Personally, I think it actually looks better without paint. It doesn't make me terrified to touch it like a lot of MP style figures. Plus, simplicity fits for G1
That's why I took a chance on it. I was skeptic with thier blaster, but after getting that in hand and knowing this was from the same designer, I felt totally comfortable.
i fkn love it. I get what he means about the paint. But i rarely notice that until i see the alternative such as Fanstoys side by side. But i dont think itll "kill" it. It might be slightly better but dunno if its be worth twice the price?
let’s say FT or Takara release their Blitzwing. I’m assuming the price would be ridiculously high. For half the price, I think this is worth it even with the lack of paint
@@ramkorndef no it’s been SIX + years in the making. That’s when they released their grey model to keep people from buying DX9’s. Over 4 years ago is when they started taking preorders.
This figure looks good, solid quality, all modes looks good imo. Besides lack of paint and finish, I dont see any significant issues. Best MP lvl blitzwing yet.
You see lack of paint as a negative. I see it as a HUGE positive. It means I can actually transform it, and it'll still look as it did when I first got it, because the edges aren't scraped like a lot of Fans Toys releases. Just depends on whether you're buying a figure to display, or to get your fingers on it for them T A C T I L E S E N S A T I O N S. Also, it IS Deformation Space!? Fuck yeah! I _thought_ it reminded me of their Blaster!! :D :D :D
I think it's great! Been transforming it back and forth for days and it's fun! I like the colored plastic as opposed to paint because I'm not chipping paint while moving parts around. This is my definitive MP Blitzwing!
This really is intuitive. The last half of the tank mode, I was able to pause the video and finish alone. I have NEVER been able to do that with a MP transfomer.
I'm curious to see how it looks in hand with this unpainted plastic. The only figure that ever bothered me enough to take it apart and repaint it fully because of the lack of paint was MP-29 (not the plus version). But in all the photos and videos I've seen of this Blitzwing the unpainted purple doesn't look off putting at all.
It definitely seems like they are playing heavily into the toon look with the lack of sculpting details. A little to heavily in my opinion. It looks fantastic but I also do wish for a bit more detail to those large panels. The two vehicle modes are pretty clean though in that we don't really see much of the other mode showing which is sadly something the Hasbro main line Blitzwings have been totally failing at over the last two or three versions. I say these peeps did a pretty good job with this one. 👍👍
My Trailbreaker had the fingers with no metal pins, just plastic tension and they literally exploded out of the box, when I touched the figures hand. I was able to find them all and put them back on. If they paint this figure for the second run and maybe fix those fingers, it can give this figure extended life.
The pointer finger on my mp Soundwave ko fell right out when I tried to make it point to the eject button. I'm probably going to use a small drill bit and pin it myself with a small nail.
Personally, hands down StarToys DESTROYS KFCs and DX9s. I was partial to DX9s, love his Plane mode, even if not accurate. Yeah, he lacks paint, but if all you are concerned with is PAINT, then you are missing out. Nothing is perfect. Not even FANSTOYS there, although they are good to excellent, except when that BLASTED PAINT chips. Eye Roll. This 'Bot is AWESOME and until something better comes along, this one has SET the BAR HIGH. Perhaps a Painted version next?
This is a nice looking figure. Looks solid and both modes looks pretty good. Every figure doesn't need paint in my opinion. Hey, it's the best Blitzwing available. Maybe Fanstoys will release theirs by 2025. Mine is on the way!
Never been a Toon Collector, MP started with a Purpose and that evolved to this, Im glad many are seeing Too Toon is a bit Gloom...On this figure for the price, its Great. All 3 modes look good, Transformation is good, and materials are good, hard to go wrong here. If this was Hasbro, most if not all of us would be praising and saying if Hasbro can do this for $120, imagine what they can do for $180...Honestly if we want FTs Finish, we will have to pay FTs Prices too, ofcourse for $220 most of us would say its too expensive.
I agree. Fans Toys was much more palatable when their larger releases were in the $150 to $175 range. $300 for the Dinobot re-releases, $250 for Sovereign, $150 for car bots? It's just gotten out of hand. The paint isn't any better than it's ever been nor has the engineering improved. They are the top of the mark overall, but I can't justify that expense for any of their figures at this point.
Good fair review. He doesn’t look overly complicated which I feel a lot of MP figures are doing because they are MP. I am excited to get a MP Blitzwing. For the price I cant complain about lack of paint. I am glad to see that there aren’t parts rubbing past each other and flexing to move parts around. I love how the canopy, turret and thrusters all hide away in Tank mode. Landing gear isn’t super complex like the DS Starscream. I know Tigertracks is your measurement, but I was disappointed you didn’t show it next to Astrotrain. I know you have that figure. To be fair just a comparison of them in robot mode would have sufficed, but a comparison in all 3 modes would have been great, but thats asking quite a bit as you have to transform 2 triple changers to do so. I kind of feel like FT might be slightly better but for double the cost and maybe way more complex and frustrating might make this guy the definitive choice. Gotta say the $120 price tag is very appealing. I hope you are able to do a versus with XTB and DX9 as a triple takeover versus review??😊 Looking forward to that!
