That was absoLUTEly lovely.
Splendid Picking and tune!!
Well done, excellent stuff. Lovely melodic clear playing.
Delightful piece of music!!
Great job there buddy! Gonna add your music to my folder and enjoy it whilst I make my life size wooden swords. 😁
Ah lovely cover ❤
Love it and trying to copy it, good man
Thank you for the pleasure of your playing, and also for the cool chord voicings that, if I can figure some of them out, I will steal for my own composing on my octave mandolin!
Lovely
Absolutely class!❤
Just found this song. Your playing in haunting. I would love to have you play a 3 minutes worth of this.
good job!
Super cool. Sounds great 🔥
Great stuff, I was just waiting for you to burst into song then! The First Turn was Daoiri's first album and for me his best. Well done you!
Thank you👍
who else could have figured this out ?/....Great....thanks man.
Brilliant. Could you post a tab or video showing how to do this?
Would you ever do like a walk-through tutorial? Would love to learn this but its so hard!
It's something I'm considering doing!
I just realized recently how the bouzouki - with its percussive rhythmic quality - not only contributed to, but pretty much defined the sound of the 70s folk revival in Ireland, with players like Donal Lunny and Andy irvine and their involvement in bands like Planxty and The Bothy Band. Then I heard Andy mention in an interview that it was Joe Dolan of Sweeney's Men (his former bandmate) who introduced the instrument to the Irish scene! To my understanding Dolan did so after his travels in Eastern Europe, where the bouzouki was a part of THAT tradition. This is all relatively recent history. So I am wondering when the term "Irish Bouzouki" crept into the lexicon? More exactly, is there something that differentiates this instrument from the one that Joe Dolan brought to the Irish scene? Either way I love the instrument and those who have played it in the service of Irish traditional music, and the effect it has had.
The biggest differences between the original Greek bouzouki and the Irish Bouzouki would be the overall shape, and tuning. Greek bouzoukis have a rounded back, whereas Irish ones are always flat backed. Greek bouzoukis utilize octaved tuning (CFAD for four course), whereas the Irish Bouzouki is traditionally tuned GDAD in unison courses. As far as I was able to find, Peter Abnett was responsible for building the first true "Irish" Bouzouki to the specifications requested by Dónal Lunny, and this instance is generally regarded as the separation point between the Greek and Irish varieties!
Superb job , do you think you could do a Pat Rainey as well if possible 👌👌
Thank you! Pat Rainey is a great tune, I'll add it to the list
Great stuff Brent that would be amazing mate
So the intro is great do you have any idea what the chords would be for the verse can work them out cheers Brent if you could
I started tackling Pat Rainey, I'll do a demo/lesson video for it once I've completed doing a lesson video for Creggan White Hare
@@brentmatusik great stuff
Lol so damn good man. What strings and tuning are you using? Been trying to find time to learn my bouzouki. Sounds so crisp!
Thank you!
I use the D'addario J81 Irish Bouzouki set for strings, and I use standard Irish Bouzouki tuning, GDAD (unison)
WOW great I have the same model tuned GDAD - what is yours ? Isn't Matusik a Polish surneme ?
I keep it tuned GDAD also! I think the name Matusik originates from Poland, however, my family is actually from Slovakia
The only grin bigger than yours is mine! Wicked!
Did you do it by ear or find some notation somewhere along the way?
Thank you!
Kind of all of the above...I found a transcription of a recorded version, but quickly realized that Daoiri improvs it differently on every live version I've heard. So I listened for my favourite "licks" and combined them into the version you see here. It's basically a hybrid of 4 different versions I checked out!
Are you doing sweep picking? I think Daoiri is doing strictly alternate picking on this one and you can see that his right hand is just so relaxed. You play very clear, but it sounds stressed and it shows in the tempo. Daoiri plays up a little bit (I think), but you rush the tempo and it shows it's due to tension in your arm. You got this, let your muscle memory work and step back, you know the part well!
My picking is more economy picking as opposed to pure sweep picking. But absolutely, Daoiri favors pure alternate picking, and has that technique absolutely mastered! Very impressive to see!
@@brentmatusik Everytime you use economy is not time you spend teaching your body how to alternate :P
Somebody's always got something to say 🤣🤣
He just plays differently, unique to his own style. Well done, I say.
@@generalstoaschicken People with skill always find something to say cause the more you delve in any talent, the more possibilities it opens and having discussions about it is a good thing.
Are you tuned GDAD?
Yup!
