I remember listening to GTFO for the first time and was over the moon, thinking 'How lucky are we, to be in 2018 and still have Mariah Carey releasing music? esp ones as good as this? and That whisper tone, God she is the only one on this earth who could produce that special ethereal sound, that classic MC whisper tone -- absolutely NOBODY could whisper sing and sound like her! She sounds Soft yet resound, sweet yet very very emotive. Those low harmonies slay the living daylights out of everyone (put your earphones on!) The songwriting is flawless, the Porter Robinson sampling is genius! GTFO as a track is a gem, it's atmospheric and whilst truly sassy and fun, still clearly sounding out her hurt and vulnerability and that's why I love it, it's a send off/heartache R&B track packed in one. Sometimes in the healing process of getting hurt by someone you love, you dwell on the hurt they caused you for a bit, so that you'd be able to laugh as you do what's good for you - telling em to GTFO!

Yeee I’m into it. Making music isn’t always about how high you can sing and how many riffs you can do... we know she got that down and invented it. Sometimes it’s about how dope the vibes are, catchy melodies, and a great hook. That said, I totally support this new direction for Mariah. She’s able to use her voice in a more modern way without having to have the pressure of singing like she did 20 years ago. We already know she can sing! Her voice in her early years is timeless and the best we’ve ever heard. She set the path for all the rest of us to learn how to sing for REAL. But music is way different today. A smart artist always gotta ride the wave and a GREAT artist gotta pull it off. And IMO she did and she looks fire while doing it. Props MIMI. Can’t wait to hear the new sounds.

When I first heard this song, I instantly liked it. The tune was mesmerizing and it seemed to beckon me to keep listening. After more scrutiny of the song, I was totally captivated by it. When you really pay attention to the lyrics and hear the emotion in Mariah's voice, especially in the latter part of the song, it's obvious that the origin of this song is rooted in a deep hurt. I know she's downplayed the song as not being that serious but I don't buy it.
If you're somewhat keen, you can clearly hear the pain from her heart expressed in the song. Near the end when she tells the guy to go stay at his friend's house or with his homie, the emotion she projects is anything but light hearted. It's an expression of being completely forsaken and betrayed by someone she cared for deeply. She's so profoundly wounded and broken inside that she has no ability to even lash out at him in anger. She just surrenders to the crushing of his betrayal and wants him to go away. She's so deeply distressed by whatever he's done and resigned to the fact that the relationship is irredeemable.
To the contrary of what Mariah has said of this song being light hearted, I see and hear something totally different. The song gives the listener a glimpse into Mariah's heart and I think it makes her feel a bit exposed and vulnerable. I really think the song is brilliantly written and performed and I think Mariah's talent is completely under credited and underrated. Mariah bares her heart in this song but crafts a unique mask to cover it. Sadly, I think most people will only see the mask.

Mariah Carey reinvents herself? Really? I love alot of Mariah's songs but after her "Visions of Love" album, she stopped reinventing herself & anything about herself, her look, her image & definitely any of her music. Mariah stopped being a "good girl" with curly hair who just sang, to a diva that straightened & dyed her hair blond & loved showing the entire world her boobs while she forgot how to walk correct cause she was tip-toeing around wearing stilettos. I'm actually kinda fascinated by her blond slutty Betty Boop transformation but that was the last & only reinvention of Mariah Carey's career, in my opinion.
