot still open?
i don't get it, doesn't passat compete with the a6 and 5 series? cause she is comparing this to the a4 and 3 series, thats more like a golf variant and not a passat, right? The rear lights on this Passat look pretty similar to the one's on the Mk6 Golf..not bad
the most recent MOT advisory for this car is fucking hilarious haha

I don't know if Kia even use turbo chargers.
I'd watch multiple episodes of thundercats with her and we'd do a shot every time there was a "schnarf liono!".
Maybe talk about cars.

PLEASE show the dashboard in your reviews. I have no clue of what the car looks like from the driver's position.
Who else is just looking at comments cringing by seeing sexual comments.
Carbuyer, please do a review on the new Volkswagen Golf Estate. I really love this car:)
They really love volvic

BANNANA IN THE GLOVE BOX XD
"Banana for scale"
The only reason to buy an A4 over this is the 3.0 Diesel VW/Audi preserves for their "premium" models.
boring is not a factor anyway because an estate diesel with high mp/g is boring in itself.
cool review...
The Passat has aged well.
pamajimo, jeez someone needs to check their grammar. You're a little cranky. Do you need a pacifier? What I meant was for the age of the Passat that was reviewed, it looks good. Some cars do not age well after ten years. Take a deep breath and sit down.
This car is cool I will buy it
how about the middle seat on the second row? Is it still comfy for adults? Is the transmission tunnel tolerable?
Very firm middle seat, very large transmission tunnel!!
Time for the new XF Sportbreak!
Hahaha, foot activated boot. Sounds strange from the standpoint of somehow who speaks English with an American dialect -- we always call it a liftgate, but foot activated boot sounds way cooler! Especially since I don't remember feet having to activate boots...usually you just wear them.
What model variant is this. It is so tough to find vw passat b7 with this type of leather seats.
Executive
Looks like Volkswagen is getting harder and harder to beat when it comes to normal everyday use.
3:27 Mother of splashes.
I have got estate with atmosphere 3.6 fsi
Strange but its only engine without turbo in B7
So if you are near your car and a cat goes under the car, the boot will open?
"Alltrack" is 4 wheeldrive and possibly a bit heavier is my guess.
My mom needs this
Does she have it??
What the different between estate n alltrack? I look like almost the same...
Nice car, good review! :)
She’s a gorgeous female car reviewer
Since when is this thing a competitor for the BMW 3-series, the Audi A4 and the Volvo V60? This is just a mainstream midsize car like a Insignia or a Mondeo.
Volkswagen's designs are becoming a bit archaic. The CC and the Scirocco are the only striking ones...
Same old reviews every time how tall she is, all cars not like 3 series BMW and all the space and adjustments which are available in all new cars nowadays
Full leather? Obviously a demonstrator. Impossible to find on a used Passat!
You'd get 3 of them handbags in a Peugeot 3008 centre console...
It may look dull, but it can carry a banana in the glove box, and enough bottles of water to supply a large town for days! I am sure she said she was 4ft 5 and a 1/4 in the last video?
That is my point exactly, that people drive other cars than Passat
i count the numbers not the quality. For you Czech boy VW are the best, just like for me. Ofcourse if you live in Prague in a bohemian house you can have a CLS. But for less money, VW does its job.
Half an inch makes all the difference.
MegaVector2011 is that what your ex told you?
Miss my mams passat estate so reliable for a 00
Is it blue motin
Volvo v60 isn’t in same category as the Passat for space / room in fact it’s pretty awful the boot is awkward shape and it’s small as is the rear seats
Some one was in a happy mood
i never saw the passat ?
IMO, it has aged well.
I’ve had the saloon version brilliant car just abit boring
The Skoda Octavia estate looks so much better imo.
It is also a lot smaller.
TheCocaColaManiac Barely, there's one just like that parked outside next to a similiar year Skoda and they're nearly identical in size.
0:38 the left shoulder of the Rebecca’s coat is ripped
And why do u think that people from the Balkans don't drive BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Alfa Romeo etc?
what is the difference between the s and se
se has all standard extras.
More Crome and a lot more bells and whistles
The clock looks like a mod on the dash not original:(
Variant (facelift)
you were obviously never there... one of the most common cars in some of the Balkan countries is mercedes..
What's the music from 0:55 to 1:04?
Yeah, it is a little too expensive. I think there are better cars for that much money. C-class, or bmw 3 are not that common and boring.
5ft4 and a half. Don't forget the half.
When she say "its huge", o man...
TestAutomobila ooooo gdje si strale barabo jedna pijačarska
:D
Ford are not perfect and if people have had bad experiences in the past with Ford reliability or build quality, or have had poor service from Ford dealerships, or they simply don't like the 'look' of the Mondeo, then they might consider the Passat (although as she say, it does look a bit dull) =;-)
She's dressed the same way for the Audi A4 review
looks better then audi to me but then again vw and audis look like 2/10 to me
finally she is not wearing the red coat
you would wouldn't you
Could you please somehow grow 6 inches, so that you can say 5 and a half feet.
What about a magnetic game of chess?
Armin, you are not allowed to have an opinion! :D
