The England teams of the 1990 world cup and 1996 Euro was more attacking than this one. Southgate is a nice human being but he is not a winner. His team was mostly atrocious in the entire tournament except for 45 minutes against the Dutch. Spain should have won the final, 4:1 - that 2nd half was utter domination. Southgate should have benched Kane and started with Watkins and Palmer. The problem was Southgate's lack of winning mentality - not his fault but those who stuck with him for so long. Southgate should have benched Kane and started with Watkins and Palmer.
The problem was Southgate's lack of winning mentality - not his fault but those who stuck with him for so long.

Southgate has been good for England bringing a team together, but he's taken them as far as he can (probably should have gone after last euros). You need someone who has the balls to play a system that works and strong enough to leave out players who don't work in that the system. Kane should have been dropped games ago. We also need to find a 6 and a keeper. Rice got found out tonight there and Pickford spect the whole game giving the ball back to the opposition.

I am from Colombia and in this sense we identify with the English, we have often had a very good team but we have never been able to win the Copa América, yesterday we lost the final against Argentina, 😭 while England has not been able to win the Euro either, despite being a power in football.
I'm Swiss and a big Liverpool fan, which is why I know the English players very well. Southgate is an absolute joke, with him as the Swiss coach we wouldn't be at any final tournaments 🤐 I really feel sorry for you English people. England has great individual players and on the paper should had played much better maybe even win the tournament but the mental aspect should never be underestimated. It’s almost a disadvantage when you have a team with lots of top players because they know the country has high expectations for them. I don’t know their team manager but perhaps a motivator would be great for England to manage at the next tournament. Someone that can motivate and push you to the limits

Gareth has done brilliantly in bringing players that play as a team, wonderful harmony on the team and everyone is together. But they are lacking a play style that will win all games against all teams. Spain have that identity that has worked against all teams, Germany and France had their identity and it just wasn't enough.
England exceeded expectations with the way they played, and sadly it required a hell of a lot of luck. Everything needs to stay the same apart from the play style, and that might mean it's time for Gareth to step aside (if the England team can keep that togetherness)

Southgate's timid tactics and inability to bench players not performing failed England. Cole Palmer was a revelation in every performance. Gordon couldn't even sniff gametime while Foden didn't perform well at all.

Do not doubt for a moment that the Spanish national team has received criticism from journalists in my country (Spain), for not adding this or that player (here it is said that we are 40 million coaches), but the important thing, and I agree with you, is that behind all that tidal wave of doubts there has been a clear and defined system of play, which has come mainly from the coach, fitting (almost) perfectly the players in that system.
This makes me think that, perhaps, the main architect of everything working so well has been Luis de la Fuente (the coach).
