If it wasn't for AMF and their infusion of money, Harley may have died in the early 70's.

Very true🤔double edged sword! Like you say AMF re- tooled HD with modern technology BUT they were so bloody greedy they pushed out as many units as possible ( the suits aka bean counters) and Quality/ reliability went out the window or literally poor saps that had to deal with crap and give HD a world wide bad reputation in those 10 years of joint ownership.

Not only did they save them in the 70's they also set them up for their future success by getting them in bed with Porsche, that's who got their engineering straightened out and has been doing their engines ever since, the Evo was developed from a 1976 project called Nova and the V-rod, Twin Cam, and the new Milwaukee 8 are all design work farmed out to Porsche with a few others chiming in like Branch Flowmetrics finalizing the ports and combustion chambers.

I read the H-D story of employee buy back and the York plant was explained. Really good management evolution . Makes the electrical problem look like a nightmare.

The buildings in this video no longer exist. Harley tore the entire place down for one building, sold off some land.

Lacquered over decals. LOL. When Triumph and BMW were still hand pinstriping fenders and tanks. Hand pinstriping.

Shame they missed out the BIGGEST and most important aspect of motorcycle manufacturing. Q U A L I T Y. Funny how they mention it in the film but STILL didn't deliver.

Towards the end of AMF, H-D suffered the typical corporate trickle down effect. As AMF managers went elsewhere or retired, others were being thrown into the H-D division who knew nothing about motorcycle manufacturing.

Why would you say that ? If they were in their 20s to their 40s in 1973, many would still be alive and in their 70s to 90s today.

AMF saved Harley Davidson, if it wasn't for them they'd have been bought by one of the Japanese motorcycle companies and the name would have dissapeared.