I bought this guy and I'm content with him. He certainly is a bargain for $120 shipped. What I'd like to see is a reissue that's fully painted. Not holding my breath on that happening but the only thing this bot needs to really stand out from the other options available. I've been checking prices. Ditka and Gewalt have dropped in price to about the same as Commander/Lightning. If you've put off buying a MP Blitzwing all 3 options are currnetly as cheap as they're ever going to be. Around $120 shipped for any of the 3 that speaks to you.
I was expecting you to bash the bagebees out of this, but happy to see you gave it a decent review. I have the same concerns about my copy dealing with paint, not so much sculpt, but I dislike the single crotch skirt. This figure could have easily went from good to totally awesome, with paint and a 3 peice crotch. And spectacular with a little more line work. All in all, I give this a 9 out of 10, because the price suits what we got.
I think he looks good overall. The purple seems off to me though. I like the shade of purple on other ones I have seen. I think it could use more to spruce it up a bit but again, overall it looks good.
During the early era of 3rd party, these companies took chances on design, sculpt and detail. You look at the DX9 Blitzwing it has a presence on the shelf that this triple changer means business. This is what I loved about 3rd party & early Takara, it had a medium between toy deco and character design. Now it’s just basic B*toon, what happened 3rd party? Your balls drop off?
i fkn love this figure, basic as he is, the more i mess with it the less likely i think im gonna replace it, if i do its gonna have to be a substantially better piece. just needs decals cough cough, lookn at you toyhax
I know some hate them but I'm thinking Toy Hax will give us a great set for this. Personally I'm happy with him, jusy wish the head was a little smaller.
I wonder, is there a cover for the front of the tank mode that anyone makes to complete the tank look? I got one off ebay for my legacy version, but looking to move onto this one soon.
I can understand why people want to see parts of figures painted. However, I'd also say people have over-hyped paint as a necessity. This Commander figure is an example of one that doesn't need paint. You may want it to have paint, but a personal preference doesn't warrant an across-the-board "need". And as someone previously commented, areas free of paint are also free of potential scratches, chips, etc. I also want to point out that adding molded detail where there wasn't any in the original design is a slippery slope-- what one person thinks looks good, may be a complete miss to many others. Detail just for the sake of detail rarely works for me. I just got this figure in hand today, and considering the appearance, articulation, materials, engineering, transformation, stability and overall feel, it is insane that this (especially being a triple changer) only cost me $140. This in every way is a quality masterpiece level figure. Imo Commander makes the previous attempts by other companies look silly.
@topbackpodcast2615 how do you make such a huge block blaster complicated? Lol. It's like a bunch of rectangles and squares in the FT version. That's crazy that they could figure out how to make that overly complicated.
Again like always agree 100% 👍 I wouldn't say the transformation is simple for the first few times but sure it is smooth. The tabs does stick our because the look is so clean in general.
This is a figure where I really wish someone would do a takara MP 1.0 style that sacrifices toon and toy accuracy in favor of real world believability. I want that jet to look like a real jet, without the blocky remnants of a triple changer.
My DX9 isn't going anywhere, it would be a placeholder only. It looks good for what it's trying to achieve, but is way too plain for my tastes. Kinda getting worn down by the hyper toon push now, takes a lot of the excitement out of collecting.
Great review, I think both fair and objective especially considering the "soulless" comment the other day. This MP is not very photogenic, probably cause the lack of paint, and had me somewhat apprehensive but I think it's a excellent piece. Not perfect, but wins a spot on my shelf, we'll see what happens when the FT comes out.
Thanks for explaining the heels, I had no idea how to fold them out. I think it is comical they thought that small hinge for the ab-crunch was enough. I expected the lesson was learnt from the other two Blitzwings about putting so much weight on top; at least this one can stand on his own.
I’ve seen a lot of QC issues with this figure. The one I received is missing a pin that attaches his knee to his lower leg. It was pretty disappointing when it came apart on my hands as I was going to transform him. Now I wait and see what ShowZ says. He also had a scratch on his chest but I didn’t sweat that too much.
Engineering and sculpt-wise this guy has a lot in common with Fanstoys Thomas. We know FT burnt the relationship with the designer of Thomas which is why we saw KOs come out, so it makes me wonder if that designer was the TE/DS designer and also the designer for Star Toys. TE/DS shut down less than a year ago and this toy came to market pretty quickly and with a level of refinement that indicates that the team that did it isn't new to the game.
