I was in Tokyo Hilton Akasaka in early 80's when I first been requested her versions of standards. Even the jazz quartet I was with were all curious as much as I did as I do not know her adding that she is a japanese. The 80's was still a struggle for japanese singers for the right intonation, pronounciation and tone for I have heard jap singers sang english songs that I even buried my face in my palm each time I heard them sing foreign songs. The only jap singer that I really did admired and must say my favorite is Momoe. Her tongue did the work that was pleasant to listen but when I heard Kei, altho it wasn't perfect but she immediately caught my buds. The way she caressed and touch each notes and phrasing of the song, I became a fan. I can't believed that t'was 3 decades already
