  • The White House is poised to unveil a sweeping decision on China tariffs as soon as next week, one that’s expected to focus on key strategic sectors with new levies, people familiar with the matter said. Chinese electric vehicles, batteries and solar cells are among the sectors that would be targeted. Josh Wingrove reports on Bloomberg Television.

Well what about China? They banned this website TH-cam in their country and also google and Facebook it is only fair if China bans US companies that the US does the same no? The thing is that the USA has more consumption than production and China has more production then consumption so both countries fit together perfectly but even with disagreements over trade and tariffs its just normal business the USA and Japan had tariffs also 1960s and to today the USA has a limit of Japanese motorcycle imports to protect Harley Davidson but its how it works even between allies trade wars are just part of business it does not mean countries are enemies just part of business.

I don't understand the tariffs on EVs. As far as I know, Americans can't even currently buy Chinese EVs. That would mean there are tariffs being imposed on products we can't even buy, which is utter nonsense.

@@MBarberfan4life They have to assemble the cars inside the USA in order to qualify for the Government credit for car buyers, but there are Chinese cars like Volvo assembled in the USA. Let the Americans buy expensive products and let the rest of the world enjoys cheap chinese products.

China was smart in investing in EVs battery technology, and EV charging infrastructure early on. Of course China will subsidize its industries. The same way Trump imposes protectionist tariffs and Biden imposes semiconductor technology export restrictions and battery import restrictions. The only difference is when China or any Asian nation leads, the elitist white Anglo centric Washington DC politicians love to act xenophobic. That is short term thinking and will not save them. The U.S, Japan, Germany are stuck in a gasoline internal combustion engine economy that will take decades to overcome and convert to an EV system.
