- So The Sims 4 recently joined the club and released grocery shopping in the game, but does that mean that we can have a grocery store?
I decided that it’s about time I had a grocery store for my sims to go to buy food, but I was left disappointed by the result.
Below are the links of the mods I used for this, however if watched my video you’ll know that the grocery store was not fully functional! That being said, there is a very good chance that it may be that I’m just an idiot and screwed it up somehow! So if you’d like to try it yourself, here are the links below:

Grocery stores in any sims games aren’t stressful enough. I need someone standing for three minutes right in front of what I want to get. I need someone tailing me with their cart. I need someone aggressively waiting for me to move even though it’s been two seconds. Most importantly, I need someone to race me to the shortest checkout aisle. Otherwise it’s just not authentic and miserable enough.

Also toddlers having tantrums and mothers who have had no sleep panicking with embarrassment.

I actually build a supermarket for my sims. It's Simal Supermarket on the Gallery, might update it soon with the new things we got in Cottage Living.
it's tedious yet you can, just like a bakery you would grow produce and also bake goods, then set for sale each item. I did it before when I first got the get to work pack a few years ago.
With Get to Work retail stores you could "almost" make a working grocery store.
When shopping in a store with another household, you can click on an item and buy it,
the profits go to the owner's household and the employees even restock by themselves, occasionally.
You can definitely have a grocery store! You just build it, put it under retail, and put 1 of each item for sale by clicking on the item and selecting place item for sale. The game will automatically refill said item when people buy it. And BAM 😆🥰🎉
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.
I like that I had to as a task in Sims 2. Like food would and could run out and these forced gameplay moments were annoying at the moment, but what made the game challenging. You don’t have to get to a store in Sims 4, you just get charged at the fridge and it never will run out.

Being the ones buy doesn't work as well. However, if you are the grocer, the illusion of it being a real store just works better.
Let's just say I had a blast laughing at the odd bits and bobs the townies would buy of the things I sell that were for sale.
Yes, most of its decorative items are just for show, the fruit, and veggies here.
I laugh every time a message pops up saying a sim has bought an Eww the toilet (some perfume and decor) or other CC bits and bobs with funny names.
You can just make up little stories about why they would buy the times they do.
If you are an adult sim player, it can be even funnier. You see Mortimer come in, and he buys, you know what, cc, being a responsible adult.
But Like you know what he and Bell have planned for later. It really brings some funny side stories off-screen.
Lilith came in and bought some men's cologne; I wonder if that's a gift for Caleb?
I made a massive store that sells more than just food like a little toys and clothes section.
So Izzy came in bought a tiny model car, and I'm like, is it a gift, or do you have a toy car collection?
So don't despair this is not useless you just got to use it differently. ;)
If a mod came out before Get Famous and its never been updated since, it's very unlikely to work anymore especially script mods, because that was when the python update happened that broke all script mods and several tuning mods. Graycurse's mod has also been broken for years as well, as shown by the comments on the mod page. Srslysims cooking overhaul is basically the go to mod for grocery shopping in the sims 4. It is like Graycurse's mod but more updated and with a lot more integrations not only into packs but also into other cooking and harvestable mods in existence. Someone also mentioned trying to sell what is in the game (like harvestables and such) in Get to Work.
The Sims 1 base game does not have any community lots at all.
The Sims 2 base game has community lots, and in the base game, you can make a park, a community center, a public pool, a shopping center that sells games and magazines and food and clothes. With the Open For Business expansion pack, your Sims can buy even more stuff, like furniture or toys or cars or even real estate.
The Sims 3 base game has community lots, and the grocery store is now a rabbithole.
The Sims 4 base game has no grocery stores or supermarkets. However, if you have the City Living expansion pack, then you can already buy produce at the produce stands. So... you can actually buy produce with the City Living expansion pack, Cottage Living expansion pack, and the Get To Work expansion pack.
There are some decent super markets in the gallery. I have a vegan super market in my game and I'm on console. They just put a bunch of produce on those sale stands and Sims come and buy them. As long as it's a retail store it will work.

I think an employee and maybe the more buyable venue mod or the mod that adds more lot types is what you need, but if an employee is at the register, then you should be able to buy the in game foods, I think.

Others have mentioned it already but I have to say please try Srslysim's Cooking Overhaul mod. it's amazing and has very cute maxis match grocery items, you can use a store but it also has a fantastic rabbit hole system
RAVASHEEN has a fantastic mod called Retail Therapy, and you can make a grocery store too, all maxis match. I'd love if you made one for download, cause I'm not a great builder.

You need ravasheen mods. There’s loads of pieces to put together a grocery store on there and they work anywhere, it doesn’t need to be a retail store ☺️
It really concerns me that this game is so fragile that an outdated mod just completely breaks it.
