great video. lots of fantastic information. thanks for doing these videos.
your welcome. thanks for the kind words.
perfectionists make perfect albums. that's it.
Thank you for this! Random Access Memories is arguably the greatest engineered record in history
agreed.
Its very good but listen to some Steely Dan.
My pick for best engineered song is the 2013 remaster of Hotel California.
To me Discovery is the greatest dance album of all time but Random Access Memories is the most important dance record of our generation because it came during a time where EDM was booming by young laptop producers. This album was a reflection and homage to where dance records all started and they knocked it out of the park I felt like I time travelled to a time where my parents just met each other.
The kick in "Contact" is one the best sounding kicks I've heard.
one of the greatest ears in the industry thanks to his natural high pass filters
just awesome! "how long, all summer"... no one ever said hurry up... most meticulous... lots of editing, feeding files back and forth... frequency analysis between reel changes w/ techs... playback vocals in a chamber... no recalls... have fun, experiment & make magic.
The mind-blowing part is the number of reel to reel tape used during those sessions!! probably a world record!!
@@PuremixAudioTutorials do you have an approximate?
@@KevinSimpson031 around 11 mins till the end
Awesome video, so insightful! On here after reading the news about Daft Punk breaking up. These legends will be greatly missed.
Thank you for the kind words! it's a pretty rare insights on the robots indeed ! glad you enjoy this one
RAM, is one of the best mixed albums of the decade
Really cool to hear Mick digging into this one. Love the sound of that record and he always does great work.
Some of his mixes that don't get mentioned much, are the mixes he did on the first Jodeci album. I love the way he used reverb all over the ballads, Stay, Come and Talk to Me, Forever My Lady etc. Timeless records.
Great video and thanks for your efforts
Thank you for the kind words ! We love Mick he's such a legend
My favorite mix that Mick Guzauski worked on was Eric Clapton's "Change the World". I love that mix.
When the engineer looks like an engineer. Perf.
Mick was in my father-in-law's graduating class of 1969 at Irondequoit High School in Rochester, NY (I graduated from there in 2003). What a gem. Irondequoit Indians for Life!
The importance of quality tracking... less EQ from the beginning to the end...
exactly
Thank you so much for sharing his experience working on one of the best albums ever! Could you suggest recommend some of Mick's works?
Lose Yourself to Dance” what a piece of work!! thank u Sr.
Great tips, great tech info, great history !!!
Mick Guzauski is the man!!!
“They didn’t want to use any plugins...”
"That's awesome"
thank you
enjoyed this - I wonder if Mick uses the acustica stuff ? I spent a load on that - went crazy thinking i had hit a magic bullet but now im not so sure- really liked this interview - he seems like a nice man
Mick is a legend!! we have a few tutorials with him you can watch the trailers and check the list of plugins he's using
@@PuremixAudioTutorials thanks , i will def watch them - hes obv very good at mixing , lots to learn or at least try too. thanks !
wicked video
How much influence does Daniel Vangarde have on their sound and their success
14:51 what does he mean by 'printing to half inch'
“Printing” = recording, to a 1/2 inch reel to reel tape machine, usually to add compression and “warmth”
Did anybody catch the artists and/or tracks metioned around 3:10? I caught Giorgio but I can't figure the rest out.
The fist one is Rumors, the album from Fleetwood Mac.
Ironically the sound engineering on this interview is terrible.
No more “social interaction”
😳
“No recall”
Bruce Vilanch?
The amount of times this man said um gave me an aneurysm
"ahm"
"and ahmm"
"aaahhh"
"but.... ahhhh"
ahmmm fuck me!
torture
mick is amazing but the album is the worst of the bunch. So unoriginal and nostalgic!
Yes, most songs are very generic and mainstream. No wonder they won those Grammys.
You are cringe
@@RodneyAllanPoe Weh weh cry me a river. There's people out there who can admire the album for what it is, and then there's people like you who have been hating on this album since 2013.
Name a single song on RAM that was "mainstream" for the time except for the obvious lead singles. Even Get Lucky is a timeless bop; the guitar riffs, Pharrel's vocals, the beat change and vocoders around the 3 minute mark; it's a great song albeit overplayed.
Werner's comment reeks of elitism.
@@mikeshinwa3398 That was a shitty comment I made! Not sure when I wrote it, but I now own RAM on CD and it's a damn good album.
Thank you
