Her goal is to have listeners depart her concert feeling like like they just watched a 50s movie. Also, her primary instrument is cello, which she played with the the Icelandic Symphony. Her twin sister is a concert violinist.
AND she plays the cello. She is classically trained. She has a twin sister who is also an excellent musician whose main instrument is the violin.
I feel like I should be hearing the the crackle of the needle on vinyl that isn't there. Also, amusing when Johnny jumps out of his chair when recognizing a song. He's alive!

I accidentally saw her Tiny desk concert. Although her target audience is the post teen female generation, I had to get her album. Bought the vinyl to support her as an artist, although I always believe that digital audio is the best for listening and the closest to what the artist , the producer and the audio engineer originally intended

Yes! I had that Judy Garland vibe when I heard her. That wistful, yearning, melancholic, yet beautiful melodic sound that just draws you in & time stands still. You are transported to that place where these singers weave their enchanting stories in song. Only certain singers have the ability to work that special magic on the listeners.💖

I love watching the reactions where you guys just squirm with enjoyment and your eyes shine and you can't stop smiling because the music/voice is so good! She is wonderful 🌷
I also love these arrangements and how delicately the strings are sprinkled in to keep the light airiness of the songs. So good!
My favourite thing is artists showing their talent with small moments of brilliance in the simplicity of a song, like the riff she does in the second song. It shows her talent and also absolutely serves the song. Nothing more boring than riffs and belting all over the place just to show off.

Laufey has precious classical music edification and training since little: her grandma 胡适熙 is the director of vocal music at the leading Chinese musical school: Central Conservatory of Music and her grandpa 林耀基 is famous violinist and professor from there too. Solid and exquisite training and influence from east and west, modern and classical!
I also recently discovered her and shes great!!!!! I love her voice and her style so much, thank you for making me understand why I like her so much!
How fun to watch you two geek out listening to Laufey. Her music is magical--somehow bridging jazz, classical, and pop. I love how she makes old sound new. Her silky old-soul vibe reminds me of Taehyung. What an impressive musician!

How strange! I heard her for the 1st time a couple of days ago. Her song, Goddess, was played on Radio 1(UK). I was listening & her voice stopped me in my tracks! I was transported into another world.Timeless & magical.💖 It was also a lovely surprise to hear this old school/ jazzy vibe amongst the pop and rock.
Afterwards, I thought of you 2 guys & wondered if you'd heard her, thinking you would love her & her musical style. It seems she was already on your radar! Glad you did this reaction video. 👍🏻🙂

I really love this...or her. To me...reminds me of old school jazz...kind of like what you guys already said....reminds me of those old movies I watched as a kid when the actors/actresses not only acted, but danced and sang. I love it. Love how the strings were used in the first song...different, but really interesting. I love seeing young artists performing this old style...definitely would be on my playlist. Laufey, is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and record producer. She graduated with a presidential scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in 2021. As of October 2023, she resides in Los Angeles! She won a GRAMMY at the 66th Annual Awards 2024 for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Bewitched.

Kinda weird to me that you've done so many reactions (over 400) but are just now hearing of some very cool artists who are not little-known in popular culture (Laufey, Angelina Jordan, and even Tiny Desk Concerts by NPR which have been ongoing for I think at least 10-20 years!). Just the artistry that you would find in Tiny Desk itself would entirely broaden and change your knowledge base of American music culture. I think you are good in your knowledge and "take" on the songs/vocals, but maybe need to really broaden your knowledge of popular American (with a slight edge/underground feel) music culture.