I think we need to have the discussion about price vs masterpiece. I think what deformation space/star toys etc is dangerous for those of us who want a premium masterpiece because so much of the community is fine with this el cheapo option and the company is great at making MP- figures (this/blaster)
I have both blitzwing from star toys and KFC and KFC is by far the worst. It can't stand up because it is too bad. Heavy the tolerances and the joint are just disgusting star toys. Blitzwing is by far superior
We in there like swimwear 👙really could’ve used a finish but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like this gloss look more than that garbage paint they have on their blaster and seekers 😂and yeah those outward ratchets look a bit obtrusive as the kids say. Wonder if part of them going no full paint was the flack they got for scuffing on the rest of their recent releases or if was just to save money
i really hate that the seekers have no gloss on them, this glossy plastic, such a shame that they dont bother doing what NewAge does, they could release the matte for the toon freaks, gloss version, G1 toy deco version, maybe metallic and the transparent versions too
I love the design. But I definitely need a little bit of sculpting on the pelvis and the lower legs. The way it is looks cheap. And what the figure sorely needs is PAINT. Please release a painted version someday, Startoys.
Objectively, you gotta say it’s a very good figure, easily the best blitzwing released as of now, but imo it’s so boring. I do like a more toonish look, but this has gone too far I reckon.
I think it's the best Blitzwing but that doesn't necessarily make it good by default. This team have cranked out some amazing bots in the last few years and this was a weaker one. The arm transformation going into jet mode gave me DS Starscream flashbacks and that's never good.
Send that shit to me then I had cancel my pre order… damn kids .. just gotta go to summer camp can’t just stay home n take care of themselves like normal 8 yr olds 😂😂😂
It still amazes me how this random company came out with renders and final product all in a year since it was anounced mean while we got nothing from vector labs devi lol what ever to that massive ass metroplex or fort max that was coming out to.
Man… I would love a mp scale Blitzwing, but yeesh none of them looks good imo or look like a pain to transform. Honestly I feel like the $50 Legacy Blitzwing is the best Blitzwing figure.
While I agree about the criticism of lack of paint and ther is no way I'm getting this figure because It just doesn't present the way I want, it is $100 USD cheaper than the typical MP of similare size... It's cheap. AND... FT is dragging their feet getting theirs out which might not be all that much better in the end... But... again$100 worth of paint cheaper
I'd be okay with the lack of paint if there was more sculpted detail. Habro's newest version does a better job of than this in that department. lol... "A Rectangle with a turd on top!"
Lol Bobby sounds personally insulted about the lack of paint and sculpt. ....TBH I feel the same. I have this and think it's a 'good' Blitzwing. If they would have added some paint and ANY fk'ing sculpt whatsoever it would have sent it into top tier. Disappointed a bit.
I got mine today and the QC is terrible. Scuffing, paint flaw right on the yellow of his forehead, and it looks like industrial solvent got on it and then someone left fingerprints in the solvent. Simply awful. Utter disappointment
Personally, I think it actually looks better without paint. It doesn't make me terrified to touch it like a lot of MP style figures. Plus, simplicity fits for G1

yeah this figure isnt for me, Gewalt is perfect, super fun to transform and looks vastly more interesting and imposing

Objectively, you gotta say it’s a very good figure, easily the best blitzwing released as of now, but imo it’s so boring. I do like a more toonish look, but this has gone too far I reckon.
Can anyone tell me if this figure is painted?
😆
Oh snap! You still make videos! Welcome back!
I never stopped
😮
That female was ready to receive 13:11
I think it's the best Blitzwing but that doesn't necessarily make it good by default. This team have cranked out some amazing bots in the last few years and this was a weaker one. The arm transformation going into jet mode gave me DS Starscream flashbacks and that's never good.
Send that shit to me then I had cancel my pre order… damn kids .. just gotta go to summer camp can’t just stay home n take care of themselves like normal 8 yr olds 😂😂😂
We're gonna need rehab from flippin all these flaps!
Good grief, people tried saying this is better than DX9... ain't no way.
And yet it is
:D all i see is knocked knees lol something looks really goofy proportion wise to me
It still amazes me how this random company came out with renders and final product all in a year since it was anounced mean while we got nothing from vector labs devi lol what ever to that massive ass metroplex or fort max that was coming out to.
Maybe Toyhax can bring us something to help redeem it.
You people and your paint..i dont like your review..figure is great.
Crotch thrust..
I got mine today and the QC is terrible. Scuffing, paint flaw right on the yellow of his forehead, and it looks like industrial solvent got on it and then someone left fingerprints in the solvent. Simply awful. Utter disappointment
Send it back, call the customer service place wherever you got it from
Gewalt is better than this guy.
