Thank you! The nanoPEB's are nice, but you may also want to check out the TIPI before you decide: th-cam.com/video/5NPYWeCx-lk/w-d-xo.html The TIPI was released about 3 months after this video was made. Just want to make sure you have the latest info. before you decide. I still have both but honestly use the TIPI more frequently.
Absolutely, nothing wrong with that! I still have a PEB, disks and original carts as well. Devices like the nanoPEB and TIPI are great when you don't have dedicated space for the original equipment.
You're most welcome! For complete coverage, be sure to check out the TIPI video too, you may find it interesting as well: th-cam.com/video/5NPYWeCx-lk/w-d-xo.html
hi Joe, I've not tested the serial connection yet. I have all the cables/hardware to do so, but need some time to learn more about the various software applications before releasing a video about it. Once I figure it out, there will be another video much like this one. From what I understand, the nanoPEB only emulated floppies and not hard drives, but I could be mistaking. I just received a 4GB CF card yesterday and will be demonstrating how to format it for the TI soon. Thanks for watching this video, more coming soon!
For some reason mine doesn't have any power adapter. The power cord was just directly hardwired into the nanopeb. It worked but after a while the power cord fell off. Wondering if I could just solder on a barrel jack and it'd work.
Should work fine for you, worst-case just re-solder the power cord that was previously soldered. Just strip the wires back, tin the wires and solder back. Although, a new jack would be a much cleaner idea. Might want to put some heat shrink tubing on the wires as well to keep them from shorting out.
I wonder if there are any upgrades for these old computers that turn them into basically laptops you can carry around. Most of those old 8bit/16bit machines are pretty integrated having both keyboard and the computer itself in the same case so realistically the only things missing are battery to power the thing and the screen with a closing mechanism.
@@WagnersTechTalk Yeah, got Atari Age account, this is one of the largest forums for the old micros. I think the hardest part would be getting a good screen and making a closing mechanism that would fit with the rest of the case. Battery would not be that hard, I think. A couple of li-ion cells and you're set.
The TI can't address that much RAM, there are RAM drives (SAMS), TIPI, etc. Check out this page for TIPI, FinalGrom and Dragon's Lair for some interesting TI stuff: wagnerstechtalk.com/retro-computing/
Wagner's TechTalk ok I pressed function plus sign I’m new to a lot of this. I got my nanoPEB from eBay My ti99/4a recognized it at the startup screen. But other than that I couldn’t do much? I got mine off eBay it’s got a 256 mb card Can you tell me how to load the what is it called the cfmngr program you showed where you look at the disk drives? I really want to use mine to save programs. I’ve been writing programs but I can’t save them my cassette drive isn’t working But I’d love to take it step by step. But like I said haven’t been able to do much yet Do you know if my card would be formatted?
Definitely search the forums at ti99.atariage.com/ and/or post your questions there. You'll get far better responses to your questions there. That's where I got help getting my nanoPEB setup :) Hope this helps!
Just signed up I posted but I think I have to wait I’m really wondering 2 things 1. How do I get to the cfmgr screen you showed when you booted up. My ti99/4a just shows ti basic and extended basic. Although my ti99/4a is recognizing the nanoPEB? I can’t get to the screen you showed 2. How Can I save a program to my nanoPEB. That’s what I really want to do. I’d save a program to one of the virtual floppy drives?
Two months after making this video, a new product was released called the TIPI. It's certainly not cheaper than the nanoPEB but it is also a nice option (I have both). The TIPI is difficult to find, but you may find this option interesting: th-cam.com/video/5NPYWeCx-lk/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic presentation. From the perspective of being uniformed on this you did a great job with explanation and clarity of what is going on.
this is quite a good introduction, i usually do hardware mods for different machines, but i might get one of these just as looks quite handy

I still love the Disk drive and tape! And carts!! Ya old school. but nice!

This is really informative. Thank you!

Very cool!
Great video! Were you able to test the serial connection? Also can this emulate a hard drive or just floppy volumes (or are they the same thing)?

Can you save basic programs to the Grom99 like you can on the NanoPEB virtual drive ?
Not on the FinalGROM99, not that I'm aware of.

I know there were some discussions on this on AtariAge ( ti99.atariage.com) sometime ago. I don't think anything became of it though.

If you wind up building one, I'd definitely like to see it!
@@WagnersTechTalk Probably not my level of experience to make one, but if I do, I will make a video about it on my channel.
Are there ram upgrades bigger than 1 megabyte?

FCN+QUIT at the same time should do it.
