Oh that red, red, Jasper of the Yellowstone River... And the Agate, and the Petriied Wood and the...... What fun!, Plus you have all the toys to enhance their beauty!
Lots of different beautiful stones , rocks and petrified wood and the best seat in the house Looking over your shoulder thanks for a fantastic start to my week 😊
Great finds guys. The agates are great, but my favorites always seem to be the jasper and petrified wood. Especially the wood that looks like driftwood.
Katy, you and Jim seem like such lovely people and I love your adventures and all the gorgeous rocks you find. Thank you so much for taking us along !!!
What a great boat hunt! Love the bot agates, those seem kinda rare for your area! Some great agatized wood out there. 😍 the big moss agate! is a real nice piece, good thing Jim parked the boat right by it! 🎉
I love the sound of the petrified wood!! I wonder if you could make wind chimes out of them and hang that in the sun hhhmmm maybe a little idea for the next makers challenge 😁
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: Today's finds are stunning! I loved the scenery in the panoramic shots. Thank you for the adventure!
Just a pure guess on the larger agates, since they are larger and the flooding was a little more subdued this year, not as many may have been swept up into the shallower areas?
Thanks so very much for all the close ups of the rocks & for your identification too. I still need “hands on” help to ID rocks & your videos are the best.
😃 Beautiful finds! Love those spotted rocks! It'd be nice to meet ya'll if I (ever) get back out to Montana! I'm in Mississippi. Thanks for takin' us along.
Hi Kate I'm happy to see your Chanel has grown-up. Lol. I have lost track of you for few years. And there you were tonight. Lol. I started watching you at your very beginning. Congratulations on your achievement!!
👋 what a boat ride, motor just sped along. Get there🤗🥰🥰🥰💥💫💫💫💫 BIG AGATE WISH RIGHT AWAY WE GOT TO 👀 IT SLABBED. Tricky splicing TH-cam 📹 scenes. 😂❤ WISH I COULD 👀 JIM'S LITTLE SPOTTED JASPER tumbled. NICE 🏞 LONG 📹 to 👀 SO MANY BEAUTIFUL 😍 ROCKS. THANK U❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh Kate, please tell me you kept those stromatolites!?! They were so gorgeous! I will buy them both from you!?! I know you said I collect them, so you better have! The were sooo cool! Those ones on the Yellowstone, are almost as cool as my Las Vegas desert ones! As for your other finds, they were alright! Lol I'm just kidding! They were pretty awesome since your agates were kind of sparse. You made up for it in different, really cool rocks! And those are just as cool if not better in my opinion. Man they were awesome! And so was the video! Thanks Kate and Jim!
By the looks of it you are in the same spots we hunted on Sundays around Miles City. My dad had a small lapidary shop and made rings, necklaces, etc from the agates.
Kate, I find stone similar to the red conglomerate at 12:20 here in Juneau Alaska. I see a commercial stone from Scotland called Dumfries Red Conglomerate. Interesting piece.
I have not - but I think the source is what is now Yellowstone Park. The rocks were formed over the centuries when a line of volcanoes on the east side of the park erupted over and over again. The Yellowstone River has changed course many times over millions of years, leaving rocks as far away as 30 miles from the current location. In some places, the gravel is at least 100 feet deep (my memory says much deeper, like a mile, but I couldn't find the reference, so I'm going with the shallower one.) Following tributaries would be promising, though - I'll have to find some to search. Thanks!
Hi, I have been finding a bunch of these rocks that I think are petrified wood. Would you happen to know of a good place to get them identified? Or would you know of ways to test them from home?
Last week I was in CO but no chance to go rockhounding as such. Did check out hotel front area where there were stones. Have to see if I picked right. Need to do some cleaning, perhaps CLR. Then at next R&G meeting, see if one of the members who oversees the lapidary workshop will make some cuts on the 4 rocks/stones I picked up, since I haven't been able to drive for the past 12+ years, due to a neurological muscle/tendon/nerve problem affecting my right ankle/foot. No physical pain, but NO mobility either, as if my ankle was "locked" in a vise, permanetly. A couple of friends who live within several miles of me pick me up so I can attend club meetings. Glenn lives about 4 towns away, when he goes, he picks up another friend, Mack who lives in the next town to me, then they pick me up. When Glenn isn't going, Mack picks me up. This club is about 40 miles one way; the other R&G club where we're members is about 10 miles from me. A 3rd club I'm a member of, is one I joined in 1977, this is the fartherest away, 50 miles one way. I used to drive friends who lived several miles from me to the club meetings & home again. Over the past year they developed health problems and no longer attend. Thank goodness for the internet & newsletters online. With the last club mentioned, over many, many years, the club went on bus trips to: Smithsonian (2x); NY Natural History Museum (2x); Harvard Natural History Museums (5x's): Hall of Gems & Minerals, and the Glass Flower Museum (the only place one can see this which dates back to the 1880's, I think); & other museums/& universities in New England with excellent gem/mineral exhibits.
Honest question- what’s the fascination with agates? A lot of TH-cam channels focus on agates and I wondered what set them apart from all the other cool rocks you find out there? Are you a reseller of agates?
Hmm, that’s an interesting question. Agates are more rare, for sure - and also tend to be harder, qualifying as a semi-precious gemstone. Because they are more rare, there are people who collect agate specimens. Additionally, agates can make stunning cabochons for jewelry. I personally think other rocks, like Jasper, can be even more beautiful - but it’s still a thrill to find a good agate.
Jim is such a good sport. I love how much he has gotten into the rocks.
Me too!
Oh that red, red, Jasper of the Yellowstone River... And the Agate, and the Petriied Wood and the...... What fun!, Plus you have all the toys to enhance their beauty!
Janette, I feel very lucky. :)
That big chunk jasper reminded me of a Navajo blanket! I love it
Nice! Also, HI GRACE!
Those are all beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
Gods.creations..beyond. Beautiful
Yes they are. :)
All of y'all's finds were beautiful. I loved Jim's find with all the botryoidal bubbles.
Me too! I think it's my favorite.
Lots of different beautiful stones , rocks and petrified wood and the best seat in the house
Looking over your shoulder thanks for a fantastic start to my week 😊
Thank you so much, Fiona.
Great finds guys. The agates are great, but my favorites always seem to be the jasper and petrified wood. Especially the wood that looks like driftwood.
I agree. It's always exciting to find a big agate, but it's so much easier to see the beauty in jasper and wood.
Katy, you and Jim seem like such lovely people and I love your adventures and all the gorgeous rocks you find. Thank you so much for taking us along !!!
Thank you so much for joining us!
Nice agate Jim!
:D
Yeah Kate! That's a big agate!
I was so surprised!
Oh I like the jasper at 2:45!
Me too!
Sweet Kate and Jim!!!
You always seem like you're having such a good time! That jasper is so beautiful, I might like it more than agates!!
We DO have a good time - and I love the jasper too. Thanks for coming along!

