My theory for this one is that the person who actually tried to kill her is still out there, to be revealed later. The villagers just saw the volcano part and celebrated her death. They never actually seem to take responsibility for her death, nor does the individual who knocked her out ever come forward. It wasn't A mob, it was one person.
