Wow! Thanks for that. I like to meet with interesting people and talk about language and culture. I'm glad that there are people like you that are hungry for it. Mahalo.
Yo, can’t wait till I get some free time on my hands to watch this. Ever since you started dropping the short clips I’ve been keeping my eye on the channel, cos I knew cool stuff was coming. Last week we got the interview with Dr. Keao NeSmith and now this! Not only a source of learning for Polynesians, but also us non-Polynesians with respect and love for Pacific cultures. Mahalo, e ke kumu! E nana auane’i au i keia wikio. Nui no na ha’awina ma kau mau hana. Mahalo nui. Ma’uru-uru!
E hoi mai no! Please make time for it! This is only part 1 and the second part has even more interesting topics and you'll get to hear Noah speak Hawaiian too! Mahalo nui ia oe.
Mahalo nui for sharing! The re'o/olelo at the end was really awesome. Makes me imagine how interactions might've been when Polynesians interacted with one another :)
That was one of my favorite parts. That would've been amazing to see the kupuna interact. Generations ago the languages probably had more in common I would imagine.

In the cooks we eat poke, which is what tahitians call po'e. It prob similar to kulolo. You need to find some tongans on the island, theyll have plenty of manioke/ cassava.😅
Rapanui language sounds like most of the dialects in the cooks and tuamotus/Havaiki. Reo means language and arero means tongue. Vananga can also mean the same thing. Metua tane for father. Papaha for foreigner Maniota for cassava Akangaru Aka'onu or akahonu Ava for channel or river That convo at the end I understood both💯 this must have been the interaction between Tupaia and the maoris. Love it.
Also forgot to add. In Tonga we call Cassava Manioke. If you ever want to find it in Hawaii, just come find some Tongans , you're always welcome our Rapa Nui brother 😂 🙌🏽
@@kaalala Yup we'll say cassava when we speak English but in Tongan we say Manioke. Once again thank you so much for the gems you're putting out. Stoked to see this channel and your audience grow

I know the Brazilian/Portuguese word - mandioca for manioca (sp?), and cassava for Filipinos and Mexicans call it yucca. Tapioca is made out of that root but just the starchy part whereas the flour is made out of the whole root. Also, I'm a DNA match to Noah. hahaha