Nice hunt. Hot! The rocks dried SO fast….whew. Thanks.
Thanks, Kristi! I must say, it has been pretty darned hot.
Just a pure guess on the larger agates, since they are larger and the flooding was a little more subdued this year, not as many may have been swept up into the shallower areas?
It sure is possible! I learn more every year.
11.14 that must be a Dalmatian Agate so cool can't wait to see some of the slabs!!!😮
Yep, there's some beautiful stuff there!
Thanks so very much for all the close ups of the rocks & for your identification too. I still need “hands on” help to ID rocks & your videos are the best.
I"m so glad you find them useful!

Wow i love them all, even the agate agates! Thank you. Someday someone needs to explain the difference between a TSA and a Montana agate.
Noted, Jennifer - I'll try to explain the next time I find one.
That black one looks like obsidian!
Treasures everywhere in there ❤❤im so jelous😶🤣👋🇫🇮
Thanks for coming along!
Katy, I'm starting to think the pretty rocks find you. LOL 😅
I have to say, a big part of it is being on the Yellowstone. :)

:D I kept the second one, not the first. Why, I can't tell you. You know that I love ALL the beautiful rocks of the Yellowstone!
@@KatyDidRocks I know you do! But I would like to buy that one from you! You know I do!
Good sir!
:)
By the looks of it you are in the same spots we hunted on Sundays around Miles City. My dad had a small lapidary shop and made rings, necklaces, etc from the agates.
How lovely! We were actually on the river near Forsyth - but gravel is gravel, and all is good!
@@KatyDidRocks rock on
I saw the picture of the agate and my brain said "chunky chunky chunky" 😂
Ha! The return of The Chunky Song!
Kate, I find stone similar to the red conglomerate at 12:20 here in Juneau Alaska. I see a commercial stone from Scotland called Dumfries Red Conglomerate. Interesting piece.
Very interesting! Thanks for the ID. :)
Have you given any video of following the Yellowstone up its tributaries to find the source(s) of your jasper, agatized wood, etc.?😊
I have not - but I think the source is what is now Yellowstone Park. The rocks were formed over the centuries when a line of volcanoes on the east side of the park erupted over and over again. The big 1 at 3:08 is a Leverite 😊
LOL. :D I actually wondered if it was a really weathered fossil.

Do you use plain water to rinse them?
Yep!
Found Green Rok and Red Rok, not knowing what they are red. One looks red like coral
They sound great!
