After this... I'll go paint and improve my art. 'cuz this made me think about me when I was 7, then 15 and listen from my mom "You can be an artist but you gonna die without food and money." Well, I guess it's time for me to follow my heart, even if I'm 29 today. Thanks
It's used in many ways and the word changed a lot since its creation, the way Thurman and many others use it is a different value system compared to art. It aims to improve, idealize, and say objective truths about reality, while art in the contemporary sense is something that should stay grounded in reality, say a message without emotional attachments to the viewer, and value said message more than any technical execution. I definitely value art in this sense more than Thurman and I'm less dismissive about it, but personally for me kitsch is something I aim for and see as more valuable for its virtues. Also kitsch can affect anything like art. You can talk about any medium of expression, including paintings.
I think there is some sort of subconscious evolution and unhealthy evolution, we need to be able to differentiate between entertainment, fantasy, and healthy life lessons. We can take the good morals from Disney, yet it is unhealthy to view as real world expectation.
Just because it’s better doesn’t make an unhealthy expectation. The point is to portray something better than reality so that you have an example to follow.

I looked up kitsch. Pretty sure your definition is different than those I found. First, are you talking about paintings?
