My mates Dad worked at Philips of Falkirk the Volvo dealership as a salesman and would take us to school and would get various Volvos home and remember he had a white 360 GLT hatchback and thought it was one of the smartest cars around, can remember going to school in it and thinking, what a car. still a cool car in my eyes.
I've had two GLTs 3 and 5 door. I really liked them. Supreme comfort, nippy enough in the late 80s early 90s. A bit 'left field' for a young man on my time. Blipping the throttle at the lights had the car rocking side to side 😂
As an Volvo mechanic for 40 years. The Volvo 360 GLT had the same cam as an 760 2 and 2.3l Turbo. That means,no intake overlap. It runs way better with an non turbo cam.
I had a 360gls as a 19 year old then a Renault 5 GT Turbo followed by a 360 glt to hedge my changes of surving an accident. The glt was an ok car in its day and much better than it's English competition.
I had a 340GL for 2yrs in the late 90's, it was comfy and felt well built inside, heated front seats, good space with the back seats down, and RWD for the win😍
I had a few GLT's in 3 and 5 door form. Great cars, comfy, reliable and a real step up from the XR3's i had. I think they had better performance than the XR's and you didnt have to change gear as much as they were so torquey. As for the handling you always knew where you were, they did lean but then you knew you were near to the limit and as for sliding them around roundabouts that was great fun in the wet! You could also leave them anywhere without being stolen. I went on to upgrade to a 740 Wentworth with a 4 + overdrive gearbox, that was fun in the wet too. All the best from Namibia.
My dad had one, brand new on an E plate, towed our huge twin axel caravan all round the UK and Europe, never missed a beat, got a heavier caravan, so upgraded to a 240 2.3 long stroke, pulled like a train 🚆, when Volvo's were decent 👌
I had a white 360 GLT on a B reg three door, I had exchanged my first car which was an Austin Metro City and at 17 years old (50 years old now) it was a big jump up to the 2.0 litre engine but is was a great car, wish I could find it again. I only paid £1100.00 back then.
I had a white one. Fabulous car. Front lip was standard, side body kit wasn’t. At the time they’d keep up with a VW Golf 8v GTi (Mk2) but cost 1/3 the price to insure for an 18 year old!
The two water bottles being so close is common with the 240, on one occasion back in the 1990's a failed water pump bearing left me out of coolant in my 245, at that point it became obvious why they did this, I popped off the hose from the washer bottle and put it into the coolant reservoir, pulled on the windscreen washer and it filled up the coolant bottle a treat, got me home just fine, they think of everything them Swedes ;) ALSO...and perhaps more relevant, the heat from the coolant will help keep the screenwash flowing...like I said, they think of everything...
Had a -85 glt 5 doors and a -90 gle 5 doors. Nice cars but a bit woobly in hard handling in higher speed. Exelent handling otherwice. Good in the winter and on ruff roads in the forrest. Relaxed, practical and comfy cars. 12 years since I had one. Looking for a new.
I prefer the 3 box saloon style, though I dont think that the styling with the aftermarket body kit suits the car particularly well. Loving the 300 series reviews.
I had one 369 GLT Hatchback Like yours a late one with power steering Tried to put a 2.3 engine in it out of a 240 But gave up because injection system was different and complicated It went to scrap 😢
Rare car j bought one 2005 for 70quid new spark plugs it started, didn't really no wot it was I drove a 340 just as a car but the glt one day I floored it turning round slid round and kinder got off tbh I was surprised ran out of fuel left it parked up b4 council took it shame but ad a kid I lost many car's an got anew one bk then wen you could get away with it great video, 👍
The front and rear lip/spoiler are original to GLTs, The side skirts are not, as for rarity (in the UK) a Saloon GLT is the more rare version (they where made for 3 years in this configuration 87-89), followed by a 3 door and the 5 door hatches (83-89), they aren´t the "most powerfull" versión of a 300 tho, outside the UK they where sold in 81 and 82 whit the 2.0 engine and could be optioned whit a "high" RPM camshaft (K cam) whit a pair of Solex ADDHE 40 carburetors that made around 123HP (only a little more than the 115HP of this one, earlier ones made 118 thanks to higher compresion on the earlier engines), on the interior some GLTs (and GLEs) have leather seats from the factory, and the headliner is black on the hatchback GLTs.
I bought this exact car the other week. Thanks for the review made my life 10x easier buying it!
Hello mate, yeah i saw it was for sale! Ive not long bought a 360 gle project! So plenty 300 content on way!
@ will make sure to keep an eye out!

the after market engine bonnet scoops! haha
My very first car was a mint Green 343GL 1.4 and no power steering. It wasn't very realiable tbh but I loved it.
I had a 360 GLE saloon, loved that car even if it was not all that economical, but I loved the sound of the viscous fan on take off! Great review
This car is like perfect
RWD with a hatch !

And play with the whaste gate,,it had +170 hp.
That's strange.. I was a passenger in a 1984 glt injection.. that was very fast and fun. I think that ones lost allot of its horses tbh
I had one 369 GLT
Hatchback
Like yours a late one with power steering
Tried to put a 2.3 engine in it out of a 240

Great car that everyone ripped into me for.

Unfortunatey is a saloon? what? they ere always harder to find i'd of swapped my glt hatch for one of those
The ONLY thing good about a 360 was it had a volvo engine. Period
